"What are you doing in here?!" I ask in disbelief.
The Aiden I know would rather die than touch a book on his own accord. Aiden sighs and rolls his eyes. Hey, that's my thing! I'm supposed to do that.
"What does it look like? I'm studying." He replies, like his answer was clear as day.
"Pfft. You, and studying? Dear lord, hell hath frozen over." I gush, pretending to be shocked.
"Look, I have a really important test on monday. So I suggest you leave me alone." Aiden says without a hint of sarcasm.
"But this is my place, I sit here everyday!" I hiss. I want to yell at him, but this is a library after all. Of course Aiden is the one to bring out the worst in me.
"I don't see you're name here, sweetheart." He drawls.
God, this guy...
"Will you stop calling me that?! And can't you sit somewhere else?" I retort. Aiden raises an eyebrow, and waves his hand around the place, and I see what he means. The library is packed, no spot unoccupied.
When did it get so crowded in here?
I exhale a resigned breath, and to sit next to Aiden in the clutter of books.
I ignore his 'taken aback' look as I start reading the book I chose. Its a steamy novella which is like Romeo and Juliet but in the twentieth century.
So now me and Aiden, out of all people, are sitting on the cushion and minding our own businesses, him studying and me reading.
Until he decides to snoop in on what I'm reading.
And to my utter misfortune, I'm on the 'steamy' part of the book.
First the 'dating list', and now this. Heat crawls up my face as he reads the page where 'Romeo' does unspeakable things to 'Juliet'.
In bed.
I close the book with much more force than needed.
"Hey, I wanted to read!" Aiden says, a smirk forming on his face.
"Weren't you studying?!" I snap.
"It can wait."
He tries to reach for the book, but I'm too quick for him. I stow the book away from his reach, resulting in him grabbing air, then causing him to lose balance.
"Hey—!"
Aiden's shout is cut short as he falls on my lap, and several heads turn to look at us, some of which I recognise from school. I thought I couldn't get any redder but here I am, having competition with a beetroot.
"Oh my god, Aiden!" I yelp, and push him off me.
I'm blushing because this is embarrasing, nothing else.
"I told you to give me the book, Ash." Aiden muses.
"I told you to study, Satan."
"I'm done studying though."
"I— forget it."
Arguing with Aiden is a lost cause. He always seems to have a counter arguement to every single sentence I say, and it makes me angrier than ever. I sigh, deciding to change the topic, because this fight is not going to come to an end anywhere before three business days.
"So uh, are you coming to the party?" I ask.
"Which party? I attend loads." He brags, smirking. For the first time, he is not wrong— Cole once told me that Aiden is the life of the party. Apparently he is the 'par' in the 'party'. Cole's words, not mine.
Me? I just sit there akwardly. Besides, I have a bad experience with parties.
Ashley finds herself in a precarious situation with a persistent (and creepy) suitor, desperate for an escape. Thinking on her feet, she grabs the closest person and claims they are dating, only to find out it's her sworn enemy, Aiden.
God, anyone but him.
They've always argued and annoyed each other to no end, but now they need to pretend to be in a relationship in order to drive the creep away.
But as time passes, it becomes increasingly difficult to deny the growing bond between them.
