Unwilling Goddess

Chapter 17

Chapter 17

Jan 20, 2024

Malcolm offered to drive me to the mall; it was a bit weird. Yeah, he's usually quiet, but not around me. I took a deep breath & let the elephant out of the room. "So... you & Demi huh? I mean, I'm not super surprised." He chuckled sheeplishly. "You're... you're not mad about us are you?" I shrugged. "No. I figured it'd happen eventually, if it wasn't happening already." He kind of pat the stearing wheel with a somewhat stressed expression on his face. "R-Right... right." I heard someone clear their throat in the back seat, but Malcolm didn't seem to notice. I glance back in the rear view mirror to see Agape sitting back there, smiling. He gave me the k-pop heart symbol & just sat there. "Luna? Did you hear me?" Malcolm asked. "Um... sorry, what did you say?" he took a deep breath. "Look... I really, really love & care for Demi. She's one of the few people that I feel like I can actually be open with. That pull that people get when they meet you? I get that from her. I want to do nothing more than protect her & hopefully, stay by her side for... well, forever. Plus, you yourself are joy to be around & I'd love to spend more time with you." I gave him a look at that & he panics. "I-I'm not trying to be your dad or anything! W-Well, maybe a little, if we get married-b-b-but that's no where near what I'm thinking about right now, b-but if Demi would want-" "Malcolm. Relax." I can tell that he starts to calm down. "Malcolm, I get it. You both adults & if you two weren't comfortable with each other, you both wouldn't have been all over each other at the house. & if I'm being honest... if I got to pick someone to be my dad, you would be my first choice." I hear him sniffle a little bit. "Oh, but if you both give me a sibling, understand that I'll know the minute its concieved." He goes red & starts coughing. "L-LUNA!" I can't help but laugh. "T-Talk to your mother about that one... good lord. I-It's way to soon for that kind of talk." I glance at Agape, who seems happy.

We get to the mall where, surprisingly, Malcolm also gets out. "You're... also gonna be here?" I ask him. "Huh? Well sort of, but you won't even know it. Just... call or like, telephathy me if you need me ok?" I nodded & once we walk in together, he splits off. "Well! I'd say your talk with him went gre-what?" I huffed as I continued walking towards the food court. "Didn't you say you'd leave? Why are you back?" Agape chuckles, pulling his hair back into a ponytail. "Love, Mother. You're dearly loved & now that you can see me... I get to talk to you again." I sighed as he walked along side me. "Well, if you're going to be here, we can talk more in depth." he nodded. "Of course. Sorry for my vagueness back at your home. Most humans... they don't take this kind of stuff very well. Especially when they raise us. Trust me... I've had some shitty parents during a few Transfers." I felt bad for him, but he keeps a smile. "It's nothing to worry about. Most parents I had were great, but there's always those few... but luckily, society is a lot more accepting now. It might not seem like it but this is crazy progress." I nodded as he noticed a bench. "Care to sit Mother?" I follow him over as he takes a long sigh. "I've missed this. Y'know, we used to sit like this & just watch humans a long time ago. But enough reminicing. I know you have questions." I notice his form switching between his usual self, a woman & another person. "Y-You're-" "Oh, sorry Mother; let me just-" Agape cracks his neck which seems to stablelize him. "Better?" I nodded, but noticed a tuft of ginger hair tucked behind his ear. "Great. So, ask away." I take a minute to think. "Transfer... what... what exactly does that mean?" Agape gives me an odd look. "A kind of reincarnation... but... different. So... we can only get reincarnated by... having our essense go into a baby. & we... change the minds of who we inhabit to be a better fit." I was suddenly very uncomfortable to exist in my body & Agape understood almost immediately. "T-This can be avoided if a goddess gives birth though! I-It's called Second Chance Law!" I didn't even look at him when I found the words to speak.
"So what? If you've Transfered, you just... kill a whole mind that has yet to exist?"
"What? No, it's-what moves is our power."
"But you said-"
"All our magic does is gives them an inherient intrest or connection to whatever our divinity is derived from."
"But-"
"You're Transfered right? But you don't remember your other life. If that old you took you over, wouldn't you already know that?"
I grew silent... he had a point. "It's harmless. For us, we get a new form & new life. As for our human parents? They don't even know. They're happy to have a baby... most are anyway." Agape whispers that last part. "A-Anyway, next question." I take the hint & change the topic. "Do you know what god I am?" he gives a long sigh. "Oh boy, really having me put my age to good use. Ok! So, in the simplest terms. Before everything, there was Nothing. Then, Nothing split itself to made something. It made Mother Light & Mother Dark by splitting memories & thoughts of itself. Light & Dark worked together to make the universe from then on. Mother Light took care of living things, including the planets. When that living thing died, they got to met & help Mother Dark, who would care for their souls. Eventually, their tasks became more complicated than that & they needed help. So more gods were made." I took a moment to process. "So... I'm a god with a seperate purpose?" Agape chuckles. "No. You're Light. You are one of the first gods to exist. You are how life itself started. In fact, from what I've been told, you made every secondary god in existance, including ones to help Dark. So-are you ok?" I was nauseous & dizzy, yet felt calm. Then there was a pulsing in my head that was very rythmic, almost like a heart beat. Agape was looking at me with a wonder in his eyes. "Heh... you're just as beautiful as you were back then Mother." my eyes watered a little bit before I heard a voice. "Luna?" Crow shows up, notices Agape & seems more standoff-ish. "Wait, how're-" "Thanks for the directions miss. 'Preciate it." Agape get's up to leave, patting Crow on the shoulder before vanishing behind him. Crow turns back & kind of stares in Agape's direction, then shakes his head. "Let me guess... another god?" I nodded. "It's ok. He's friendly. Made some things really clear to me... um, anyways, what's up?" Crow sits next to me, nervous. "Did he tell you what he's a god of?" I hesitated. "He... he did. He showed up at the house for Demi & Malcolm... they've been together for about a month now or so... h-he mainly just gave me answers about myself, sort of." he nods, looking a bit more relieved. "So, what did you want to do today?" he gave a nervous chuckle. "Um... I wanted to ask you something." Crow takes a deep breath.
"So um... Prom right? I was wondering-"
"Yes."
"I unders-wait... you'd... you'd actually go with me?"
"Honestly...? I was hoping you'd ask."
"Ugh. I've been freaking out over this for over a month thinking you'd say no!"
"That why you've been so quiet?"
"Um... that & Raven told me to do some big fancy thing for you... but um, so you'll actually go with me?"
"Yes."
"Ok."
Crow lets out a huge sigh. "Ok, great. Great. Now it's just... everything else. I-I promise, I'm gonna make this the best night of your life. You'll see." I give him a smile, but thought back to what Demi & Malcolm said earlier. "T-To be honest... I'm glad you asked me. I... I like you a lot Crow. S-So, I'm glad to be going with you." He goes red for a split second. "Y-Y-Yeah, no, I like you t-" "No. I mean it." he's redder now. "s-s-same... c-Could we talk about that... a little... later?" I gave him a shy nod as he slowly takes my hand not looking at me. "C-Cool."
