The Synchronization Project

E14 - An Open Book (9)

E14 - An Open Book (9)

Jan 20, 2024

"Right. Alix," Naomi commanded, "you got crowd control?"
His serious face nodded in affirmation.
"We'll go labyrinth formation, divide and conquer. Ignore the goons if you can, and try to aim for the boss. 3 roads to success."

After bumping each other's fists, we ran out and a brown path engulfed the pyramid, converting the cobbled floor into 2 storey high walls. We each had a straight shot to the boss, but it wouldn't be that easy, of course. The footsoldiers broke down the walls, climbed them, passed through like ghosts, and while Alix tried to shape the maze around them, some crafty whalfers slipped through and slowed us down.

My heart was racing from all the dodging and blocking. With each new katana I formed, my energy faded more and more. As my seventh one shattered - from the gigantic, energy-fists that one henchman formed - I could feel my arms becoming heavy, and there was still another polxing 150 meters to go.

Suddenly, a wall was shattered when a familliar yellow orb was shot through it. In panic, I formed a long, heavy battle axe and launched it at my foe, while I raced towards my darling. My veins were pure adrenaline. The meaty blow of the axe collided with his thick skull, and his big, blue hands faded, just as I reached my battered woman.

"I'm alright, babe," she painfully coughed out, as she clutched her sides, "but maybe this wasn't the best plan."
"It was our only option," Ryan huffed, after sliding in next to us. Alix crashed into the ground, from a pillar in the sky, and hastily formed a protective base around us.

"We could take them 1:1, but they're moving perfectly to counter us. We underestimated them," said Alix, as he tied back his long hair. "I think that guy up there has a path that let's him command everyone, he can feel the whole battlefield. I... I could try to fight him personally, if you guys can handle these lot?" We could all see his hands tremble as he made the suggestion - his breath shortening, and the colour fading from his cheeks.
"No," I assured him, "we're not there yet. I think I might have one more idea."

I pulled out Riley's page and focused all of my remaining energy into forming the path on my hand. "Ryan, care to let me into your mind?"
"Sure?" he replied, and clapped my hand.
"Set up the radar and run. Faster than you've ever ran before."
"But I won't be able to process all of that, Jan."
"You don't need to, she will!" my Angel exclaimed with an excitement that warmed my soul.
"Ah, this'll be perfect for you, bro: head empty."
"NO THOUGHTS!," he smiled, as determination and lightning filled his body.
