d at a couple who were standing near the wall in the corridor next to another store. Jayden nodded, not knowing what she meant. They were just an ordinary couple of teenagers who were most likely going on a date. A short brunette and an equally short dark-haired man. They didn't stand out in the crowd. "now look at this woman" Clare pointed to the older blonde who was walking quite nervously.
"What do you mean?" the boy hissed. Clare looked at him coldly.
“Night Creature,” she said more quietly, “If you look closely, you can see a slight mist around her,” Clare scratched her cheek, looking at the woman, “Water Mage.” Jayden was trying to see what she was seeing, if she hadn't pointed it out to him, he would never have known. An ordinary person wouldn't be able to see it, but thanks to the transformation, his eyesight became sharper.
“Is this the hallmark of all these waterbenders?”
“Nah, she's just careless and overconfident.”
"What's the deal with these two?" he whispered. Clare moved closer to him, smiling coldly. Her cheek was almost touching his, and she wrapped her hand around his shoulder.
"And those two...they're going to kill her," she said roughly, smiling. Jayden couldn't answer her, he hadn't expected it. He didn't understand how she could smile while saying something like that.
"What are you talking about" he didn't have time to finish his sentence because Clare yanked him towards the store, while they were walking he kept looking at those people, and the couple followed the other woman. They discreetly grabbed her hands and moved on. Nobody paid attention to it. After a while, they were gone, and neither was the woman. Jayden stopped, unable to move any further. It was too much for him. "If they…?" he didn't want to believe her words. How could they kill someone during the day, in a place full of people, and no one noticed "But why?" he whispered, he could barely keep himself from crying, he didn't want this, he wanted to go back to his house and forget about it.
"No idea. You won't understand the Wardens" Clare smiled slightly, not looking at him. She knew the answer to this question perfectly, but she preferred to keep it to herself. At least for now. "Let's go shopping."
“Wardens?” he asked “They're just Police's help…why would they kill them?” he remembered the conversation with Terry. Those Wardens again.
“Long topic. We'll talk about it later"
After purchasing clothes for Jayden, they returned to the Pearl, which was now fuller and the people inside seemed to be regulars. Clare greeted them.
"Clare! You finally got yourself a boyfriend!" one of the men shouted, laughing loudly.
"And what kind of stick insect is that?! So thin!!" added the second one, sitting at the same table. The girl looked at them, giving them a sign that she was not in the mood to joke.
"Shut up or I'll tell Terry you don't like his soup," she said lowly, the men laughed nervously and turned their heads. Everyone else followed suit. Pearl's boss was a dangerous person. At least looking at their reactions, he could guess all of them were afraid of him.
Jayden had trouble believing it. Terry seemed like a person you could trust and would always help you. They approached the bar where a dark-haired young man was sitting. Jayden recognized him - it was the same boy who was at his house with Clare. The red eyes left a lasting impression on him, and the thought of it gave him chills. He kept his eyes on his family all the time, whom he almost killed.
"Jayden, meet Vincent, who will be... a personal trainer" Clare sat down at the bar next to the boy.
"A personal trainer?" Jayden looked at them, not understanding what was going on. Vincent stood up, looking offended.
"Let's go," he said roughly and went first. Clare said something under her breath, and they all followed Vincent to a building near the Pearl, to a small bookstore. It didn't look like a place that had a lot of customers, and the decor left a lot to be desired. Everything was gloomy, although it had its charm if you were a fan of such an atmosphere. Jayden stayed close to Clare.
Vincent walked up to a girl sitting at the counter who seemed to be his sister. They were quite similar. She had short black hair, with red streaks tied back. Her clothes were in similar colors, a black shirt with red pants. She looked at Clare with a grimace, it was obvious that she didn't like her. She also had silver eyes.
"Meet Lily, Vince's little sister. She's as optimistic as he is," the brunette smiled at her, but it wasn't reciprocated. Vincent looked at them both and went into the back room. The room looked even worse than the bookstore, and when they came down, they found themselves in a huge training room filled with exercise equipment. Jayden was honestly surprised. This place could be used as a prime training facility. Spacious.
This hovel of yours is always so charming," Clare commented as she walked over to the punching bag. Vincent glared at the girl, who just smiled at him.
"This hovel of mine is the best place for vampires," the boy said coldly. Vincent stood next to her, and Jayden couldn't help but comment in his mind. Clare was better built than him, and Vincent looked like he had no muscles at all. Jayden smiled to himself, after all, someone was skinnier than him. "Why is your boyfriend smiling so much?" Vincent grunted and glared at him.
"Just do your thing," Clare added in a bored voice. "After training, return to the Pearl. No walks or detours." She looked pointedly at the dark-haired vampire, who just nodded.
"Are you coming?" Jayden asked nervously, he didn't want to be left alone with Vincent. The girl nodded, explaining that she had something to do. As soon as she left, there was an awkward silence.
"So," Vincent, who wasn't the type to talk much, began slowly, "vampires... vampires are creatures that live longer than humans and drink their blood," he began, saying it in the tone of a teacher who didn't he like his job. "The sun doesn't burn us, garlic or crosses don't kill us. That's it. I guess. The sun weakens us a lot, but it doesn't burn us like in the movies. And yes, we can eat human food. The only thing is... it won't make you gain weight. "Our food is blood and human food... hmm, will it keep us alive? That's all." he looked at the boy who had it written on his face that he didn't understand anything. Vincent sighed.
"So what... can vampires do?" Jayden asked uncertainly. Vincent looked at him with contempt.
"We vampires are better than humans," he walked over to the punching bag and punched, sending the bag straight into the wall. "We're stronger," he appeared behind the blonde with the blink of an eye, "we're faster. Our senses are more acute, and so is our regeneration." Jayden stood nervously, watching the man. He felt fine, but as Vincent approached him closer, he sensed danger and his instincts began to take over. At that moment he attacked the boy, who managed to escape at the last moment. Vincent was much more experienced but still had great difficulty defeating the boy.
Jayden completely lost control of himself, he didn't recognize the boy at all. Vincent was fast, but not as fast as Jayden, who was getting even faster and stronger by the second. Fortunately, the young vampire couldn't fight, his movements were uncoordinated, so he wasn't that agile. Vincent knew exactly how to use it. As soon as the blonde approached him to attack his neck, he crouched down and tripped him. Jayden fell to the ground, at the same moment Vincent grabbed the boy's head and hit it on the floor several times so that he lost consciousness.
If Jayden wasn't a vampire, he would have been dead long ago after receiving such injuries. Thanks to the vampire blood, his wounds had already begun to heal.
"That boy," Vincent cursed, knowing he would have to talk to Clare about this. Jayden wasn't an ordinary vampire, he couldn't be. The man cursed as he took out his phone to call her. The girl came back quickly.
"You were supposed to train with him, not beat him," she said ironically when she saw the unconscious Jayden lying in blood. She cursed, "No weird masochistic games with my vampire."
"Very funny. You shouldn't have brought him to me," he replied, crossing his arms, he had no intention of admitting his defeat. "He'll be fine. It's just what it looks like, but most of his wounds have already healed," he watched Clare with interest, it's been a long time since he'd seen her care about someone as much as she did about this blonde. She noticed his gaze.
"What do you want?" she lifted Jayden in her arms, which looked quite comical considering the difference in their heights. Vincent looked at her in surprise.
"Are you going to go like that?" the girl nodded.
"Oh kurwa, what should I do? You know very well that he's new to being a vampire and has no control over himself. And that's why you have to get a handle on him."
“Okay, okay, I understand, but it wasn't normal.” he said wondering "Instinct...every vampire has it and every new vampire has trouble controlling themselves at first...to keep their part of the human"
"But?" she asked.
“He's too strong, Clare. The new ones are not that strong" he glared at her "Golden eyes" his gaze focused on the unconscious boy "Only the strongest or Purebloods have golden eyes, Clare" The woman looked at him seriously.
“I know,” she said.
"'I know?' Clare… for me to help him, I need to know who he is,” he said coldly.
“Vincent… I don't know, I already explained to you” she replied as coldly as he did “There is a chance that whoever attacked him then was a Pureblood but” she stopped and looked at the unconscious blonde and back at the other vampire “I don't know who that son of a bitch was who attacked him. "I had a choice: leave him to die or try to save him." Vincent still remembered Clare bringing in an unconscious Jayden for the first time that night. He was surprised. That was the only time Clare had ever done something like that. At least since he knew her. Turn someone into a vampire just to save them. He then told her that he would help her, but it turns out that the matter may be more difficult than he expected. If the vampire who attacked him back then was a Pureblood, it wouldn't be easy. Vincent, like his sister, was an ordinary vampire. Purebloods were a completely different league.
“Okay… okay, never mind,” he replied tiredly, “we'll probably find out sooner or later anyway.”
Jayden woke up with a headache and a certain sense of deja vu. He was lying in Clare's bed and the room was half dark. He smiled to himself, remembering the first time he came here. This time he knew where he was. He grabbed his head, which was all sore. He groaned, trying to remember how he got here, but to no avail. The silence was broken by a discussion coming from the next room.
“I know, I know,” the woman said to the other person, and the boy recognized the second voice. It belonged to Felix but he didn't know what they were talking about. Suddenly the conversation stopped.
"You can come here now" she shouted to Jayden, the boy was nervous but left the room. The girl didn't even look at him. Jayden sat at the table, waiting for her. He felt a little embarrassed about the whole incident, even though he remembered little of it.
“Uhm…I don't remember what happened,” he began hesitantly.
"Nothing" she replied bitterly "You lost your temper and beat Vince up a bit" She looked at him. The boy fell silent, not knowing what to answer, he didn't expect it. Immediately, the memories of his home came back when he was close to killing his sister. He was close to killing someone again.
"I don't know...how did I..." he didn't know what to say, he felt disgusted with himself. Clare flicked him on the cheek.
"Don't blame yourself, Vincent is supposed to teach you to control it, after all, he knows more about vampires than you do. He is also a vampire after all." the girl smiled. Involuntarily, a smile also appeared on his face, deep inside he was grateful that she had decided to take care of him. "But I guess it didn't work out for him, hehe. He has to try harder. So do you."
