As always, Jayden got up early and made breakfast. This has become the norm. Clare was one of those people who went to bed quite late and got up just as late. At least by Jayden's standards, he was a morning person. Besides, he didn't sleep much that night. He yawned. He had many, too many thoughts after yesterday. At that moment, the brunette came out of her room, sleepy, wearing an oversized t-shirt and boxers. The girl had never had a problem wearing only her underwear around Jayden. Clare was confident in herself and her beauty, she liked to emphasize her assets, she always wore low-cut blouses and short shorts, exposing her long legs. Clare had something to breathe and she liked to show it off. Even though they have been living together for a while, the boy has always had a problem with it, he couldn't get used to it. An even bigger problem was that being a vampire made his emotions run wild. He'd be lying if he said he didn't like Clare. On the contrary. From the very beginning he thought she was pretty, which surprised even himself. He always thought that his ideal girl was a petite blonde, not a tall, athletic brunette with a questionable sense of humor. His face turned red.
"How...how can you walk like that?!" he said louder than he wanted, quickly turned around and started thinking about something terrible.
"Shhh...it's morning. How am I supposed to be dressed?" she yawned, took a sandwich from the table and sat down on the couch, content. She turned on the TV.
"In normal pajamas! The kind that covers...you know!" he said quickly, embarrassed.
"I'm sorry!" she shouted "I forgot you were so... shy" she didn't have to see his face to know what his expression was "it's quite cute to be honest" she definitely preferred his behavior to that of some guys.
"I'm going to Vincent's for training!" he quickly drank his tea and left the apartment. His face is red. He was angry at himself and all these vampire hormones, he called it. Vampire hormones. Whenever he saw a pretty woman, he wanted to sink his fangs into her and do many other things he preferred not to think about. But Clare was different. She affected him completely differently than others. And he didn't understand it.
Training with Vincent was slowly starting to give results in controlling his vampire instincts. Especially hunger. He no longer felt like jumping on every person he met to drink some blood. He was also starting to get used to this artificial, synthetic blood from Vincent. Apparently he gets it from friendly blood mages. Quite practical. He was comforted by the thought that he wasn't the only one drinking fake blood and that it meant he didn't have to attack anyone.
Vincent was already waiting for him outside the building, with a grimace on his face as usual. They went straight to the training room, where Lily was already waiting for them, with a grimace just as dissatisfied as her brother. She said a quick 'hey' to Jayden and sat on the floor, watching with a smile as they prepared for training. They took off their clothes, leaving them in only their pants and T-shirts. Jayden was already used to Lily sitting through their training sessions just to stare at them. At first it was quite embarrassing for him, but he stopped paying attention to it. Besides, he wasn't interested in Lily in any way. She was like her brother, always dissatisfied and always thinking she knew better. They were like copies of each other unlike him and his sister who was his opposite. Always joyful, with excess energy and very sociable. The thought of his family always made him sad. He tried to gather himself to ask Vince what he had really done to his family, but he didn't have the courage. He wasn't ready for this. He only guessed that maybe he had somehow erased it from his memory. Supposedly, stronger vampires are able to somehow manipulate memory.
"Can I ask you something?"
"Sure," Lily replied quite neutrally.
"What do you think about the Wardens?" Jayden tried to sound equally neutral so as not to arouse any suspicion.
"Fuck them," Lily replied angrily, "I hate them." He didn't expect a different answer, but he still preferred to ask.
"You better stay away from them" Vincent interjected "no matter which division they are from, strong or weaker, they are all motherfuckers. They kill people like us just like that. For no reason" Jayden swallowed. He didn't know what to answer. He really didn't realize how hated the Guardians were by the Night Creatures. How afraid they are of them. What he didn't understand. Until now. He felt like he was starting life over again.
"Clare told me the same thing yesterday…to stay away from them," he said, a little sadly.
"It's the first time I agree with her," Lily said harshly.
"Okay, end of story. The guards are bastards and if you see one, you run away. Right?" he looked at him. He nodded. "And now training. Today will be different," Vincent began, taking a box from the cabinet. He walked over to Jayden and started pulling out the contents.
It was animal blood which he poured into a glass. "Let's see if you've learned to control yourself a little," he added in a monotone voice. "Ready?"
"Yes," Vincent stared at the blonde, waiting for some sort of reaction. To his surprise, there was none. When their training began, even the smallest drop of blood made the boy lose control of himself. And now he was standing right in front of a whole glass of blood and was fully conscious.
"I see that science hasn't gone to waste," he replied dispassionately. Vincent was like that, he wasn't in the habit of praising anyone. He pulled out another package, this time it was human blood. He poured it into a glass and placed it next to one o'clock. Jayden nervously took a few steps back. His vampire senses responded. The boy instinctively grabbed his nose to stop smelling blood. His eyes sparkled for a moment, but then calmed down. He took a few deep breaths in and out. He let go of his nose. It was better now, he had calmed down. This exercise required a lot of concentration and strong will from him. This was the only way he could control his vampire instincts. He did it for himself so that he would never hurt innocent people.
"I thought you were going to throw yourself at the blood," Lily replied in a bored voice. The blonde smiled proudly to himself.
“There is progress,” Vince added coldly, although a slight smile appeared on his face, which was already a surprise. His cool silver eyes looked at Jayden. The boy smiled back and looked at Lily. The girl laughed lightly.
“Why do you have silver eyes?” the blonde pointed to his golden eyes.
“We were turned by an ordinary vampire” Lily was the first to explain “you see in the world of vampires you have two types - the ordinary vampire and the Pureblood motherfuckers”
“You were turned by some Pureblood,” Vince interjected, seeing the confusion on the blonde's face. “Pureblood vampires are something of an elite among us. They are definitely stronger than us.”
“Yes, there are very few of these families and they call their 'districts' the Nest” Lily walked over to them with their t-shirts for them to put on “However, just being bitten by a Pureblood doesn't mean you are one. They have some strange rituals of their own," she added bitterly. It was obvious she didn't like them. Vince went and checked something on his phone, came back to them.
“Hmm, Clare said we could go on some easy mission together,” he showed them the phone with the details. Jayden noticed that it was rated for beginners.
“Wait, you guys are Hunters too?!” it just dawned on him. Lily patted him on the shoulder, which wasn't so easy for her considering the difference in height between them. Jayden was one of the tall guys. Even Vince was quite short next to him, although it wasn't that difficult if he was the same height as Clare. Clare was quite tall for a woman, but not overly tall. For Jayden, her height was perfect.
“Duh, yeah,” she laughed.
