Jayden, Vincent, and Lily stood on the roof of an old building somewhere in the Green District, watching the street below. It was their first mission together, and Jayden felt excited and a little scared at the same time. Vincent and Lily had been vampires for many years and were very experienced bounty hunters. Jayden was new and just learning. The place itself terrified him. He had never been to the Green District and now he understood why it was the worst and most dangerous district. Even the people passing by looked quite menacing. And only the name of the district was optimistic, and the reality was quite grim.
“This should be easy,” Vincent said. “We just have to recover the loss of a certain rich man.”
“And where is this lost thingie?” Jayden asked.
“He's in the hands of a werewolf,” Lily replied. “It is an old family heirloom that is of great value to him. Something like that. I won't go into detail. I am not interested."
Jayden nodded. “I see,” he said. "I am ready." he said even though he was shaking inside.
The three vampires descended from the roof and hid in the shadows. Fortunately, night was approaching and their skills were better then. During the day, they are simply weakened by the sun. They crossed the street and found a club where a werewolf was in charge.
“That's it,” Vincent said quietly. “Let's go in. Oh, and you don't do anything without me, you have to listen to me. Understood?"
The vampires entered the bar and quickly found the werewolf. He was sitting at the bar having a drink. He was quite a large man in his late fifties. His face suited this place, which was quite dingy. Jayden sensed immediately that the place was full of all sorts of Beings and no humans.
“It's him,” Vince said quietly.
“Let's go,” Lily said, “It's time for some action,” she added with a slight smile.
The three vampires approached the werewolf. Vincent and Lily stood at the front. Jayden looked around but luckily no one was paying attention to them. It's probably nothing special for them.
“Give it to us,” Vincent said, taking out his phone with a photo of the lost item, which was a precious gold necklace. No wonder he stole it. It was certainly worth many thousands of credits “The owner claims the loss”.
The werewolf looked at them and smiled. “It doesn't matter,” he said. “It's mine now”
Suddenly, people who initially seemed engaged in conversation stood up and surrounded the group of vampires. The situation became tense “You come in here and think I don't have a backup? This whole bar is mine” he laughed loudly. Jayden looked at his siblings, who, to his surprise, looked very calm.
“Werewolves, grumpy as always,” Lily added, bored. She and Vincent, in one swift movement, bit into the vials of blood hidden in their wristbands under their sleeves at their wrists. Jayden had one too. Before the mission, Vincent provided them well. Right after them, the blonde also quickly clicked on the mechanism hidden in the band under his sleeve and bit into the vial of blood. Their eyes flashed red. He felt a surge of strength.
“You little leeches,” the werewolf hissed in surprise. The rest of the people nearby rushed at them, but they had no chance against their siblings. Their movements were perfectly synchronized and they easily attacked one attacker after another. Jayden was actually surprised at how well they fought. Sam tried to stay out of the fight, he tried, but there was no chance of it. The two attackers attacked him. At first, the fight was quite clumsy on his part, fear eating him up. He knew he had to fight, he couldn't give up.
'Fight, fight, fight!!!' he repeated in his mind until he allowed his vampire nature to take over. He got carried away by adrenaline. His movements were chaotic and uncoordinated, but what mattered was that he fought. He resisted. He even managed to injure his opponents. They were ready to attack again, but Vincent jumped out at them by surprise and pierced them through with his blade-sharp claws. Jayden couldn't use his claws yet. Every vampire could do that, but not him. At least for now.
“Tsk. I thought I could do without bloodshed" he said, disgusted, and then approached the thief. Lily slowly joined her brother. Jayden looked around the bar, which looked like a battlefield. There were fallen people everywhere. Jayden couldn't believe that the two of them were able to do this. "So, will you give us the necklace or should we talk differently?" Vincent sounded extremely menacing, his eyes glowing a bloody color.
“Damn, you leeches,” the werewolf spat blood onto the floor. He struggled with his pride. He finally took off the necklace and handed it to Lily with great disgust.
“It was better, if you would have listened to us and returned it right away,” she said with resentment in her voice, “I wouldn't have gotten dirty.”
They slowly started to turn around as the werewolf lunged at them, but Vincent was faster. With a few quick and accurate blows he killed the man “Tsk. "We could have done without it," he commented coldly. The three of them returned to the car and drove to the address where they were supposed to leave the package. Everything went smoothly. Jayden still felt the adrenaline rush, even after they entered the bookstore and the training hall. He had to share this with his siblings.
“Wow…that was…amazing” the boy exhaled as if he had been holding it forever, “how you…how strong you are! You defeated them yourself!” he didn't hide his excitement about it. The humor was also passed on to the siblings.
“Oh well, we're great after all,” Lily said quite happily, which was quite a rare occurrence. Vince nodded at her.
“But don't get used to it. Not all missions are that simple," he added with a slight smile. Seeing Jayden so happy amused him. But it was a nice change. Lily quietly watched her brother and Jayden with a small smile.
“So what? Shall we go drinking at the Pearl?" she said happily.
