HOW NOT TO CAGE A QUEEN

Chapter Three: The Queen's Palace

Chapter Three: The Queen's Palace

Feb 01, 2024

Months after the Angels had disappeared and the borders to the Earth Realm mysteriously closed, a great statue was built in honor of the lost queen. The statue was placed in a mage country called Laivo, after it was declared the new capital of the post-war Earth world unity.

During Queen Valeriah's reign, the population of Fae, Mage and shifters had been mixed and scattered to all corners of the three earths, so much so that each world was utterly dependent on each other for trade. The races were so mixed within themselves that it was practically impossible to regress back to the former independent state of individual worlds. The Era before the Great heroic Queen.

The mass worried about the new united way of the world. The war was over, but, with the queen gone… What could that mean for the future?

She was the piece that held them together. All, loved and adored her. The woman who taught them peace in an era of war. The leader who fought boldly and saved them from the hands of the evil invaders.

What would the world look like without their dear Queen? She had created a new world, only for her to die and leave them to navigate alone.

There was only one thing they could do to truly honor her.

Rebuild. Start over.

In but a few days, towers were already built to the skyline after the war. Progress was fast due to the combined skills of Fae magic, magic tools and high mage technical superiority.

As the ashes of war seized to rain any longer, some soldiers returned to their villages to rebuild, while others decided to stay in Laivo, the new capital, to maintain the centralized military power. The One mark the queen engraved in the hearts, mind, and soul of the people was the raging spirit to always be prepared for battle, whether the enemy was at hand or not.

“I check the newspaper only to read this shit. How could you make Laivo the capital!" Jae yells as he slams the newspapers on the desk, pointed ear twitching in anger. "You didn't even think to inform us—no—me, before declaring it publicly."

"Because I knew you would react like this." Marten sucks in air, keeping his large build calm as he sits in front of his desk, signing some documents. Supervising the rebuilding was more than stressful. But he needed to put his all, if he was going to create the world the Queen envisioned.

Jae's sapphire blue eyes sharpens as the tension rises. How dare the 'dog-man' go on writing as if another man equal to him was not in the room.

Janette sits quietly from the sidelines, bowing her head low. She would rather not get in between the men. Her head was bandaged with a few stitches on her face here and there. The men also had visible bandages and scars from the previous battle.

Marten in particular had his entire left arm wrapped in white medical cloth. His wounds were severe.

“Eewie land of the light Elves, was it not a good fit to be the capital?” Jae spits with a raised brow.

"The Queen's first raid was in Laivo—"

"The Queen's first declaration of war against the Angels was in Eewie... I am quite sure that surpasses the other.”

“What are you trying to say here?” Marten pauses his work.

“What I'm saying is, you filthy shifters are trying to screw over the Elvian power in Queen Valeriah's absence, when we contributed the most resources in the war. Now how is that fair!” Jae yells, staring intensely at the brown haired mutt.

“You all would have died if you didn't contribute. She turned your worthless, shiny trinkets and materials to a fueling weapon against our enemies. It doesn't have to be fair. It is what she would have wanted,” Marten responds back in a harsh tone as he returns to working. The Ink pen presses hard on the paper as it moves, creating a sharp loud sound.

“I see. So this is how it is.” Jae crosses his arms, regaining his composure. “The Queen didn't choose a successor. You are nobody to dictate what she would have 'wanted'”

“Do not waste my time, Jae. See yourself out when you're done.”

“Prideful bastard. I am sure this is what you wanted. To replace her.”

“How could you say that? You of all people should know that I respect her above anybody else.”

“Then why would you decide the Earth's capital, without informing anybody?"

“I held a meeting, the other leaders agreed.”

“Were any Elves present in that meeting?”

“I sent letters to all your leaders. It's not my fault you all failed to attend,” Marten responds.

“Who are you to summon and end world meetings. Definitely not the King of Earth,” Jae replied.

"You mean the meeting that takes place every quarterly, since the beginning of the Union? The only thing I did was maintain the conduct.”

“Choosing the Capital without Fae authority is going too far. This is injustice!”

“D-Does it really matter?”Janette mumbles, trying to ease the situation. She recalled how these two used to be close friends when the queen was here.

How could they change their attitude towards each other so fast?

“Yes it does,” a voice says, drawing the attention of the two raging men.

An olive skinned man with black eyes, walks into the office with two guards, who stops at the door.

“I attended the meeting. And yes, I also agreed to make Laivo the capital, but, I still don't see why marten took the upper seat in the court to dictate the affairs of the Union. Who made you king?” Yousef asks, brown eyes looking directly at Marten.

Marten drops his pen and rubs his eyes, already overstressed from work. “I am not taking this decision back. Laivo is capital and that is final.”

“Already acting as the past Queen herself. Didn't even wait for her grave to cold. As expected of the Leader of the highest Shifter Tribe; The king of Dragons. Queen Valeriah connected our worlds as one nation forming the Union we know today,” Yousef stretches both his hands defensively, “don't take this the wrong way, but I don't see why a race with the instincts of wild animals should have the deciding power over the Union. A federation as grand as this needs to be controlled carefully with calculated thoughts and consideration, as did the queen before. I doubt any of your kind can perform such a great task. You simply are unfit to rule”

Jae tenses from the straight out bluntness coming from the Mage, Yousef. Even he couldn't be so brute.

Marten looks at the smug looking man with indifferent eyes. His words couldn't bother him one bit.

“I believe you have mistaken me. I do not desire to rule the Union as King. Far from it.” Frankly, Marten is confused by this whole ruling discussion. He never even thought something like this would come up. “Afterall the Queen might still be alive.”

“Stop pretending. You desire the throne for yourselves.” Jae scoffs.

Marten furrows his eyebrows, seeming offended that they would even think he would do something like that.

“If truly you have no interest in the Queen's throne, why would you make the decision of the capital's location by yourself. I remember you proposing Laivo as the host territory in the meeting,” Yousef says.

“As I said before. I am merely following instructions. The Queen had told me of her plans to make Laivo the capital before her disappearance."

“What a cunning man.” Jae laughs as he looks sideways while holding his waist. “The queen had six Arms. And you just so happen to be the only one present when she made this declaration?”

“Anne and Heo were there.”

Yousef narrows his eyes as he gave a disgusted expression.

“I did not come for a conversation. I am merely here to pass a message on behalf of the king of Egor.” Egor was the largest Empire in the Lands of Magic. The nation Yousef comes from. “He wishes to give his appreciation to Marten, for making Laivo the Capital. However, he asks that you step down from whatever position you crowned yourself so that he may serve the Union undisturbed by becoming the King of Earth in replacement of our dear Queen who we lost too soon.”

“How strange. The Emperor of Fayes also desires to render his services as King of Earth, as well," Jae says as he looks at Yousef playfully. But truly he is serious. Darkly serious.

A vein pops on Marten's forehead. "Not a year has passed after the Queen disappeared—"

"—Died," Jae corrects.

" And Your selfish leaders have already concocted plans to become Earth's ruler?" Marten furrows his eyebrows as he stands to his feet towering everyone in the room. His emotions is thick in his voice. "How shameless. She was my queen before she was yours. I will not let your corrupt leaders tarnish her creation. I refuse. No one shall take her place, until she returns."

"How practical is it to wait for a dead queen?"

"You all smiled and pretended to be loyal when she was here and now you are eager to take her place." Marten begins to reach for the sword at his belt, driven by anger.

"I say this kindly. Stop whatever delusions you live in. And submit all your powers publicly. The Union council seem to obey your commands mindlessly. But we do not mind taking the powers from them if we have to." Yousef warns with a poisonous tone of threat in his voice.

"If your kings want power they should do things the right way and wait for voting in the Council."

"Like we do not know you have your ratty Shifter underlings planted in the Council like pests. We will not consider the council any way."

"How then do you seek to gain power?"

"We will do what needs to be done." Yousef speaks.

"War?" Marten's eyes widen as he figures it out. "Do you know the meaning of what you're saying?" He lets out a low animalistic growl, dragon side slowly taking over.

"If it needs to be," Yousef starts with a cunning smirk. "Mourning is over, the Throne of Earth cannot remain empty forever. There needs to be a leader who can fufill her role?" Yousef explains looking marten in the eye. "Shifters have abused their powers for too long. The Queen is dead, who shall you hide behind now. Because you were closer to the queen in her era doesn't mean we Mages will step down for you, Marten. Earth needs a capable leader now more than ever. It Is our turn to dominate"

"You are dumber than the Shifters if you think Faes will let you." Jae cuts in briefly with a snort.

"The queen started with shifters as her soldiers. Her legacy should only be passed down to another shifter. Go back to your Kings and tell them to focus on their countries!" Marten yells in a dominant angered tone ready to swing his sword and slice heads.

"Not even Queen Valeriah declared that. Do you still not understand? Anyone can be Earth's ruler," Jae responds.

Marten can see the hunger for power burning in their eyes. No words could ever change their mind.

The other two glare back at him. They had no plans of stepping back.

The Queen left no successor, which meant anyone could become the next Regent of the joined Earths. The race that gets the Throne, gets the highest power above the other.

Janette only shifts back covering her mouth in silence from the scene unveiling in front of her. Her senses could already predict the darkness about to come. The absence of the queen created a problem that no one could have prepared for. A problem that just might destroy the new found peace of the new World.

The Queen's palace is crumbling

Who would want to govern their own kingdom when you could rule the world?

"The queen built this nation to stop wars. She United us, what would she say if she heard this conversation?"

"Nothing,"

"Because she's dead."
