My love, The Gypsy

Chapter 6: English Class

Chapter 6: English Class

Feb 04, 2024

It was 8:00 a.m. when Abigail slowly awakened from her deep slumber; perhaps it was a pair of noisy voices beyond comparison that had a part in awakening her. She sat up and rubbed her eyes. Her excuse for this extreme tiredness was from dealing with that pompous, pure blood. Not the fact she had lost a lot of blood.
She opened her eyes and found an angry Camellia and Sophia.
“Morning.” She muttered, sleepy.

“Is that all you have to say?!” Sophia growled at her.
“Do you know how worried we were?” Camellia snaps, joining in the scolding. They both looked angry.
“I can't believe you did that, and after Camellia agreed to you joining us. All because we thought you were someone who didn’t break the rules.” Sophia barked at her angrily. Her face was stern, and her eyes stared at Abigail’s bandaged arm.

“I would love for you guys to remember that I have shown no promise of such actions.” Retorted Abigail tiredly, still trying to wake up. She felt very guilty, and she couldn’t understand why.
“Well, guess what, sunshine? You're still doing your class today.” Sophia grins mischievously.

“That’s right. We better keep an eye on our troubling-making kitty.” Camellia added, her voice harsh but gentle.
“You guys must be my personal demons from hell.” Abigail tells them sarcastically. She tried brushing off her feelings; They felt foreign to her.
“And before you continue, what do you mean by joining you?” Abigail asked; she stared at the two girls, curiosity burning.

“Well, we decided it would be a good idea for you to join us on the discipline committee.” Sophia explains that she gave Abigail a kind smile to show there was no harm between them.
“Yep. You seem like someone we could trust. And could help us make sure everyone stays in line.” Camellia adds while she looks away, trying to seem like she doesn’t care.
“I see…” Abigail sighs, “Well, I don’t think the night students like me.” Abigail warns.

Sophia and Camellia smile at this; “And you’re going to let that stop you.” Camellia remarked. “Seems weak to me.” She added
Abigail looked at them in disbelief that they wanted her to join them. She thought they would hate her since she was out of her dorm at night.
“But didn’t I break the rules? Don’t you guys hate me for that?” She mutters, looking down at her hands in guilt.
“I guess us asking does seem suspicious. But now the girls are terrified, and they think you got attacked by a bear. So you just made it easier to watch them. And I can’t hate you, not yet, anyway. It’s not like you were leaving and meeting up with someone who could harm the school.” Sophia told her; she watched Abigail clench her bed sheets at the last part.

Sophia felt annoyed that Abigail did and that she tried to break their trust. But she was willing to put that behind her and help Abigail become more responsible. Sophia and Camellia decided the best way to do that was by having Abigail near them at all times. She watched Abigail's eyes flicker between guilt and trying to determine if her words were sincere.
“Trust us. We hope to become great friends.” Camellia added in a sweet voice.

Abigail looked at them and smiled. “Yes, of course. As do I.” Abigail replies.
Abigail shooed the two girls out so that she could get changed. After she got dressed and put on her armband to show she was a part of the discipline committee, she stuffed her locket under the shirt she was wearing. She walked out of the room and headed down the hall and saw the two girls waiting for her.

The girls noticed her and started heading towards the door; Abigail did a light jog to catch up to them. All three girls shielded their eyes from the bright sun; they looked at each other and laughed at how they all had to protect their eyes. Camellia waved bye to Sophia and Abigail and headed off to her classes for the morning.
Abigail noticed Sophia’s mood was off, even though she was so cheery outside that she must be furious at her for pulling her stunt.
“Sophia… I’m sorry- for my stunt. I bet that hurt you, and I never wanted to hurt you that way.” Abigail explained, hoping that she could mend her mistake.
Abigail tended to forget she was still a teen. Even though those words made her cringe, it was the truth. And at her age, she should be living her best life before officially becoming an adult. This was the closest she had gotten to being able to experience that memory and joy.

“Abigail… I am still angry at you, and sometimes, you don’t seem like someone who came here to learn. You remind me of my brother when he still worked under the Hunter organization; he always had to lie, even to me, and eventually forgot who he was. It’s not my story to tell, but you'll end up like him, nothing but a broken character who was used as a scapegoat.”

Sophia took a deep breath in, waiting to see Abigail’s look of shock or her eyes hardened in anger, but all she saw was a smile. ‘Why? Why are you smiling? I spoke the truth because you are a bad liar and could possibly bring chaos to the people I love. Yet your eyes are gentle, and your smile is full of kindness. Just what are you trying to accomplish here?’

Sophia decided to continue with what she was saying. It didn’t look like Abigail would answer her with honesty.
“Everyone knows why you are here, and you’re nothing but a liar… and someone I wish I could be friends with.” Sophia told Abigail, her voice cracking. She didn’t realize how much she really wished that she wanted to be true friends with Abigail.

“Hmm, I never thought of it that way. It's rather silly, but I’m glad to have met someone like you and Camellia. You guys are so caring, and you’re a great younger sister.” Abigail smiled, ‘Who would have thought you would see so much? You must be a great listener since your empathy runs so deep that you can see the true emotions of those around you.’

“I promise you, Sophia, I'll always stay true to myself. I'll even let you guys know in advance once the pieces fall into place.” Abigail looked up at the blue sky to hide her sorrow-filled eyes.
I'll eventually have to forget about them; what a pitiful person I am. I wish I were strong like you and Camellia.

The rest of the trip was filled with silence, class after class. It was at the end of the last class they had together that Sophia finally spoke to Abigail.

“I'm willing to give you a second chance, but you must earn my forgiveness.” Sophia mumbled quietly to Abigail before rushing off.

“Well, shit.” Abigail muttered to herself. She could feel herself crumbling. I'm so sorry, Sophia. I never knew that I would be so- so confused; I hope I can fix my mess.

Abigail walked straight to English and got there 15 minutes early. She walked solemnly to the back of the class. The necklace she wore felt like a burning venomous snake around her neck. A small part of her begged that she take off, but the rest tried to silence the pleads, saying it was their duty to wear such a necklace.

Abigail sat down, pulled out some note cards, and opened her textbook; she started jotting down her lesson from yesterday and the lesson she would be learning today. Abigail hadn't realized the classroom had become full, and Professor Fig had also arrived. He cleared his throat several times before she realized that it was time for class.

She quickly put her stuff down and started paying attention to the lesson. She began to zone out when she noticed that Camellia wasn't there. She found this weird. But of course, this was only her third day, the second day she missed her classes because 9f the task she was given. And now Camellia is missing, and she is still awaiting an opportunity to mend things with Sophia.

‘Ugh. School life sucksss. Guess this is going to be normal now.’ Abigail went to school and studied, of course, but her hiding away life caused her to pull up her big pants and deal with other things. She wasn't pleased with some of the things she did, but she could have sworn she turned off certain emotions to stay strong. But here she was, watching that crumble.

She started to watch the professor and think about roll call, and it dawned on her that he never called Camellia's name. Almost like she didn't exist in this class, she started to watch other students, matching their behavior from her first day to her third day.

‘Hmm, they haven't been glancing at the back row, and most students here have ignored me. This leaves two options;
1: They were looking at me, yet they didn't know about the true nature of the night students. So my incident has never been told to them. Even now, they aren't looking this way, showing that my injuries hold nothing to them.
2: Camellia caught their eye; her appearance must've surprised them. Which could mean she hardly attends this class. Or they naturally fear her, causing them to be on alert.

Abigail groaned; there were too many possibilities, and she missed the end of English class, her worst subject of all time. Abigail noticed that she still had some note cards out, so she began to reach for them when another student bumped her desk, sending them all over the place.

‘Mother Loving Ever Holy Donkey Kicking Hellraiser!’ Abigail shouted in her head. She was so annoyed. She bent down and started picking up her cards. She swears she didn't collect them all and then stands up, only to hit the corner of her desk. She dropped the cards she collected and tried to stand up faster this time, leading to another painful hit from the corner of the desk.

“Mother Trucker! That hurt worse than a tit-sucking bat! Goddammit!” She growled. She moved quickly out from her desk by rolling away from it and then standing up. She found less than the first time she picked up her note cards. She huffed and just left. She wasn't in the mood to give out any more shits for caring.

She returned to her room and saw a fat envelope at her door. She picked it up and headed into the room. The first page of the letter read;

“Dear Miss Abigail,
I heard that you agreed to be a part of the Disciplinary Committee. I wrote down all the tasks you need to do and how to perform them most effectively for both students. We need a hell-raiser like you to set a good example, right?
Please remember that I'm glad you are now a part of this academy family, and know that I will help guide you the best I can. Hope you have an enjoyable night.
Your's Truly,
Roman Roble.”

She couldn’t tell if he was teasing her at some point or warning her, but he wasn't the only one who wrote her a letter. And this one was a warning.

“Dear Miss Abigail.
If you're reading this, then it means you haven't tried to let down the school… yet. I hope you carry out your duties to perfection. One sigh or word in the wrong way, and I will personally see that you know the meaning of hell. I would not say this to any other student, but you are probably a failure from the Hunter Organization or whatever they call themselves. You shall learn discipline and patience while you are under the Disciplinary Committee.

Headmistress, Rosen.”

The rest were the rules and guidelines as Roman had promised. Though, the letters she received didn't shake her or make her want to prove herself. This was her job, and she always did her job to a hundred percent. Even if that meant she had to be an ass-kisser to some pompous jerk. The only thing that unnerved her was the chicken scratch the Headmistress had used in her letter.

Abigail put on her armband and headed off to her first-night task. With a flip of a switch, her face hardened, ready to fake a smile or act in any way needed to calm any situation. A mask was the best way to put it.

Blood… blood is the life force of any living being. Even wars and the earth thrive on it. It tastes bitter to all of those called humans. But to something called a monster, well, then it might vary.

But those blinded by false pretense of myths being fake know nothing of a long and bloody war between humans and monsters—Hunter vs. predator, strong against weak, vampire vs. cattle. That is the old name of the game.

One day, the great purebloods and the wise old hunters decided to make a truce between them. One such step is a school that carries both—a school of day and night students—the day, never knowing the truth of the night.

Abigail is only a select few who know such things, but only because fate decided to start her story of thrill and myths early—leading and guiding her to the last purebloods to exist.

Will she learn to help and put her annoyance of purebloods behind her, or fail to understand the truth of being a gypsy is loving a monster?
