Following the conversation they had, Lucius broke the news to the twins, Alicia and all the other servants under him. All of them were confused but none complained, except one.
“Huh!? Why are you giving up all of our possessions to… Him!!?”
Aqua revolted as she did not understand why her father would give up everything he owns to someone she barely knows.
“This young man is our prince, and he will soon be a king. I understand that this comes as a shock to you, but you must be considerate. He is a prince and his father was king, so please do not make a scene right now.”
“A Prince!!? How can a peasant like h-”
“Enough! I will not have you insult our majesty in front of his face!”
The hall went silent as nobody said a word, in anger Aqua stormed out of the room.
“Was that necessary? Weren’t you a little too… Harsh on her?” Regulus said to Lucius as he spoke on his concern for the teen.
“She lacks respect… I may have been too soft on her as she grew up. After all she’s the only woman I have left to care for…”
Regulus did not dare pry into the family matter as he sat on a chair. After some time, the priest arrived along with multiple guards.
“Ah! You have arrived Sir Cedric! Come, the prince is here. Regulus, you must recognize Sir Cedric, he was part of the royal guard during your father’s reign.”
As he was saying this, Regulus was utterly confused, the royal guard? Then he must be a knight? But didn’t Lucius call for a priest?
“My apologies, I seem to have forgotten to introduce myself. I am Cedric, former Knight of the Royal Guard. Although I am still capable of wielding a sword, my fighting days are over, I now serve our God as his messenger and servant.”
The monk said as he gave a slight nod, in which the others nodded in return. All of a sudden the monk grasped Regulus’ hand.
“Mhm, you may be different in body and mind, but your soul is indifferent from all the other Kings that have passed.”
As the introductions finished, everyone went inside where many people gathered. The nobles from house Retinas and their servants, Regulus and many common folk from the nearby village.
‘It seems word spreads fast, it hasn’t even been an hour but many people have already arrived. Sir Lucius’ influence must be vast for people to come here in a short period of time.’
Regulus thought as he was dumbfounded at the number of people that had gathered to spectate his coronation. Eventually the crowd were forced to wait as Regulus and the others went inside to prepare. Since this was a small coronation for a kingdom that nobody has even heard of.
“Regulus, come follow me. Although this is only a small coronation, you need to wear much more appropriate clothes for someone of your stature.” Lucius said as he guided Regulus to his wardrobe. It was a huge relief that both of them were similar in terms of height and weight.
After some searching and fitting, the two ended up with a simple but appropriate attire for Regulus. It consisted of a plain tunic, some small but noticeable cloth and leather accessories and a mantle hanging over his shoulders. Now that they have finished finding the suitable clothes, it was time to step out and begin the coronation
“Ah, you are now here. Come, sit as I recite the coronation rites.” Cedric said as his guards prepared the crown. He motioned to the rest of his guards to silence the crowd as they were quite noisy. As the noise subsided the monk prepared the coronation, after waiting a few moments, he raised his hands up.
“O Divine Majesty, benevolent and eternal, on this auspicious day, as we gather beneath the vast expanse of your almighty gaze, we, your humble servants, stand witness to the anointment of a sovereign, a shepherd chosen by your divine will to guide and lead this fledgling kingdom.
In the tapestry of time, you have woven the threads of this realm, a kingdom born from the toil and aspirations of its people. The crown we place upon this sovereign's head is not merely a symbol of mortal power but a testament to the divine trust bestowed upon him by your omnipotent grace.
May this king be a just and merciful ruler, a guardian of the meek, and a beacon of light in times of darkness. Let the scepter he holds be a symbol of righteous authority, wielded with humility and compassion. In the face of challenges and adversities, may his faith be unshaken, and his resolve unwavering, guided by the moral compass inscribed in the sacred texts.
As the mantle of leadership descends upon his shoulders, let it be a mantle of servitude, a commitment to the well-being of his subjects. May he govern with fairness, temperance, and a heart filled with benevolence. Let the words of justice be spoken from his lips, and the deeds of compassion flow from his hands. May this kingdom flourish under his rule, and may the legacy he leaves be etched in the annals of history as a testament to your divine providence.
In your sacred name, we offer this prayer, beseeching your continued guidance and grace upon this monarch and the realm over which he now presides”
He finishes by placing his hands on Regulus’ shoulders and then on his head.
“Now, we shall witness him speak the oath. Please repeat after me.”
“I, State your name, solemnly swear and affirm before our God and the people of your Kingdom that I will faithfully and conscientiously fulfill the duties and responsibilities entrusted to me as the future King with utmost dedication and integrity.”
Before the coronation, Lucius had asked Regulus about the name of his kingdom. He suggested many names but none were pleasing to the ear nor were they practical. He then remembered a book he read as a child, which mentioned the word “Eldor” which meant “Beginning”.
“I, Regulus Vendetta, solemnly swear and affirm before our God and the people of Eldorin that I will faithfully and conscientiously fulfill the duties and responsibilities entrusted to me as the future King with utmost dedication and integrity.”
He said as Lucius was shocked by the sudden change of his surname…. He understood that it would conflict with the kingdom of Syndis but he did not understand why.
“I pledge to rule with fairness, I shall receive no bribe nor rule with bias. I shall defend this kingdom with my last breath, to defend it and its honor. I shall strive to be a unifying figure and force for my people.”
“I pledge to rule with fairness, I shall receive no bribe nor rule with bias. I shall defend this kingdom with my last breath, to defend it and its honor. Striving to be a unifying figure and force for my people.”
“In times of peace, I shall be a symbol of stability and continuity, and in times of crisis, I shall stand resolute to protect and serve the interests of Eldorin.”
The priest said as he carefully grabbed the crown and raised it to the air, the crowd watching in anticipation.
“In times of peace, I shall be a symbol of stability and continuity, and in times of crisis…. I shall stand resolute to protect and serve the interests of Eldorin.”
As Regulus said the final word, Cedric gently placed the crown on Regulus’ head, with the crowd erupting in applause, as a new king has been crowned.
