‘Looks like I’ll have to use that…’ Nina and Alex both thought as they took their respective stance. Aside from their own techniques both Alex and Nina had received a spell from Luxario and Merissa respectively.
Nina joined her fingers slightly keeping space between her hands. As she closed her eyes a magic circle formed behind her and two light blue arms came out from it to either side of Nina. A slow tornado of ice started to form in front of her, with the tornado’s mouth opening towards Flamailo.
Alex hadn’t properly pulled it off before but he knew he had no choice now. He stabbed the sword in the floor. The thin black-mana coating on his sword started expanding. In no time waves of mana danced out from his sword. Alex positioned himself so that the flaming skull was coming from his left. He held the hilt in his left hand focusing on the energy as it got denser.
Before long, the mana accumulating by their sides peaked!
Nina, “Glacier Cyclone!”
Alex, “Mad Sage: Raging Streak!”
Both of them released their tier one spells. The ice cyclone extended as it clashed with the flaming skull. Alex moved his sword in an upward arc with his left hand. As he did black-mana was released from the slash and the energy raced forward towards the skull as it travelled on the surface of the floor in a spiky form.
Initially as soon as their spells crashed Alex’s and Nina’s spells were struggling against the flaming skulls until the gap reduced. They were almost on a stand still. Almost.
“Aaahhh!!” Alex and Nina placed more mana behind it. Consequently, they destroyed the skulls striking Flamalio.
*BOOM*
A large explosion took place. The resulting wave sent Nina and Alex flying back a little.
The second-floor students felt some tremors but only for a second. However soon the student’s attention was taken away from it. Alex and Nina were sitting against the walls exhausted by overexerting themselves. As the dust settled there lay only rubble and two gaping holes in the walls and the sealing. It was no exaggeration to say that the most part of the area was missing.
Nina sighed in relief thinking that they finally took care of it. However, Alex wasn’t so sure. It was already minutes since they were sitting there but no student took notice of the gaping hole. From what he knew after someone dies the zone or spell created by them comes to an end.
But he heard no screams whatsoever. This could mean only one thing.
Miracle, ‘He’s alive.’
“Cough, cough…” Flamalio’s charred body got up with difficulty. Alex wanted to stand but his body refused to move, the same with Nina. Their tier one spells were rather high class for them to get used to it quickly. Flamalio then removed a small bottle from a small spatial pocket he formed with his hand and drank it. His body started healing at an astonishing rate visible to the naked eye spreading despair as a frown formed on Alex and Nina’s face.
Alex knew if he gave up now it was the end. He somehow managed to get up using the sword as support.
“You brats, I’ll kill you now! I’ll kill you!!” The demon roared clearly angered by how mere kids were able to bring him to the brink of death. Sparks of flames began to ignite at this finger tips.
“I think otherwise.” A voice came out of nowhere.
The creature looked up to see who it was and saw a girl in black and blue combat gear with the all too familiar symbol of the Council’s shield and sword. Rose jumped and flipped towards Nina’s side.
“Tch! Looks like we’ll have to continue this sometime else.” Flamalio said in his distorted voice as he broke a crystal and began teleporting.
“We’ll meet again kid.” He said pointing towards Alex before he vanished.
With him gone his zone also disappeared. However, Rose had already set up her zone. Rose’s eagle faced lieutenant came with two other person wearing combat gear same as Rose’s, only it was complete blue. They went to tend to Nina. Rose and one other person wearing the same complete blue gear came to Alex’s aid.
Rose, “You alright?”
Alex, “Somehow.” The medic tended to Alex’s wounds with his healing magic.
“Thanks.” Alex said as he looked at Rose.
She blinked, taken aback by his words. She half expected him to curse them for showing up so late. She wouldn’t even have blamed him since they were indeed caught off guard. It was completely unexcepted.
“What for?” Rose asked as she turned around looking at Nina.
“I am aware that you with your limited force is trying to keep me safe. Emerald’s authorities won’t care if I die since that’ll be much easier and solve the problem of legendary treasures.”
“How did you come to know?” Rose asked surprised.
This was something Rose wanted to keep a secret from Alex. Although there was security in place for Alex, arranged by the Council, it wasn’t nearly enough for multiple threats at Flamalio’s level.
“With your shitty timing of course. If it was your whole unit, you would have long since came to our aid. But you came after what I am guessing a sudden mana spike. Hence the conclusion.”
Rose, “Master wanted to dispatch more people but the Ministry of Justice…”
“I understand politics R-1.” Alex said waving his hand to let it go. He was grateful enough that people are indeed there trying to help him.
Sometime later Alex noticed Rose talking to someone using her wrist band. He couldn’t hear her properly but it seemed like someone of a top brass, maybe Clare. Just as her talk finished the walls, ceiling and floor were all returning to normal on their own as if they had a mind of their own. Alex and Nina watched in amazement.
“Here.” Rose said snatching their attention as she handed Nina and Alex green colored wristbands.
“Use them to contact me. Me or lieutenant Chirp will come to your aid if you guys are in trouble.”
She instructed pointing to her eagle faced lieutenant who gave a nod.
Alex, “So it works like a phone?”
“Kind of” The lieutenant replied.
“Then I can call you anytime I need right?” Alex asked grinning with mischief.
Rose, “No only—
Alex, “Alright then I’ll call you when I am hungry you can grab some food for me. I’ll also be calling… ow ow…”
“Thanks for all the help. We are really grateful.” Nina said as she pinched Alex on his arm.
“It’s alright we are only following orders. We’ll get going now.” Rose said as she and her team took their leave.
