To See You Again

After what seemed like us aimlessly running around, avoiding all the shrubs and branches, we arrived at a clearing. I froze in awe at the marvelous scenery. There was a majestic waterfall that fell into a little pool that had small streams along the sides. The water shimmered in the sunlight like little water dancers. Before I could completely take in the breathtaking view, I was splashed in the face with water. Caleb was already in the water, playing and calling me over as well. I rushed over to him and started to splash him back. We stayed there splashing each other, smiling and laughing for what seemed like forever. We eventually came out of the water and to my surprise, as we left the pond, our clothes slowly began to dry themselves. I didn't think too much of it, I was having way too much fun for the first time in 10 years. "There's one more place I want to visit with you Iris," as he said that, he gave out his hand for me to take it. Of course, I gladly took it. He led us once more through the forest. The sun was setting, and the place was getting darker. I admit, I was a bit nervous but my worries were soon washed away. "We're here!" he said excitedly. I looked all around and I didn't see anything. I turned back to him with a puzzled look. He laughed a bit, then told me to close my eyes. After I closed them, I heard rustling sounds coming from the area Caleb was in. After a couple of minutes, the strange noises just stopped, and then I heard Caleb. "When I give the signal open your eyes ok?" What signal was what I thought but I just gave a slight nod and waited patiently. "OPEN THEM!" he shouted. He threw a stick in the air and it landed in the grass. Suddenly, fireflies were flying around and illuminating the beautiful field of-. I held back my word. "T-these are- "my voice trailed off as I saw them. "They're irises," Caleb continued. It was a beautiful field of irises. Tears welled up in my eyes, but these were happy tears. I remember us going into the nearby forest back home so we could play in the field of irises as kids.
