It was the summer of June 6th, just five days after my 17th birthday, when things started to change for me. One minute, I had it all - the girls, the captaincy of the football team, and being the life of every party. Everyone wanted to be my friend or be with me. I even had guys expressing their feelings to me. Everywhere I went, people knew my name. Some people feared me, and in the hallways, all you could hear was "What's up, Ethan?" or "Hey, Ethan."
The girls would giggle as I passed by, and the jocks would fist-pump my hand and acknowledge me. The nerds would fear me or watch from a distance. I felt like I was the king of this school. It's ironic because this school is named after my favorite black leader, Martin Luther King Jr.
I never would have thought that my decision to go to Abandoned Island with the guys that summer would change my life forever by taking away everything I knew. That night on the Red Island, as I later learned, had secrets that I shouldn't have crossed, but because of that decision, I became The Siren and had until the next red moon to find lust, or I would be a Siren forever and be a danger to everyone I love.
But before all that, let me start from the beginning. My name is Ethan David, and I go to Martin Luther King High. I am known for being the biggest playboy and the best player and captain for my MLK football team. It was a week before summer break, and me and the boys couldn't wait for the 27th of May because me and the boys had plans to go to Abandoned Island which my parents had bought years ago. Since they had built a little condo, I thought it would be the best place to hang out and invite some girls.
I was in my last period, fantasizing about how much fun the guys and our other guests would have when I was rudely interrupted by a deep voice that belonged to Mr. Roben. He said, "Mr. David! I know it's a week before summer break, but that doesn't mean you have the right to sleep in my class!"
"Oh, come on Robinhood, let us live a little," I said mockingly as my classmate laughed in response.
"Mr. David, for the last time, my name is Roben, not Robinhood, and that joke is getting old. Secondly, you wouldn't like it if I let myself live a little because I can put an F on your work for today if you don't get your work done causing your perfect grades to go down." Oooooooo. The class replied. "You've got burned!"
"Oh, okay Mr. Roben, chill!" I said. "The last thing I want is my grade to go down when I'm so close to my vacation. My dad already doesn't want to go to the island, especially with a bunch of teenagers."
"Whatever, I will do your work and not doze off," I said, rolling my eyes and grabbing my pen.
"That's a great choice. Okay, class, turn to page 67 in your textbooks," Mr. Roben said, turning to the class.
