“What?” Is the first thing that comes to my mind.
“Yeah, sorry for yesterday. I didn't mean to spill coffee on you” Is it really him? Again?
“What?” He is looking at me weird now. “Thank you” I say while going somewhere else. This is strange. Just two coincidences I think to myself. He must be new though , I haven’t seen him on this campus before. Well, no time to think, I have to go to class and I am not gonna waste this golden opportunity.
“Who is he?” Jake, my friend, says.
“Who?” I say.
“Don’t play dumb with me. The man that gave you your project” Ahhh, I thought he was referring to someone else.
“I don’t know him, he just spilled coffee on me yesterday…” He is looking like that was a lie.
“Stop making that face, I will tell you later. For now, we have things to do. Besides, there is not much to tell” I say to him before going to class. But now that I think about it, who is he? I didn’t ask for his name but, why would I?
—---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Today turned out to be a good day. I recovered my project. Now, I don’t have to worry about that. Still, I wonder who that man is, and why I don't remember his face if I have already seen him twice. I remember his eyes but his face is kind of blurry.
“Hey Jake, how was the face of that man?” It is weird that I do not remember anything. In fact, I have a good memory.
“ Which one? The one that gave you your project.” I nod to that “Ohhh, he’s got nice features you know, blond hair, a sharp jawline, a sort of greek nose? It looked nice on him, lips that are not just a line, the only thing I do not remember is his eyes. Anyways, you have seen him twice and you don’t remember his face? Totally disappointed.” Mmmm, well I still remember the color of his eyes though. But still, why do I not remember his face? The best explanation is that I was distracted by the loss of my project and the burning to pay attention to those details.
“Anyways, what will you be doing on friday? This is the last week on campus and summer comes”
“Work, some of us do not have a rich sister that pays for everything we need.” This asshole, I just laugh at that, I know he doesn’t say it in a bad way.
“You know perfectly well I have to go to the restaurant on some occasions.”
“Two days in a month do not count.” This bitch.
“Just shut up. where will you be working then?” I ask to pay him some visits later.
“This new hotel opened some weeks ago. It seems they are doing well and will need staff for the summer.”
“Yeah, my sister told me about it. The restaurant is doing even better thanks to that.”
“Shut up, you rich asshole.” fit of laughter.
“I am not. OH, SHUT, it is late, have to go. See you tomorrow.”
“Bye, dumbass” I shoot him my middle finger at that. I forgot I had to be at home so I could pay the person that does the cleaning. I will have to get myself a car at this point. It is not that I have to walk a big distance to arrive, it is just that lately everything is more complex and requires more time.
The town is quiet today, there are some passersby looking at the windows and the new things that have arrived. It is peaceful, the weather is changing, you can feel it, it is starting to get warmer and more humid. I guess it is gonna be a good season this year. The new hotel that opened will bring more tourists and I am pretty sure the restaurant will thrive in this season. I wonder if Karla will need me there this year. We will see later.
When I arrive home the house feels different. Summer magic is spreading fast. Soft music is coming from the kitchen. I guess Sofia has not left yet.
“Good afternoon” I think she didn’t hear me when I arrived because she jumps at the sound of my voice.
“Oh my goodness Liam, you scared me” I chuckle at that.
“Sorry, I didn’t mean it. What are you doing, I thought you had finished already” is what I said.
“Details” I knew, she is a clean freak. Don’t blame her though. Sometimes, it is worse to find something done poorly than finding nothing done at all.
“I guess. You work too hard. Do you still have a lot of work though?” I ask her.
“You want me to go?” She jokes, I laugh at that.
“Not at all, you are more than welcome here and you know that. I just want to know if I have enough time to take a shower before you go.” I say to her still smiling.
“Go take a shower, you need it. I will wait” Sometimes she makes such remarks.
Taking a shower does not take me that long, and I am again in the kitchen fully changed.
“That was fast, did you really take a shower?” You see.
“Snarky comments won’t get you anywhere.” I say while laughing. “My sister left you this.” I passed her an envelope with money in it.
“Thank you, I will talk to her later.” she says while putting the envelope in her purse.
“Ok, are you leaving now?” If that is the case I will go with her.
“Yes, I have stuff to do at home”
“I will go with you. I want an Italian lemonade from a place downtown” I get up and go to the door where she is. I lock the door and walk the path to the sidewalk where she is waiting for me.
While we go, we just kind of do small talk. She tells me about what she will do in the summer and little things about her family life. Likewise, I tell her about how things are going with college and some things that have happened lately. When I arrive at the cafe I exchange some more words with her while parting ways. Then, I go inside the place. I didn't know it was going to be that crowded today. Still, I am able to give my order to someone from the staff.
Five minutes went by when I hear someone calling my name. I raise my head to see the cashier guy with my order ready. I get up, pay for the lemonade and taste it. It isn't what I asked for. It's much sweeter for a lemonade.
“Sorry, this isn't what I asked for” “This is not my order” someone else says at the same time. I twist my neck to see who might be the person who has my lemonade and find myself staring at the same eyes I saw yesterday and today’s morning. “Touche Universe” I mutter to myself.
