James in the backroom

Chapter3

Chapter3

Feb 25, 2024

Milton entered Cameron's cell the next day to find him sitting cross-legged on his bed, eyes closed and focused. "Cameron," he began gently, "today we'll be conducting a simple test to assess your abilities." He held up a small metal ball. "Can you move it with your mind?"

Cameron opened one eye to look at the object before closing it again, concentrating intently. The ball floated off the table and hovered in mid-air as Milton watched in awe. "Impressive," he murmured, his voice filled with genuine admiration. Cameron's eyes brightened with pride but then clouded over as he sensed Milton's hesitation.

"What is it?" he asked warily, sensing the unspoken doubts in the man's tone. Milton hesitated before answering honestly, "We need to understand your limits and how to contain you safely." Cameron nodded but his trust was fraying.

The tests continued for days, each one more extreme than the last as Milton pushed Cameron's powers further and further. The boy endured with gritted teeth, his mind a whirlwind of fear and determination as he fought to maintain control. But with each trial, his grip on reality slipped a little more.

"Why are you doing this?" Cameron demanded one day as he was led to an underground testing facility. "To protect humanity," Milton repeated the mantra, but Cameron's eyes were unconvinced. "You could be a hero! Why lock me up like this?" He felt a pang of guilt but held firm, reminding himself of the Foundation's mission.

"We can't risk your powers falling into the wrong hands," Milton explained, his voice strained with the weight of his decision. Cameron scoffed, "You think I don't know what you really want? Power!" He glared at Milton before turning away in defiance.

Milton watched as Cameron was led to a large chamber filled with various objects - a test of his telekinetic control. The boy focused intently, the air crackling with energy as he lifted and moved them effortlessly. But the room began to warp around him, reality bending in response to his will. Milton's heart raced as Cameron's powers grew out of control, the chamber shaking with each exertion.

Suddenly, a loud alarm blared as Cameron lost consciousness and collapsed to the floor. The Foundation personnel rushed in to secure him but it was too late - they had pushed him too far. Milton watched in horror as Cameron's body convulsed, his powers spiraling out of control and tearing apart the room around them.

As he was taken away for medical attention, Cameron's mind screamed with the pain of his own doing. He had been used and betrayed by those who promised to help him. His thoughts were a maelstrom of anger, fear, and determination as he vowed to break free from this place no matter what it took.

Milton stood in the wreckage of the testing chamber, his mind reeling from the disaster. He had underestimated Cameron's potential and paid the price
