Dr. James Milton stood before a large, unassuming metal door marked with an orange hazard symbol and the number 3567 in bold black letters. He took a deep breath, trying to steady his nerves as he reached out to activate SCP-3567 for the first time.
"Here goes nothing," he muttered under his breath before pressing a button on the control panel next to him. The door began to hum and vibrate, and James could feel an eerie energy pulsing through it as it prepared to open. He took one last look around his office, knowing that he might never return from this journey into the unknown.
The door swung open with a loud screech, revealing a dark void beyond its frame. James hesitated for only a moment before stepping forward and entering the Backrooms himself. The air was stale and heavy as he descended into the infinite corridors of this strange dimension, his heart pounding in his chest.
"James," came Anna's voice over his radio, "are you alright? Can you describe what you're seeing?" James took a deep breath and tried to compose himself as he replied, "I can see the pale yellow walls and worn carpeting that characterize the Backrooms. It feels like I'm walking into an endless maze of corridors."
"Be careful," Anna warned, her voice filled with concern. "We don't know what to expect from this place or how long you might be gone once you enter it." James nodded to himself, knowing that she was right. He had no idea what horrors awaited him in the Backrooms and couldn't afford to let his guard down for even a moment.
As he continued down the corridor, James noticed that the air grew colder with each step he took. The dim fluorescent lights flickered above him, casting an eerie glow on his surroundings as shadows danced across the walls. He could hear faint whispers and muffled screams echoing through the corridors, but no matter how hard he listened or called out for help, there was never a response.
James knew that time was of the essence if he wanted to find a way to stop or reverse the transformations caused by SCP-3567. He pressed onward into deeper parts of the Backrooms, hoping against all odds that he would be able to uncover some hidden truth about this mysterious dimension and save those who had been lost there.
As he walked further into the labyrinthine corridors, James could feel his skin beginning to tingle and itch as if something was trying to burrow its way beneath his flesh. He shook off the sensation, telling himself that it was just a product of his overactive imagination and that he needed to stay focused on finding an answer.
He rounded a corner and came face-to-face with the first victim of SCP-3567's transformations: a man in his early thirties, lying crumpled against the wall with his eyes wide open in terror. His skin was melting away from his bones, revealing tendons and muscle beneath as he let out a guttural scream that echoed through the corridor.
James knelt down beside him and tried to reassure him, "It's going to be okay," he said softly, even though he knew it was a lie. The man's eyes locked onto James for a moment before rolling back into his head as his body convulsed in agony. James could do nothing but watch as the man succumbed to the horrors of the Backrooms, his final scream fading into silence.
James stood up and continued down the corridor, determined not to let this victim's fate be in vain.
