Voracity's End [Eng Novel]

Longing pt 6

Longing pt 6

Feb 27, 2023

Hours later, the children lay in the living room where Mitsuru was watching television. Daiki was sitting next to the blond while Masaru was sitting on a couch separate from them.

While the blue-eyed one was watching television, Daiki was looking at Masaru out of the corner of his eye, a gesture that made Masaru look incredulous. Was he about to say something? However, the black haired's attention soon diverted towards Daitaro who had come out from his room. His eyes seemed swollen, detail that made him kneel on the sofa and address him with worry.

"Daitaro, hey! Are you...?" He wasn't able to finish his question, since Daitaro had then brisk walked to the bathroom. Daiki looked at this really confused. What was that about?

Looking at the redhead's reaction, Masaru figured that it most likely had been because he did not want Daiki to listen, so... Could it be his 'not dad' had cancelled? Oh... What could have happened? He hoped his uncle had a good reason, but seeing his brother so disappointed definitely saddened him.

“Okay, speak,” Mitsuru said as he turned off the television and looked at his brothers. “There has been an uncomfortable silence for some time now. I waited for  you two to say something but as I assumed, you were waiting for Daitaro to go take a shower,” he commented as he heard the shower.

“It's nothing, I had come up with a plan but Masaru ruined it” Daiki said with a shrug.

“Daiki, you haven’t calmed down? I thought you’d forgotten about it”

“I'm not upset but I'm not going to forget the stupid crap you said in the morning.”

“Stop talking around what you know…, what was the plan?”

“That we were going to do graffiti when Daitaro fell asleep”

“Oh!” Mitsuru's expression brightened upon hearing that. “Which house do you want to mark? I vote for one that belongs to the kids at school!”

“I said I ‘had’, that is, that plan is already dead,” the redhead replied with his arms crossed.

"What? Why…?"

"Why do you think?" Daiki questioned as he looked towards Masaru.

“Daiki, forget that already! We are minors anyway so we can’t buy spray!”

“As if that matters when you talk to anyone with ease,” Mitsuru commented. “You know well that if you wanted a spray, no matter what, you would get it unfairly quickly.”

“There is nothing unfair about getting things just for asking for them. Have you not heard the saying that goes ‘he who doesn’t talk, god won’t hear’?”

“The point is, that's no excuse! Getting the spray is no problem for you!”

“You don't even know what happened! Don’t act like you know!”

“I don't need to know exactly what happened when it's obvious that you're a chicken who didn't want to graffiti on a house!”

“Hey, keep your voices down or Daitaro will rush his shower or leave the bathroom half finished,” sighed Daiki, who found it difficult to get involved in the discussions between the two of them.

“You know well that I have no problem graffitiing houses!” Masaru exclaimed in a lower tone than he was using before.

“Yeah right, then why did you refuse to get the spray, you fool?!”

“I would have explained it if you had asked me but since you know everything…”

“Of course I know, you probably came up with some stupid excuse!”

“Can you tell why you are angry when you only heard me say that they don't sell us spray because we are minors?”

“Because you’re a party pooper!”

“Says the one who always wants to be locked up playing with his console. Do you know how much time you waste just doing that?” The black-haired answered as he crossed his arms.

“Says the boy who walks around like an idiot helping everyone as if that were less of a waste of time than mine,” said Mitsuru mockingly. “Do you think all those people you meet remember you? What's the point of helping all those strangers? Are you that bored?”

Daiki went from being angry to not understanding what he was hearing. Why were they fighting over something that had nothing to do with the subject at hand?

“Hey…, that's beside the point,” said the redhead.

“Good grief, how childish are you? Not surprising coming from the baby of the house…” the green eyed murmured as he rolled his eyes.

“Sure, keep rolling your eyes, you might eventually find a brain.”

“Stop!” Daiki exclaimed, completely fed up. “I'm not interested in listening to your mindless arguing!”

Both Masaru and Mitsuru turned to look at him at the tone used by the redhead.

“I don't even want to fight with this idiot, but it doesn't cost him anything to start barking at me,” Masaru replied. Mitsuru just frowned with irritation.

“He's right, Mitsuru, control yourself,” Daiki added.

“I thought you were mad at him for ruining your graffiti plans.”

“Yea, I am,” he answered as he extended his hands at the level of his shoulders. “But hearing you two fight out of nowhere makes my head hurt. I will have to be the one to lead the conversation if you don't know how to talk to each other."

“I would appreciate it, since this moron won't let me talk,” Masaru commented. The blond just stuck out his tongue.

“Well, this is what happened. I accompanied Masaru to help the old woman cross the street, who gave him a bill as thanks. After he made me wait for him to finish attending to what he saw going on around him, we saw graffiti on the wall and I suggested that we should go out at night to scratch the house of one of the children at school. ”

"Yeah…?" The blond murmured, urging the other to continue his explanation.

“We didn't have any money since you two kept the money, so I suggested to Masaru that we use the bill that the old woman gave him.”

“Sounds reasonable,” Mitsuru replied, nodding. Masaru simply sighed knowing where he was going with that.

“I didn't want to buy the spray with the old lady's money,” Masaru concluded. His blue-eyed brother looked at him as if he were seeing a ghost.

"What…?"

“What you heard, deaf,” answered the green eyed. The blond narrowed his eyes, not believing what he had heard.

“I don't understand... What does not using the money have to do with the fact that the old lady gave it to you?”

“The lady gave me that bill because I helped her cross the street. I doubt she wants me to use her money to go scratch someone's house.”

“...But that money is not hers, it is yours…”

“She's still the one who gave it to me,” Masaru answered with annoyance. Why did Daiki and Mitsuru have to think the same about this?

“But it's not like you're going to see that lady again..., do you really think she remembers you? Do you help people to be remembered?

“Don't be an idiot, I only helped her cross for the sake of helping her, I don't care if she forgets about me or not.”

“Then why…?”

“I told Daiki that we could do that when we could buy it using another bill, that's all” Masaru explained. “As silly as you think it is, I didn't feel okay spending the money she gave me on that.”

“But if you still buy the spray… aren't you being hypocritical? It could have been her money or yours, but you keep doing what the woman wouldn't like,” Mitsuru explained. “Do I need to dumb it down for you?”

“…” Masaru sighed. He really didn’t like arguing, couldn't he just hit him? He was strongly considering it and was having a hard time not giving in to the impulse.

“What? Did the cat get your tongue? You know I'm right, fool."

“I would explain things to you but I'm allergic to your stupidity.”

“Well… what the idiot says is true, no matter what bill you use, you are still doing graffiti.”

“Are you really going to tell me that you now care if what I do is hypocritical or not? You two just want to do graffiti” questioned the black-haired. “I don't care if I'm a hypocrite, I wouldn't use something you give me to do what you hate. I would use something else but not what you gave me, otherwise I would look like I did it out of spite”

“And now because of your lack of common sense we won’t do graffiti anymore”

“You are the one who has no common sense! Also, why do you want to do graffiti? You're just going to draw a di-”

“Can I know what you’re talking about?” asked a familiar voice.

Masaru and Daiki turned to look at him not knowing what to say, while Mitsuru proceeded to explain.

“It's nothing, just Masaru being a party pooper. We could have done graffiti if it weren't for the fact that he is just a fool."

“Oh, so you wanted to go out and do graffiti.”

After a couple of seconds, the blond remained silent before looking at Daitaro, who was in front of them wearing his black t-shirt pajamas and red shorts. He had the same expression as that of a father who had caught his children planning to do mischief.

Daitaro remained silent, a silence that became very uncomfortable the longer it continued, he then looked at Daiki.

“What is the meaning of this?”

“Uh…” Daiki looked away. “How much did you listen?”

“Enough to know that these two had already lasted a long time without fighting,” the redhead let out a sigh. “Were you really planning to go out just now? Tomorrow we have school, if you all don't go to sleep early you won't want to get up."

“I don't like getting up to go to school anyway,” Mitsuru replied.

“And the worst thing is that you wanted to leave secretly…” the redhead held his forehead with his fingers and pressed his digits lightly, expressing slight annoyance. “Well, I'll pretend I didn't hear that since you don't have anything to do graffiti with anyway.”

"What? So you’ll let it go?” the blond asked as he looked at Daitaro, who had looked at him out of the corner of his eye for a moment before avoiding his gaze as he usually did when their eyes met.

“What surprises me, especially about you, Mitsuru, is that you don't understand or respect that Masaru doesn't want to do something.”

“...Only because the reason is foolish!” he exclaimed instants after managing to 'not care' about before.

“It may be foolish for you but not for him. For me, it's foolish that it bothers you to talk to the neighbor for two seconds, but I have to respect what you don't like, right?"

“Yes, but…, he said he would do it anyway by using another bill, that’s not…”

“What's so strange about that? Suppose we feel like burning something, for this, I have a gift that you gave me that is perfect for me to burn at that moment; However, I have things at home that I consider trash that I could burn instead. How would you feel if I decided to use the gift you gave me to burn it?”

The children felt a little intimidated upon hearing him. It's not that he was speaking angrily, in fact, he was smiling, but… It was clearly a scolding for them.

“Daitaro… I…” Mitsuru muttered, not quite knowing what to say.

“So, am I a hypocrite if I prefer to burn trash instead of burning your gift?”

"No…"

“Hey… It's not that big of a deal…” said Masaru. “It's true that Mitsuru and Daiki got on my nerves with that, but I didn't take it personally.”

“I know you didn't, but I did,” said the redhead. Both Daiki and Mitsuru tensed up. “I don't like it when it's two against one, and even less when one doesn't use his head just because the other is present.”

“…” Daiki fell silent upon hearing that. He looked away speechless.

“In any case, we better go to sleep.”

“Daitaro, I want to do graffiti too” at the comment, Daitaro looked at him with curiosity.

"I know"

“Aren't you going to scold me for wanting to go out and scratch a house?”

“I would, but they're bugging you about something else,” he responded with a genuinely affectionate expression. “I agree with you, and I think you were right not to use that woman's money to do something bad.”

“...Since when do you care about that, tch,” Mitsuru said through clenched teeth. Daitaro turned to look at him with half-closed eyes, a look which the blue-eyed avoided.

"What did you say?"

"Nothing"

“That’s what I thought,” Daitaro answered before turning in the direction of the room they shared. “Don't take too long”

“I plan to buy graffiti another time!” Masaru exclaimed as Daitaro walked away. Daiki and Mitsuru didn't understand why Masaru was going out of his way to provoke the other.

Daitaro paused for a moment before turning to look at him.

“If you plan on going to one of the graffiti walls, let me know, I'm interested in seeing what you draw!” stated the long haired.

"What…? No! I plan to scratch a house too!”

“Sure, I expect you to clean it afterwards,” the red-eyed one added with no reaction in particular. "Good night!"

After he left, Daiki and Mitsuru felt like they could breathe again.

“I don't understand, why doesn't he get angry the same way?...” Masaru asked himself.

“Because he knows that if someone asked you to clean up the graffiti you would do it,” Mitsuru replied. “That’s what you get for being a goody two shoes”

“Ugh…, but…”

“Let's just forget it, I doubt he'll bring it up again,” said Daiki. He was a little dismayed to feel the disappointment of his twin, but... It's not like this was the first time they had planned to go out secretly...

“Yes, although that was scary… Hey fool, can we know what’s your deal with you trying to provoke him?” Mitsuru asked.

“Look who's talking, you're always trying to figure out what to do to make him angry,” Masaru replied.

“Hey, don't start, Daitaro is going to come back if you continue…”

“I'll get that graffiti spray and scratch up one of those kids' houses,” the green-eyed declared with determination.

“Cleaning their house afterwards defeats the whole purpose though…” Mitsuru commented.

"I know. “I won’t clean the house!”

“Earning Daitaro's fury is not a prize, Masaru,” said Daiki. “Let's go to sleep,” the boy added, looking slightly dejected.

“Easy for you to say when I sleep next to him!” Mitsuru answered as he went after the redhead.

Masaru stood still while he thought about what happened. Imagining his brother smiling at him in different affectionate ways, the black-haired lightly squeezed his hair.

“When was the last time he got mad at me…?”
