Skye woke up in a daze and glanced over at the clock. 7pm, it read, in bright pink letters. She sat up in her bed, trying to recollect herself and remember everything..until she noticed a sticky note on her snout.
“Hey Skye! You passed out, so I put you to bed so you can rest for a little while. Feel free to go see the Captain when you’re ready, and we’ll all be at dinner soon, so you’ll get a proper introduction to everyone there too! Signed, Tommy.”
The angel dragon softly laughed as she read the note, sticking it on the wall as she got out of her bed. She’d make her way up steadily, not really seeing anyone around, until she spotted the door that would lead to the room where the Captain would be at the helm. Skye took a deep breath as she opened the door, and upon doing so, she’d see a tall, male red furred angel dragon with black ears and green hair. He was wearing goggles, and a purple zig-zag patterned poncho, with a star insignia patched on to it.
His ears perked up as she stepped in. He looked her in the eyes with a kind and welcoming expression as he shook her hand.
“I’m Captain Carter Lupus. And you must be Skye. It’s a pleasure to meet you.”
Skye was caught off guard a little bit by his welcoming nature, but relaxed herself as she shook his hand.
“I-It’s..nice to meet you too, Carter. I..hope you’re not bothered by the fact I snuck on board…”
Carter shook his head.
“Not at all. In fact, I’m glad to have another adventure-seeker aboard. We’re always happy to have some new company on our journeys, and I’m sure that with you around, things will be a little more lively around here. You have nothin’ to worry about, you’re safe here, and as long as you don’t try to steer the ship the wrong way, then you won’t have to worry about me being mad at you for any reason.”
He’d say in a hearty but friendly laugh.
“I’m not the kind of captain that’d lose his mind over the smallest thing going wrong.”
Skye rubbed her arm in a sheepish laugh.
“W-Well..rest assured I at least won’t bother touching the helm.”
Carter nodded, smiling at her.
“Good to hear. That being said, I should probably give you a tour of the ship now that you’re here. We have much to offer, so don’t get too overwhelmed now!”
He’d say as he took a sip of his coffee he had nearby.
“Ya ready?”
Skye gave him a soft smile.
Carter immediately took that as a yes, as he gestures her to follow him to start the tour. As they made their way around, Skye would learn that The Pelican was a very advanced airship, with all sorts of unique features; A combined kitchen and dining area where the crew goes for dinner, the sleeping quarters and cabins where she was before, a training room with a weapon rack where Skye sees the blades and other various magical weapons that the crew carries, but also regular things like shields, and spears. He even shows her the ship's bar, where they often drink in the evening. Carter shows her all the different features, and Skye finds that overall, the ship is quite homely, despite its size.
As he guided her back to the helm where they started, Skye spoke.
"S-So..um..that crafting room stuck out to me.."
Carter titled his head out of curiosity.
“Oh? Well, the crafting room is where Lilly, our technician and communicator, works when she’s not busy with her normal duties. She makes a lot of the things you see, like the weapons, armor, accessories, and, hell, even a lot of our crew members’ clothing; so, if you ever wanted something custom made, she’s definitely your gal.”
Skye nodded her head.
“I’ll..keep that in mind. I actually..know how to sew stuff myself.”
“That so? I think you and her would get along quite swimmingly, and I’m sure she’d love a little help as well since she does so much herself.”
Carter would say, smiling at her.
“Anything else you want to know about this ship and its crew? We’re very big on communicating, and I’m sure you’ve got many questions that you want to ask, especially being surrounded by our crazy and diverse crew.”
Skye shifted her eyes away for a minute before looking back at him.
“Well..a…lot. B-But..I think I can wait until dinner time for that.”
Carter chuckled.
“That’s fair.”
He’d suddenly hear his stopwatch go off.
“Oh. Speaking of. C’mon, it’s dinner time, and, well, you know the way to the dining room now! We have great food and it’s a perfect chance to get to know your new family better.”
As he walked forward, he glanced back at her and winked.
As a means to escape from her past, a young dragon named Skye stows away on the only place she knows people won't find her: An airship called The Pelican, owned by a famous team of adventurers called the Horizon Flyers. Fortunately, Tommy, the steward of the airship, ends up finding her hiding away in the the storage compartment of the airship. She braces for the worst, only to be caught off by his kind attitude, and provides her a place to stay instead of hiding away from everyone.
Over time, Skye befriends the rest of the crew, eventually allowing herself to bond with them over their mutual love for adventure, exploration, and each other's company. She now seeks a better and brighter future for herself, far away from the place she once used to call home.
Short story I wanted to write. Will only be 10 chapters long.
