That was our promise

Until death do us part

That was our vow

We promised to stay together

Promised to hold onto each other

Promised to walk side-by-side

On this road called life

But you went ahead and left me behind

My love

Why did you leave me here alone?

Why did you go someplace far?

Somewhere I can no longer reach you?

Why didn’t you take me with you?

I hated the Universe

It knew how much you meant to me

I hated God

He took you away from me

I hated them when they said to forget

I hated them when they said to move on

I hated everyone

Every time I took that knife and aggressively marked my skin

I was saved

Every time I jumped from that rooftop, or that balcony, or even that stairway

I was saved

Every time I drifted farther and farther, deeper and deeper into the water

I was saved

Every time I tried to join you

I was saved

Why didn’t you want me with you?

Why didn’t you let the reaper take me to you?

My heart yearns for your touch

It craves your  smile

It misses your gaze

My heart is torn into a million different pieces

And only you know how to put it back together
