Elen’s mouth simply didn’t shut down. She was talking all the time. About her school, the boy she liked, the other one who was pissing her and the new clothes collection in the shop. She simply skipped from one topic to another barely taking a break to catch some air. At some point it became fascinating to Arlo how one person can talk all the time.
“This is it, this is the best shop here. I will show you the latest collection. It’s so cool.” Elen pulled Jenny behind and Arlo simply just followed.
“Look Jenny, this would look great on you.” Elen pointed at a skirt with two zips. Jenny’s blue eyes brightened immediately.
“I’m sorry Jen but you know we can’t buy it now.” Arlo whispered quietly into her ear.
Janny gave him a hateful look.
“I’m not sure.” She said to Elen. “I think it would look better on you.” She smiled but there was sadness in her look.
“Oh, you think? Arlo, look at this sweatshirt with a teddy. It’s almost as cute as you!” She lifted a pink sweatshirt with a teddy’s head on it. Arlo was sure she was mocking him yet he decided to play along to cheer up his sister.
“You think so? “ Arlo grabbed the item and tried it on.
“How do I look sis?” He smiled while Jenny burst into laughter.
“You look adorable.” A manly voice interrupted the scene. Arlo looked to the side and noticed a group of three boys. They might be of his age or older. The tall one with short brown hair and green eyes flashed a smile at Arlo.
Arlo immediately blushed at this awkward situation.
“Well I think I need to reconsider it. I guess I’m sending the wrong information to the world.” Arlo smiled and took it off. They left the shop with the skirt that Elen purchased followed by a pair of curious green eyes.
The park was full of people and it took a while till the kids found their parents.
They were sitting next to a grill stand. In the middle there was a big stage where a group of children was performing a popular song.
“Did you have fun?” Mom asked Arlo and Jenny.
“We did.” Arlo responded quickly.
“Jenny, I need to introduce you to some of my friends.” Elen was already pulling Jenny behind her. “Arlo, come with us!”
The mentioned group of friends consisted of three girls and two boys. One of them couldn’t take his eyes away from Jenny.
“So you are Elen’s cousin.” The girls in a pink dress asked Arlo, smiling at him.
‘Yes, I am.”
“How old are you?”
“I’m eighteen. This year I will graduate from high school.” Arlo decided to go along with the interview.
The girls keep asking him various things, blushing and giggling at times.
“Look, it’s the great three!” The black hair girl suddenly pointed at a group of boys passing them by.
Arlo looked in the pointed direction, he knew those boys. They just met in that shop.
“Why did you call them the great three?” Arlo asked.
“They are the stars in our school and the tallest in the middle is the son of the CEO. He is filthy rich and so handsome.” She answered.
“Wouldn’t be that handsome if he wasn’t that rich.” Arlo remarked.
Elen laugh.
“You are right. They are assholes, one of them made my best friend cry. He humiliated her when she confessed.” Elen pouted. Arlo couldn’t help but smile.
“They are looking at us.” The girls smiled and even waved at them. Indeed, they were looking straight at them and Arlo felt uneasy.
"Let's go back to our parents.” Arlo suggested pulling Jenny out of the conversation with the boy who was asking her for her phone number.
The picnic lasted long and Arlo was bored. At some point a middle aged man about fifty years old entered the stage and said a few greetings and encouraging words. Uncle and aunt were approached by many people who were their friends from the neighborhood or from uncle’s work. The girls were gone and Arlo took a stroll to kill the remaining time. There were stalls with different street food and drinks as well as selling some home made stuff. On the stage there was some local pop group singing and quite a few were listening and even dancing to it. Arlo noticed his sister having fun with Elen’s friends.
“Quite the affectionate brother you are, always checking your sister’s whereabouts.”
Arlo turned around, he knew that guy. It was one of those big three or something.
“Are you stalking me?” Arlo didn’t feel like talking to that guy.
“So aggressive, I’m Tod. Tod Frenwor.” He held out his hand.
“Arlo Hanny.” There was no point of denying a handshake.
Tod smiled and Arlo had to admit that he looked really good. He probably has never been called an adorable cutie.
“So did you buy that pink sweatshirt?” Tod inquired and Arlo blushed unconsciously which was irritating. The guy wanted to make fun of him.
“No, as you can see. Why, are you disappointed?” Arlo decided to hold his ground.
“A bit, it suited you fine. Are you new, I haven’t seen you around.” The boy was still smiling and not losing his composure.
“I’m visiting my cousin.” Arlo wanted to finish their conversation, but didn’t know how.
“I see. Where are you from?” Tod apparently decided to learn more about Arlo.
“Not from here.” Arlo smiled. “ I need to go now.” He bowed slightly and headed back to his family, not caring about Tod anymore.
The rest of the evening passed quickly and in the morning, after breakfast they went back home. His parents said goodbye and they left after the perfect breakfast.
Elen handed Jenny a present in the form of a skirt when nobody was looking and Jenny was grinning all the way back home. Arlo was focusing on his next week. He had a lot of work in front of him, but this time something fully unexpected has happened.
