The night was long and yet Arthur was uneasy, his mind racing with worry about what had happened to his daughter. He tossed and turned in his bed, but he could not bear the thought of not checking in on her at the villa next door. He rose quickly and grabbed his robe, wrapping it around himself. Before he could turn the doorknob, there was a knock at the door.
“Papa, are you still awake?” Llyr is the one that knocks his door. Papa I’m going in now?’ Llyr opens the door and steps inside his father’s room. He looked at his father knitting his brows.
“Father, it is late. Why have you not yet retired? Are you going to take a walk on the lanai? Would you like me to accompany you?” Llyr knew that his father was troubled about his sister.
“I simply require some fresh air, and yes, I am unable to sleep. I am concerned about your sister for failing to inform us that she was not feeling well sooner. How could I be called a father if I did not even bother to inquire about her well-being?”
“So it is,” Arthur said in a brittle voice. Llyr felt the same way as his father, yet all things had already happened. He patted his father’s shoulder and pulled a smile onto his face, an attempt to lighten the ambience.
“We must trust her father’s words. Perhaps she truly enjoyed our companionship the other day and feels anxious about today, which is why she collapsed. The doctor is correct as well. She has not been getting enough rest recently. What are we to do now that you are concerned about Franzlie? I believe we may visit her at her villa even at this hour.”
Llyr spoke in a calm and reassuring tone, which eased the worry of his father. The old man’s countenance brightened, and he took a step toward the door, followed by Llyr.
“Papa we should bring something, the maid prepares spicy seafood soup for Franzlie. Please wait for me here. I'm just going to take it to the kitchen.”
Going to the kitchen, Llyr bumped into his siblings having a late night snack.
“Hey, Llyr it’s late, are you hungry too?”
Xanth asked while digging a big bite on the chicken on his plate. Llyr shakes his head in response. He walked straight to the cupboard and took a soup canister, and a bowl. He scoops a few full spoons of soup and transfers it to the canister and he puts it in the microwave and heats it. In a few moments, it’s done. He pulls out a drawer for the cutleries and picks up a soup spoon and a small ladle.
“Hey, where are you taking that spicy soup wait, that's Franzlie comfort food, she loved it. Are you going to visit her?”
Xanth asked persistently to Llyr while Llyr headed back to where his father was. Yet, Xanth followed his brother leaving the plate of chicken on the table. He fishes out his phone and signals his siblings that Llyr is going to bring food for Franzlie. In a matter of seconds, they are all gathered beside their father.
“Papa, can you take us to visit our sister? We really can’t sleep thinking about her.”
The siblings look like children to their father. Arthur nods his head and walks out of the house. In minutes they have reached the door of Franzlie villa. All the lights are still open and they are hoping that Drystan is still around this time of the night. Rhory steps forward and knocks at the door. He waits for a minute and knocks again. Achlys had seen Drystan walking at the doorstep to open the door for them.
“Good evening, we know it’s late but Papa can’t sleep that’s why we are here. He would like to see Franzlie again. He is very much worried about her. We hope you can spare some time for us to see her.”
Achlys said in a very polite way. Drystan opens the door and lets them in.
“Drystan, please give this to my sister. This is her favorite comfort food, spicy seafood soup.” Llyr gives the canister to Drystan while explaining nicely to him.
Drystan took the container and replied, "Thank you for the soup, but she is still asleep in her room. I have not been able to sleep either, for I am anxious about what happened to her earlier. I cannot even send my mother back to our house, for she is still unconscious, and I can only imagine what is going on in her mind."
With a quavering voice, Drystan combed his hair with his hand to hide his tears. His devastation was felt by his father-in-law and the rest of the family.
"I am at a loss as to what I will do if she does not survive. I have just discovered the love of my life, and she is lying here unconscious. Our lives are just beginning, and I can feel the heartbreak of losing her."
Drystan wept as he looked at his father-in-law. Arthur felt the weight of the grief that Drystan felt. He knew that Drystan truly loved his daughter. He could see the pain in his eyes. Arthur was also filled with sorrow.
“I know how you feel that’s why we are here for the both of you. We are going to do everything we can to help you get through this. I know that you like her a lot. I can see that in your eyes the moment that we bumped at your diner. She’s tough, believe me she will get better soon.”
Arthur consoles Drystan as it breaks down in front of them. He pats his shoulder and lets him know that he is not alone. He looks at his son-in-law with a saddened expression. Arthur is wondering how he will be able to live without his daughter. He feels that he will lose his daughter and the love of his life.
