Five months after this event, the year was finally over, and with that, a big party was held in the center of the village.
Food, drinks, and everything produced during the year were there, in addition to the locals, of course.
I also met a child who was my age, in the future, I will probably meet her. Her parents said her name is Katerine, her parents are demihumans just like her. They have cat ears, I've never seen one up close...
During Janusphere, the first month of the year, I finally turned my first year old on the 21st!
Summer is more intense than ever, the sun shines brightly, and the heat is both suffocating and pleasurable.
During this summer period, I have been drinking a lot of water, mainly because I train my magic away from home.
Speaking of magic, in that time of 5 months, I managed to increase my mana, and now I can cast up to three spells in one day.
Meanwhile, William can cast 5 or 6 spells a day, depending on the complexity of the spell.
I have been improving my control with Forest Magic and Earth Magic.
Before, I could only make the plants around me grow, now I can control them at will.
I'm also trying to make sure I can control the roots of the plants so I can get a really powerful attack.
With Earth Magic it is already something different.
I've been practicing a magic that consists of making earth spikes that shoot at high speed.
Previously, I had already managed to make the spikes, but now I want to make them spin and shoot like a shot!
The part of making a thorn is easy, as there is dirt everywhere, the hardest part is getting the earth to harden and make it spin.
Not to mention, I still need to shoot.
My mana control is still not so refined that I can do all of this at the same time, so I'm doing one thing at a time.
First I create the thorn, then I change its structure to make it denser, making the thorn more resistant.
After that, I start to rotate the thorn.
After all that, I finally release it.
The process is time-consuming to use in a battle, I need to do all the steps faster.
Three months have passed since then, and my brother finally turned 2 years old, and with that, he started attending the school we went to when we discovered our magic.
"Light, get ready, today we're going to the kingdom." My mom talks from afar while I read some books sitting on the office floor.
"Where will we go?" I ask as I pick myself up from the floor.
"Let's go to Legorio. I want to buy you a present!" She says.
William crosses the hall, yawning. It's still morning, and he doesn't usually wake up early on weekends.
I put on more presentable clothes.
A beige shirt with buttons near the collar, and plain brown pants.
William dresses similarly, but his pants are a coffee color.
My mother dresses in a red overcoat with a white button-up white shirt underneath. She wears black pants with leather boots.
In this way, I, my brother, and my mother went to the Kingdom of Legorio, which is close to our village.
Arriving in the kingdom, we see the great walls protected by knights who keeping watching over the great entrance.
"What are we doing here, mother?" William asks as we walk through the streets.
"You'll see when I show you." She says with an encouraging smile.
Carts pass through the middle of the streets, people walk from one side to the other, looking for their own destiny.
Some bakeries are starting to fill up with customers waiting for their breakfasts.
Hotels and inns are opening as adventurers slowly enter them.
The sun is shining, and the weather is mild. There are few clouds in the sky that I can see.
"We're here." Hera says as we stand in front of a store.
"The Home of Magic"—that's what the sign above the establishment's door says.
A store made of wood, with a large glass panel that shows the inside of the store.
"Today, you will choose your magic wands!" Hera says excitedly.
Magical wands and staffs serve as a way to amplify magic.
Using a wand, the mana cost is lower, but the mana control is more limited because controlling it with your hands gives you much more freedom to create a spell at your will.
With a wand, the magic is limited to the tip of it, unless you use Controlled Magic, then it would be an advantage to use a wand.
Entering the establishment, at first glance, the store is quite narrow, with a high ceiling and a gigantic wooden bookcase that goes up to the ceiling on my left.
The bookcase contains several magical artifacts. Rings, daggers, glass jars with insects, and orbs of different colors.
To my left is a wide L-shaped counter that stretches to the end of the store and turns to the left. Behind this counter, there is another huge shelf with different objects.
At the end of the store, an old dwarf man is sitting reading books.
He has a long white beard that is very striking.
He has a convex and pointed nose.
His hair is white, but there is little of it since he is bald.
The glasses on his face are round and appear to have a high prescription.
"Oh, my first customers of the day! How can I help you?" He says in a thin and husky voice, typical of an old man.
"Hello, sir. I wanted to buy two wands for these boys here." Hera says with a smile as we approach.
The gentleman looks at us for a moment.
"At that age will they already have a wand?" He asks as he gets up from the bench.
"Yes..." My mom says with a forced smile.
"I have different types of wands here. I already told you beforehand, all wands are practically the same, the only difference between them is their beauty and resistence." He says as he takes a ladder at the end of the store.
"We want the cheapest one available, if possible." Hera says.
Living in a village where everyone supports themselves with their own work does not give you great economic opportunities.
"I understood." The man places the ladder against the bookshelf and begins to climb.
He wears a brown leather vest with a white shirt underneath. He wears brown pants with a black belt fastening them.
On his feet, he wears black leather boots.
After he goes upstairs, he takes out a small box.
He comes down the stairs, takes his stool, climbs on it, and places the box on the counter.
Upon opening the box, several wands are inside.
The wands are made of a dark wood.
There are several wooden branches that intertwine with each other, forming a wand-like appearance.
"These ones are costing one gold coin." The owner says.
"Could be those!" Hera says.
After paying, we left the store with the wand in hand.
"I know these aren't the wands you wanted, but I swear it was a gift from the heart." Hera says with a little sadness. "When your father and I save more money, we will buy the wand you choose!" She complements trying to cheer up.
William doesn't seem to know much about wands, so I don't think he cares, but I had already read about the subject.
Clearly our family can't afford to buy expensive things.
I would say that we can't even buy things that are cheap.
"Relax, mom. When I grow up, I'll be able to buy everything you ask for!" I say, trying to cheer her up a bit.
It's not a matter of being poor, it's a matter of not needing to buy anything.
In the village, we have everything we need. Clothes, food, and light, so things that can be bought with money are secondary.
My mom looks at me with a contented look.
"Mom, are we poor?" Bad time for William to ask, huh?
Hera looks at William with a confused face, I think she doesn't know what to say.
"Not exactly. I'd say we don't need the money."
William looks on with a perplexed look.
Returning home, I look more closely at the wand my mother gave me.
