Justin let out a frustrated sigh as they exited Alexander's office. The tension in the room had been thick enough to cut with a celestial blade. Celestine, ever the stoic warrior, remained silent beside him. He knew she was processing the information just as he was.
"That doesn't make any sense" Justin muttered, running a hand through his blonde hair.
Celestine turned to him, her icy silver eyes unwavering. "I don’t like it. I don’t remember there was a season where everyday a new dickhead was showing up"
Justin chuckled. He liked Celestine's directness, even if it lacked a certain... dramatic flair. "Indeed. And speaking of dickheads," he said, his voice dropping a notch, "did you notice how twitchy Alexander was? There's more to this story than he's letting on."
Celestine raised an eyebrow, a subtle shift in her usual impassivity. "Perhaps. But speculation will get us nowhere. We need facts."
A mischievous glint lit up Justin's eyes. "Always the pragmatist, Celestine. But facts are only the beginning. Sometimes, you need a little intuition, a sprinkle of… chaos, to truly unravel a mystery."
Celestine snapped her fingers. With a soft light engulfing them, they vanished from the Celestial’s headquarters. A moment later, they reappeared in Justin's sleek office, the familiar cityscape visible through the panoramic windows.
Celestine, unflappable as ever, adjusted her cloak, ready to delve into the investigation. Justin, however, paused for a moment, a flicker of concern crossing his features. He glanced at the holographic display that still showed the distorted footage of the fight.
"Alright, Celestine," Justin declared, his eyes gleaming with a mix of challenge and amusement. "First things first, let's call in Luccio."
Celestine raised an eyebrow, a flicker of something akin to annoyance gracing her usually stoic features. With a flick of her wrist, a holographic communication panel flickered to life. She relayed a brief command – "Call for Luccio."
Across town, Luccio, sprawled out on a luxurious lounge chair on his rooftop garden, basked in the afternoon sun. A weekend spent sipping cocktails and enjoying the uncharacteristically clear sky was exactly what he needed. The chime of his communicator interrupted his blissful reverie.
He glanced at the holographic display, a smirk playing on his lips as he recognized Celestine's stern visage. "Well, well," he drawled, his voice dripping with mock surprise. "Looks like someone missed me so much they couldn't wait until Monday."
Justin, watching the exchange unfold, couldn't help but let out a chuckle. He found their antagonistic dynamic strangely entertaining.
Celestine, her voice devoid of humor, cut through Luccio's playful facade. "Move your little ass here or I'll make you run here." The threat, delivered in a monotone, lacked warmth, but held an undeniable weight.
Luccio, despite the seriousness of the situation, couldn't resist a playful jab. "Aww darling, you wound me," he said, a hint of feigned hurt in his voice. "But you know I can't resist a damsel in distress. I'll be there in a minute."
Justin tried his best to hold his laugh. Luccio's casual dismissal of the threat, laced with a teasing endearment towards Celestine, was a testament to their unique relationship. He knew Luccio wouldn't be reckless, but wouldn't back down either.
The tension crackled in the air as Celestine shot Justin a withering look. Her eyes, sharp and cold, held a challenge.
"Perhaps you two should go on a date, you know," he managed, barely suppressing a chuckle.
Celestine crossed her arms, her face an unreadable mask. "Says the man who's married to his work." A hint of a smirk tugged at the corner of her lips, sending a flush creeping up Justin's neck.
"It's not like that," he protested, a touch defensive. "I've been on dates."
"When? The Bronze Age?" she countered in her signature neutral tone.
Justin sighed. "Alright, alright," he conceded, "I'll go on a date... someday."
"Sure, just keep telling yourself that," Celestine retorted, a knowing glint in her eye. This was a battle he knew he wouldn't win. The truth stung – romance was the furthest thing from his mind. Every attempt had been a disappointment. Women saw his wealth, his position, or the novelty of dating a half-breed. He craved genuine connection, not superficiality.
Lately, however, a new face had been swirling in his thoughts. Angelica was undeniably attractive, but it was her enigmatic aura that truly captivated him. Unlike others, she wasn't fawning over him. In fact, she was a puzzle he couldn't quite solve, and that, perhaps, was the heart of her allure. Her presence lingered in his mind long after their encounters, a welcome distraction from the monotony of work.
The holographic created by Celestine portal shimmered, spitting Luccio out with a flourish. He landed in a dramatic pose, his designer clothes somehow managing to remain impeccable. "Well, well, well," he announced, his voice booming. "Look who decided to grace us with their presence on a beautiful weekend morning… or afternoon, rather." He winked at Celestine, who didn't even bat an eyelid. “Yours Truly”
"Must you always be so… theatrical?" Celestine deadpanned.
Luccio feigned a hurt expression. "Aww, darling, you wound me! But a man has to make an entrance, wouldn't you agree, Justin?" He turned to Justin, a mischievous glint in his eyes.
Justin chuckled. "Always the showman, Luccio. Now, onto business." He gestured to the holographic display showing the glitching video of the rogue angel and the Celestial. "Alexander wants us to find out who this rogue angel was targeting, and most importantly, who this unidentified Celestial is."
“Hm” Luccio observed “I didn’t hear anything about it. How’s that possible?”
He snapped his fingers, summoning his little Ai holographic fairy "Jagna, can you do some magic here? Can you access any information regarding this incident?"
Jagna dipped her head in a polite bow. "Certainly. Accessing AiNet…" A beat of silence followed, then her tiny brow furrowed. "Most peculiar. It appears the video you've shown me has been scrubbed from all major archives. Additionally, footage from surrounding security cameras seems corrupted due to some sort of powerful energy surge."
Luccio whistled. "Never encountered an anomaly like that before. Intriguing."
Justin frowned. Things were getting more complicated by the minute. "Alright, Jagna, try something else. Look for any footage from just before the encounter on that rooftop. Maybe, just maybe, we’ll be able to find any tracks”
Jagna fluttered her wings excitedly. "On it!" A holographic screen displayed a rapid stream of data as she sifted through the digital landscape. Finally, she froze a frame. "Found something interesting. A young woman appears to be running down an alleyway just moments before the energy surge."
Luccio leaned in, zooming in on the grainy image. "Enhance that Jagna, let's see if we can recognize her."
As the image sharpened, a gasp escaped Justin's lips. "Wait… is that… "
“Our adorable baker!” Luccio gasped.
His heart hammered in his chest. He grabbed his phone and quickly called her. Voicemail. Called again. Another voicemail. His head became full of many negative thoughts “Alright…I’m going to the bakery”.
