10.5-An unforgettable sweet sixteen
Shawn's pov
The first chance I get to talk to Jasper once we're in the safety net of our home, I immediately use it to talk about the awful plan the popular gang is planning to make for our birthday.
"Wow, they want to have a party at our house for your birthday?" Jasper says shocked and I nod already hating the idea.
"It's a terrible idea," I say.
"No, it's a good idea actually, well maybe not the part about the parents but we can figure it out."
"What? Are you crazy? You want to go against our dads?"
"I mean if it gives us the opportunity to have a party for our birthday, then yeah, I do.'' I look at Jasper in utter disbelief.
"I can't believe you agree to that horrible idea."
"Oh come on, we never get to have fun and they're right, it's our sweet sixteen, it only happens once in our life, we should live it to the fullest. If you're too scared to do it I'll find a way myself for our dads to leave."
"You sure?" I ask deeply worried.
"Yes, if it makes you feel better, you can invite Axel, I'm sure you like him." They smirk. Axel...right he doesn't know.
"Are you forcing me to say yes?"
"Pretty much yes." Jasper smiles goofily and I smile faintly.
"Deal."
"What deal?"
We both jump out of surprise as we notice our sister appear right next to us in front of the door. Crap, I forgot to close the door...
"It's nothing."
"No...it sounded more like...a deal regarding a party." She smirks to our horror.
"Alice, you didn't hear it right. We were talking about a show."
"Mm, I don't believe you, I heard from Shawn that there's gonna be a party." I curse my loud mouth.
"Don't tell our dads," Jasper says desperately.
"And why shouldn't I tell them?" She smirks knowing damn well what she's doing, the little Satan.
"Because they aren't meant to know." I try to reason but she looks at me not believing it.
"Tell you what, I won't say on you if we make a deal." Oh no, another deal?
"Sure, what do you offer?" Jasper asks.
"Don't tell our Dads that I'm sleeping at a guy's house on Friday and I don't tell on you in return." She smirks and I look at her in disbelief. Wow, I can't believe her, she's just 12...
"Deal," Jasper says.
"Ah, ah, you're missing something." She shows her hands and Jasper shakes it.
Then she leaves smirking.
"What did we just do?" I ask in disbelief.
"Sold our soul to their devil," Jasper says so seriously that I notice it's a joke so I don't laugh.
"Oh chill out, I'll figure out. Everything will be alright." Jasper tries to reassure me and I make the mistake of believing them.

I don't know how Jasper did it but they found a way to get our dads to agree to go out for the night, so this means the horrible idea of throwing a birthday at our house is happening.
Anyway, yesterday we had a great evening as we celebrated in family our birthdays and our parents surprised us by paying for our driving lessons the two of us.
Through, now I feel incredibly guilty that we're having this party behind their backs. I've never done such a thing and if my parents found out....
It's a horrible idea indeed but with everyone against me, I can't object to the idea. I wish I was confident enough to stand my point but I'm not, unfortunately...
So, I have no choice but to go along with it. I did as Jasper told me and found the courage to invite Axel even if by text but to my surprise he agreed to come. At least, having Axel there will be a bit of relief.
As planned without my agreement, our dads leave and so does Alice after dinner.
As soon as they do, I relunctely change clothes at the request. I couldn't find the heart to say no especially seeing Jasper this excited.
I've noticed that Jasper those days is weirdly not happy and with everything that they went through, I can't help but want to see them be happy even if it's not something that I enjoy.
We get downstairs and it starts to get dark rapidly as unfortunately, it's a cloudy fall evening, not the sunny ones we usually have but it doesn't matter.
Not long after, people start to arrive not in their usual uniforms but rather all dressed up
and I was shocked to see how many people there are.
Meanwhile, Jasper starts putting the music on and welcoming the guests but gets ignored, which pains my heart but I can't do anything about it because before I know it I am surrounded by others to my grand displeasure.
"Shawn! Happy birthday! Gosh, 16 is a big number!" No, it isn't but ok.
One by one I get wished happy birthday before they all start talking with others and dancing.
I almost expect Axel to arrive next but am disappointed to see it's the members of the gang that spot me and come for me.
"Shawn! Happy birthday! Look what we brought! We brought you a birthday cake!" Grace says excitedly.
"Oh, thank you." I smile uncomfortably from all the attention and the growing number of people getting in the house.
"We have to do a cheer for that too!" Tessa says excitedly and I notice in her arms a case full of beers alongside other bottles surely alcoholic drinks which makes my heart drop.
"Where's the kitchen?" Zayne asks.
"That way." I point but they bring me along with me.
Then, they put the cake on a counter and Tessa surprises everyone by putting 16 candles on the cake and lighting them up with a lighter. Where did she get that?
"Everyone is demanded in the kitchen!" Grace commands as she yells and everyone comes into the kitchen, squeezing each other to have access.
"Tonight, this party is done in honour of Shawn as today it is his sweet sixteen!" Tessa says proudly and looks at me smiling while everyone cheers loudly my name.
I almost believe her smile but as I notice Jasper, I can't help but feel horrible that I get to be celebrated but not Jasper, totally forgetting them. I feel terribly guilty but the pressure of the others forces me to snap out of my thoughts.
"Shawn, you may blow out the candles!" Grace says excitedly and before I do, I look out in the crowd hopeful to find Axel and I do.
He notices me and we make eye contact. I turn away a bit flustered and decide to look at Jasper who gives me a thumbs up and then I decide to blow out the candles imagining that Jasper is blowing them out with me. Others don't notice but it still earns more cheers as I blow them all in one shot.
I look back at Jasper and smile a bit guilty, but they reassure me by smiling back at me.
"Woo! Now let's all drink in honour of Shawn's sweet sixteen!" Tessa says as she hands out drinks alongside Zayne and Grace, then they hand me a cup and pour some unknown drink in its Through I can only look at the cup in fear.
"Come on drink up." Grace smiles devilishly and I hesitantly drink a sip as others drink theirs too, earning more cheers.
"Now the party can start!" Grace yells out.
And exactly as she says, everyone starts to go into party mode and I don't have time to react as everyone starts pushing me to dance with them.
As I dance with people I don't know, I force myself to push away my insecurities and have fun but find it hard to do so.
Through dancing eventually comes to an end as suddenly Tessa grabs my arm from the crowd.
"Come play with us at beer pong!" Upon that word, I look at the kitchen table and I am shocked to see she isn't lying, did she bring that?
"No, I'm ok," I say trying to reassure myself. I'm already starting to be tipsy, there's no way I'm playing that game.
"Oh come on, we're missing one player," Tessa begs but all of a sudden Grace appears behind me and grabs my arm.
"Don't listen to her, I want to dance with the birthday boy." Grace smirks but not before glaring at Tessa who glares back.
"Oh come on, he can dance with you later, we need another player like right now," Tessa says and out of nowhere, Zayne appears.
"Did you say you're missing a player?" He asks.
"No?" She says annoyed.
"You sure? I'm quite good at ping pong you know? We could totally win together," Zayne promises and Tessa rolls her eyes.
"Fine, you win." She leaves alongside Zayne.
A bit of pressure falls off my shoulder but I quickly get reminded of Grace.
"So that leaves only us two." Grace smiles menacingly and I shiver.
"Yeah, I don't think so." I turn around surprised to see Axel suddenly standing next to us.
I can't help but gag at how hot he is, especially with that tight white shirt underneath his big loose black jacket paired with gray skinny jeans filled with holes. Through I quickly return to reality upon hearing Grace's voice again.
"What are you doing here?" Grace says irritated.
"Oh? Sorry, I'm not allowed here?" Axel raises his eyebrows and it shuts off Grace who just glares at him.
"Then I'll be taking him instead." He puts an arm around me, shocking the both of us and Grace is about to lose it.
"Fine, have your way." She surprisingly gives up and leaves scowling.
I thought she would never leave...Gosh, Axel is my saviour tonight.
"Are you ok?" Axel asks concern and I can only stare at him in admiration.
"Um, yeah, I'm fine." I snap out of it.
"Good"
He takes out his hand around my shoulder which disappoints me but my disappointment doesn't last long.
We move into the area where a swarm of
people are dancing and Axel starts dancing slowly too.
"Is this your first party?"
"Yeah"
"Ok then, follow my step." He starts moving to the best of the music and I follow suit, slowly forgetting the others and losing myself.
We continue to have fun dancing for a little bit more but as time goes on, the alcohol I drank earlier is starting to get to be me and I start to lose a bit of sense of reality.
"Wanna take a break?"
"Yeah," I agreed despite feeling disappointed.
We leave the swarm of dancing bodies but Axel suddenly looks at the stairs and I follow his eyes. There, Grace and Jasper are talking to each other and it does not look pleasant but my drunk mind misinterprets it as Jasper getting some spotlight from Grace.
"What's wrong?" Axel turns his attention to me and he frowns.
"You don't notice anything wrong?" Axel asks in disbelief.
"No? Grace is probably just wishing Jasper happy birthday." I say a bit out of it and Axel looks at me in disbelief.
"You're drunk. Let's go get a breath of fresh air." I look at him confused but still agree.
"Mm"
Reluctantly I follow him outside in the backyard where we get greeted by chilly night air.
"How much did you drink?" Axel says dead seriously.
"Um, I don't know...2 um 3?" Axel frowns deeply not believing me but I can't help
but look at his lips as he continues to rant at me.
His lips seem so inviting...Maybe I should just...
Before I know it, I ignore his rant and I come closer, shutting him off.
"What are you doing?" He asks confused.
I stare at his eyes and then at his tantalizing lips, before I know it, I lean in and close the distance between us.
He freezes at first but eventually, he relunctky gives in as he's startled by my inniative to intensify the kiss.
Through, the special moment doesn't last long as it is broken up due to him suddenly pushing me away in alarm.
"Why..." I try to say breathless.
"Something is wrong. Everyone is running away." He looks around in alarm, completely disregarding our kiss and I feel a bit hurt until I notice he's right.
"Wait...why are they running...?" I ask confused.
"Something bad must have happened, we need to get out of here." I look at him and all of this sobers me off real fast.
"We should get inside and see what's going on."
We rapidly get in the house crossing lots of people running away freaking out.
We look around for anything out of sorts but we quickly realize the problem must be outside.
We go outside together and it's there we notice the culprits, my dads looking furious at us.
"What's going on here?!" My dad Garrett says furious and immediately I freeze and so does Jasper who was already there.
Oh no...what are they doing here?! Did Alice tell them?! Ugh, I knew it was a bad idea...
