Jonas felt satisfied and happy with the evening they had spent on his birthday. He was glad that all of his friends could be there. He was worried that Tyler wouldn't be able to make it, since he had a date every two weeks, so Jonas was relieved when Tyler said that he was able to reschedule, and that he would be able to attend.
He didn't know exactly what dates Tyler had every two weeks, nevertheless he never pushed it, he knew very well that each had their own secrets, and just because they had been best friends for almost 3 years now didn't automatically mean they knew each other's deep secrets.
He had missed Tyler, lately he hadn't been able to see each other, so seeing him again and hearing his usual teasing had made him happy. His friends had always been important to him. His parents had gone away for the weekend to leave him with his friends. As much as they enjoyed spending time with his parents, a weekend with his friends was always fun. Plus, it was his last year of high school and he wanted to make the most of the time he could still spend with his friends.
His friends were all different and atypical, and that's what he liked most about his group of friends.
Each of her friends already had career plans. Normani wanted to become a nurse because she liked to help, advise and reassure people.
Nolan wanted to become an astrophysicist, he was always impressed and curious about how the universe worked and what it was made of. He spent his days looking at documents about the universe, stars, planets.
Nathan was interested in social causes, politics, law, humanities and culture among other things. However, he was most interested in law. Defending the indefensible was something that moved him.
Sarah's dream was to work in the audiovisual and film industry. She didn't know what job to do yet, though. Movies and TV shows were really her passion. She could stay for hours watching these movies and series.
And Tetsuya wanted to become a salesman, he liked the contact with people, and wanted to advise the customers while being honest.
As for him, he was interested in psychology and psychiatry. The field of mental health had always interested him enormously since he was a child, he spent his time reading books and articles, and he loved it.
As Jonas finished washing the dishes, humming, while the others were asleep, he heard the sound of hurried footsteps. Worried, he went into the living room to see if there was a problem to see everyone sound asleep. Even though Tetsuya was talking in his sleep, Jonas moved closer in intrigue.
"Christian ties me up" whispered Tetsuya, still asleep.
Jonas, not wanting to be more traumatized than he already was, decided to walk away so as not to hear more about the dream his friend was having. Soon, Jonas noticed that he was missing a person. He was missing Tyler.
Jonas couldn't help but worry when he saw his best friend was missing. His friends sometimes called him a doting father for always being worried, and even told him he was too paranoid. Maybe Tyler had just gone to the bathroom, or even to take a shower, but his instincts told him it was something else and that he should be worried.
He tried to wait a few minutes by going back to sleep waiting for Tyler to arrive, but he never came back. Jonas decided to check on him, too worried. He went to the bathroom first, but no one answered. He checked the bread room, but no one was there. There were only two other possibilities left, his parents' room and his own.
Even though he doubted Tyler could be in his parents' room, he checked anyway, finding the room empty. With his heart pounding and his stomach in knots, Jonas knocked on his own bedroom door. With no result, he got no answer. So he slowly turned the handle, to enter. He slowly entered the room. And he found no one in the room. The scene resembled a scene from a horror movie that Nathan loved so much, it was far too quiet and dark. As he approached, he heard a faint, labored gasp. Then he saw it.
Jonah felt his heart stop. There in front of him was Tyler hiding between his desk and his bed crouched on one knee, his cheeks stained with tears, his eyes puffy and reddened. But above all, what broke his heart was the attempts not to make a sound by biting hard on his fists that were in his mouth. As if not to disturb anyone, as if he feared that someone would hear him. Tyler didn't seem to notice, concentrating on not making noise.
He had never seen Tyler like this, in fact, he had never seen him cry before. Tyler was supposed to be confident, slightly arrogant, and above all generous. He was scared at first, he imagined the worst for a moment. Maybe Tyler had hurt himself. He considered calling the paramedics or the /fire department for a moment, but decided to ask if Tyler was hurt anywhere first
"Tyler" Jonah softly called out as he knelt in front of him so as not to scare him.
He saw Tyler flinch at the call of his before he looked up and saw him. His look quickly turned into a scared look. As if it was because of Jonas. And knowing that Tyler might be afraid of him made his stomach knot. Soon, Jonas put his feelings aside and focused on Tyler.
"It's okay, Tyler, it's just me, I'm not going to hurt you," Jonas said calmly, raising his hands in peace.
Seeing that, Tyler seemed a little calmer.
"What happened? Are you hurt?" Jonas asked worriedly.
Despite the request, Tyler did not answer the question. Nor did he look him in the eye, which worried Jonah even more.
"Tyler please can you just nod your head and tell me if you are hurt, I'm getting really worried," Jonas begged.
Jonas waited a few seconds, thinking that Tyler would never answer him. He was really starting to panic when Tyler nodded weakly without meeting his eyes. It was an instant relief to Jonas to know that Tyler wasn't physically hurt. At least he wouldn't have to call 911 in the middle of the night.
He noticed that suddenly Tyler's fists were still badly bitten, and that they were bleeding and wouldn't stop shaking. And that his tears hadn't stopped, as if they couldn't stop.
Jonas, looking at all of his friend's symptoms, finally noticed that his friend was not physically injured but was suffering a panic attack. He cursed himself for not having noticed it earlier.
And knowing that his friend was trying to handle his attack alone, and seemed unwilling to ask for help, broke his heart. Seeing Tyler like this made his throat close. Nevertheless, he ignored the big lump in his throat to focus on the more important Tyler.
"Can I?" asked Jonas, gesturing toward his fists.
Getting a weak, hesitant nod, Jonas gently removed his fists from his mouth, careful not to hurt him. It pained him to see Tyler's knuckles bruised. So he quickly grabbed a tissue from his desk to gently clean Tyler's knuckles before gently wiping away the traces of tears that remained on his cheeks. Satisfied, Jonas took Tyler's trembling hands between his own as if to calm the shaking.
"Now breathe at the same time as me, 1- 2- 3, breath in, 1-2-3, breathe out," Jonas guided calmly by taking exaggerated breaths out to make Tyler understand.
As he repeated the exercise several times, Tyler was finally able to resume normal, harmonious breathing.
"You're doing great Tyler, I know you're probably tired, but can you now try to point out 5 things you can see in the room?" asked Jonah without ever letting go of his hands that were still shaking.
For some time, Jonah heard no response and feared that Tyler would shut down and not talk to him. However, after a while, a faint response came. However, Jonah had to lean over to Tyler to hear the answer.
"A table, your purple lamp, the green plant in front of your bed, the paint and the pictures hanging on the wall," Tyler murmured softly without ever meeting his eyes
"Thank you. You must be tired, we'll put you to bed, it'll be more comfortable than the floor," Jonas said as he helped Tyler up. Tyler didn't seem to want to talk, so he didn't wait for answers or try to force him to talk. He didn't want to force him to formulate specific answers or do things that would only make his anxiety worse. This was all going to be very confusing and tiring for Tyler. He didn't want to upset him further, or worse, hurt him
By putting Tyler in his bed, for him, it was out of the question to leave Tyler in this state alone. That's why he settled in the bed next to Jonas. But =as he saw Tyler's hands continue to shake violently and his tears continue to flow despite his normal breathing. A panic attack always took a long time to subside. And Jonah couldn't stop the violent desire to console, and ease the suffering of his best friend.
He had read as a way to help the person suffering from a panic attack (it depends on your relationship with that person, if it is a close relative or your love partner) was to hug them.
Determined to soothe and comfort his friend, without even thinking further he approached Tyler to wrap his arms around Tyler's waist from behind which had the effect of tensing Tyler. He took the opportunity to intertwine his fingers with Tyler's to keep them from shaking more, which seemed to work. And he gently put his head on Tyler's shoulder, to be able to whisper in his ear soft words of comfort and encouragement, which seemed to relax him more because after that he felt Tyler's body relaxing against his.
"I know it's hard for you right now, and I understand that you're scared, it's normal to be scared, and I'm here for you. I know it feels like it's never going to end and that it's taking forever, but it will end soon, and I'll be with you the whole time," Jonas reassured gently, not waiting for answers as he unconsciously tightened his arms around Tyler.
In an effort to distract Tyler from his panic, and to pass the time by filling the silence that had been interrupted by their shallow breathing. He began to sing a sweet song in German that his mother used to sing to him all the time when he was sick and not feeling well.
"Hallo Lieblingsmensch, Ein Riesenkompliment dafür, dass du mich so gut kennst. Bei dir kann ich ich sein, verträumt und verrückt sein..."
As he sang, he didn't immediately notice that Tyler had fallen asleep in his arms. When he noticed that Tyler was asleep and seemed more relaxed in his sleep than he was awake a few minutes ago.
He smiled as he saw Tyler finally relaxed and asleep, although his heart ached to see his best friend suffer like this. Before also joining the sleep of Morpheus.
