Winter looked at his parents drive away in the black luxury flying car. Tears streamed down his cheeks. He wanted to scream at them to take him with them, to be together as a family, but he knew that it was no use. The Seasons were known for their stubbornness. All he could do was sit patiently and wait for his grandparents to come.
20 minutes had passed since Luke and Luna’s departure and Winter was still alone in the penthouse. His eyes were feeling heavy from crying.
30 minutes had now passed and now Winter was feeling very sleepy. He slapped himself to keep himself awake; he wanted to be awake when his grandparents came. He loved them very much and they always brought small gifts for him. The last time he saw them was a few months ago and they gave Winter a small, dull, metal sword for him to swing around, trying to copy his father’s movement during his training sessions. After all, he was the general of Covedan before he switched to being a researcher. His father was a rare talent, someone who had brains and brawn, and, even rarer, someone who was humble about it and used it for the good of the world, at least that was the impression he had on his young son. In contrast to her husband, Luna was not suited for the war efforts, she just didn’t have the passion for it. She was also frequently sick in her younger days which led her to stay isolated from others for a long time. Having nothing to do during that time, she started studying numerous books and challenged herself with deep, psychological questions. Soon, Luna published her first thesis at the young age of 16 which landed her a seat at the School of Koglend, the famous school that only accepts the most talented students in the country, where she would be classmate with her future husband, Luke, who got accepted for his genius in his studies and sword fighting.
An hour passed and Winter was now in a deep sleep. He got tired from waiting for his grandparents; little did he know at that time, they would never come.
“Bzzz, bzzz, bzzz, bzzz”, the bell rang
“Knock, knock, knock”
“Bam, bam, bam, bam!”
“ OPTY, OPEN UP!”, a female voice ordered
“BAM, BAM, BAM”
“ I REPEAT, OPTY OPERATION, OPEN UP OR WE WILL DESTROY THIS DOOR”
Winter jumped awake. Confused and scared, he quickly ran to the door, but, before he could even touch the hand scanner, a powerful blast blew open the titanium door. The wind resulting from the blast was strong enough to knock back Winter into the kitchen island. His feeble young body couldn’t wistance the force caused by the knock and he vomited a splash of blood before falling unconscious.
