"Make sure to look extra pretty today. You know this is the year. Prince Kedrick chooses a bride."
"I know mama. I know."
Living in a land where marrying a divine man is every woman's goal can have it's challenges.
My father Hannan was born on the third day of Benigno.
It's a celebration that occurs for five days. We celebrate light conquering over darkness.
It believed people born on these days have been favoured by our God. They're usually born into well off families.
Anyone who marries them is blessed with eternal wealth. And my mother got herself just that. The perfect man and the perfect daughter. Born a day after Benigno's five day course.
Also a day before Erysichthon the day where the demons and everyone associated with evil celebrated their own victories so I'm in the middle. People questioned what status I was. Good or evil.
It would have been better if I was just born in another month. I have to constantly prove I'm one of the good guys and marrying Kedrick would finally make all those people know I'm good! I am the definition of light and life.
The main square was filled with girls my age trying to catch a glimpse of Kedrick.
My mother swore she'd talk to his mother for him to come see me but I tried my luck like the other girls.
I can't see a thing. I don't even see him. This isn't going as planned. I'm supposed to get married with this man!
I found myself in front of the crowd and finally saw Kedrick.
He was perfection. From his beautiful hair and his skin. Everything about him. He was perfection. That's the only word I can use to describe him.
He was incredibly kind as well. A prince loved by all. And most importantly born on the first day of Benigno.
God's ultimate favourite. He was blessed with good looks, fortune obviously he was a prince! And everyone adored him.
He was at the right age to get married and it was believed his wedding would be the greatest event of all time. It'd be documented in our history books.
He looked at crowd and smiled. His smile was bright and angelic it could bring any girl to her knees.
Why am I not feeling it then? All I'm doing is compliment him but I'm currently not feeling anything.
It doesn't matter. I must marry this boy. It looks like he's looking at me too.
Maybe he feels something. His eyes were bright shade of emerald green.
He's walking towards me! He is! "Are you okay?" He asked a girl on the ground next to me.
When did she fall? "Here let me help you." She slowly gave him her hand.
She had the most golden hair I had ever seen.
Their skin colours matched almost as if they were one of the same. "What happened?"
"I fell. I'm a little clumsy." She uttered looking down. "You fell or you were pushed out of the way?"
Kedrick said that looking at me. I point at myself then remember how I got to the front.
"Oh. Well I didn't intentionally do it. There were people behind me pushing me. I'm so sorry... Here a handkerchief."
I snatched the girl's hands away Kedrick holding them myself. I smiled and she just shyly looked down like she was afraid of me.
"Excuse me." She tries to walk but stumbles Kedrick catches her. "She can barely walk because of what you did."
"But I didn't mean to I swear." He was to focused in asking if she was okay to listen.
"Well we can't really trust the girl she's the medium."
That word. Was insult to anyone but more especially me. Since there isn't really anyone born on the day I was.
I decided to shamefully walk away since no one but the gossipers were giving me attention.
I gripped on the sides of my dress. Why did he have to care about that girl more?
This is the first time he's actually been up close to me. Don't worry Asha the day isn't over yet and I still have a lot of time to get Kedrick to fall for me.
But the day did end I was sitting at the sidelines all day Kedrick was too busy with that girl who I have learnt to be Keres.
I rolled my eyes. I don't even know what so good about her that's he's drawn to her. The dress I'm wearing is extremely expensive and I'm looking my best yet he's not paying attention to me.
This day was a waste and my mother didn't even do anything to help. I guess she tried.
I went to bed planning my master plan. Tomorrow I'd wear a not so elegant dress and be very simple like that girl.
But unfortunately I don't have Goldie locks hair. Unfortunately I have dark night hair.
It's not always a good sign. But it's not as dark.
This time I did my own makeup. When the time came it was almost like Deja Vu because I was heavily ignored yet again not even noticed today.
He was with Keres again! "Mama there are other options. I can't focus my attention to one boy."
"He is the perfect match for you. You should marry him. You have to." Well he's not looking at me at all!
Four days passed and still nothing. Some girls have concluded that the Kedrick had fallen for Keres and had given up.
I was getting there as well. So what if he's supposed to be lucky and is really handsome.
I can find someone better than him. Someone more handsome and luckier than him.
It started raining just after I said that in my head. "Mhmm? God are you saying no one is better?"
But it was clear to me who had caused the rain after everyone started scattering.
A boy clouded in darkness and misfortune. He usually stayed in his castle yes he had his own. He was exiled as young as three years old.
A boy who was also the brother of Kedrick. Blood brothers but sworn enemies.
He was supposed to look terrifying but now standing behind Kedrick who had taken a stand in front of his brother he looked kinda fine.
And his name was Anubis Arius Kek. Basically his parents gave him every name that meant darkness.
A boy with fair pale skin and hair dark as night. Is said to be the definition of evil and his bride is destined to die on their wedding day.
While a boy with tanned skin with hair brown as wood is said to be the definition of good and to be God's favoured soul.
But what happens when the two boys raised to believe the other is good and the other evil lives turn upsidedown when the demon boy finds love. True love. And his bride doesn't die.
