Anubis just stared at his brother. "Am I not allowed to?" He spoke. I was supposed to quiver in fear when I heard him talk yet I didn't.
I think my knees were the one quivering. I shake my head. Keres stood behind protected by Kedrick.
She covered her eyes quivering in fear but kept looking to see if anything interesting was happening.
"No. You're not. You're scaring people!"
"Stop yelling. I wanted to buy something. I can't really buy anything back where I am."
"You can manifest anything you want. You have dark magic."
"It's not exactly dark magic. You just not special enough to have powers like me."
"Stop the rain."
"You're not my prince." I honestly enjoy his voice.
"You! Take her to safety." Kedrick orders me. "No one is in danger." Anubis added.
"I don't believe a word you say you monster."
"I just want to buy something man. Will you let me without creating a scene?"
"No one would let you buy anything here anyway."
The stalls that were just open had been moved away immediately to be fair he did bring rain with him.
"Go. Go." I tell Keres. She looks at me with wide eyes. "You're staying? Well if you stay I will too."
I was more interested in what the two brothers were talking about than her.
The sky cleared to a foggy mess. "No rain. Will someone sell something to me now?"
"Leave Anubis." Kedrick commanded.
I felt somewhat sorry for Anubis. He just wanted to buy something.
Keres rushed to Kedrick while Anubis turned the other way towards the forest.
"Hey wait!" I called out to him. Anubis turns. I'm sure shocked at my audacity. "Hey girl what are you trying?" Kedrick asked.
"I'm only being a decent human." I was dripping wet from the rain.
And walking was a bit of a challenge. "What kind of thing did you want to buy?"
"What?" The boy looked at me confused. "You're talking to me?"
"I asked you question. Didn't I?"
I opened my purse and took out a golden comb. "This is really unique. Not every day you see a gold comb."
Anubis doesn't give an answer he just blinks confused and shocked. "You'll have to give me serious money for this."
"Huh?"
"Did you think I'll give it to you for free?"
I chuckle at his expression. I took his hand which was actually warm and handed him the comb. "You have beautiful silky hair use it wisely."
He looks at his hand. "Does this have poison or will make me have lice? Are you playing a prank on me? And he's working with you?"
He points at Kedrick who was also confused. "No. I'm not working with him." I suck my teeth and smiled again.
"Look at me do I look like a bad person? If you say yes I'll be bad. Haha just joking."
"What's your name?" He asked still looking at my comb. "Oh. I'm Asha." I grin seemingly blushing.
"How much?″
"Huh?"
"How much money for the comb?"
"You can take it for free. I'm no crook.″
"Why?"
"Because you wanted to buy something right? Have you ever seen such a comb? Now stop thinking about it and accept the gift. It's not everyday I give out gifts."
"Thank you."
I fold my arms. "Wow." I marvel in shock.
This... This incredibly vulnerable looking boy was supposed to be thee definition of evil?
The demon king himself. Bringer of death.
He and Kedrick were twin brothers while Kedrick was born on the first day of Benigno Anubis stayed in the womb for a while.
Five days to be exact. It is said to have been the most agonizing days for the queen. The doctors initially thought he'd come out as a stillborn.
It was rare having such a misfortune in a well of family. Some people believe it to be the father's ill luck. He was a medium just like me but no ever mentioned that. Because he didn't "seem" like one. He was far too perfect.
As if I'm not perfect. Anyway after five agonizing days on the first day of Erysichthon just when the rains and storms raged Anubis was born.
Pale far too pale the midwives claimed. He looked dead. The day he was born on... There wasn't any confusion in what he was.
He was destined to be the king of demons. Possibly death itself. Prophecies yes he already has prophecies made after him they believe that whoever becomes his bride will die on their wedding day.
Also just a kiss from him could kill you. I chuckle at that part. His lips look so interesting though. You're telling me they're the kiss of death?
Well I'd have died a happy girl. Not that I dream of kissing him. Where was I?
Anubis lived with his biological family for only three years. In that time many people aren't sure what exactly happened behind closed doors but the maids that have come out say the brothers' mother never breastfed Anubis.
Yet he survived. The maids were too afraid to take care of him. Everyone was of a child. He was exiled to the dark forest. Where demons are said to roam freely there a castle of darkness was.
The demons must have taken care of him. Demons care for one of their own.
Why do they sound better than humans?
Anubis disappeared from my sight without having to walk away. He used his magic. That must be some very useful power though. Having to teleport anywhere whenever.
The sun soon returns illuminating Keres' hair. I looked at sky. "What did you just do?" Kedrick raises his tone.
"What did I do?"
"You showed him kindness."
"Good people are supposed to show everyone kindness. Are they not?"
"He is destined to destroy our entire world. And you show him kindness."
"I didn't know that one. He is destined for too many things must be rough."
"Kedrick please do not yell at her. She was just showing kindness which is good. Right? She didn't do anything bad. Calm down." Keres held onto his arms.
I could barf I hate how they look so in love already it's only been four or five days.
I turn to go my own way. "Wait!"
"Yes?"
"Never do that again if you want to be considered one of us."
"Is that a threat?"
"Are you questioning my judgement? I've been favoured by God."
"And you're supposed to be good. So be good."
I'm surprised he is acting like that he's usually really kind with most people but so far he's shown me malice.
I'm not so different to be considered evil. Yet then why was I attracted to that boy? I'm supposed to be afraid of him.
If my parents or brothers ever hear of this they'd kill me. They idolize goodness and purity.
While having flaws they tend to ignore. If Kedrick was favoured by God he should show kindness to everyone, right?
Even his sworn enemy. He shouldn't judge.
Yet he seems to hate his brother. I wonder if the two ever had a relationship. They couldn't have bonded at three years only especially since I'm sure they were probably seperated.
I am sometimes glad I'm just in the middle of things. Only sometimes.
A boy with fair pale skin and hair dark as night. Is said to be the definition of evil and his bride is destined to die on their wedding day.
While a boy with tanned skin with hair brown as wood is said to be the definition of good and to be God's favoured soul.
But what happens when the two boys raised to believe the other is good and the other evil lives turn upsidedown when the demon boy finds love. True love. And his bride doesn't die.
