"You're terrible at waiting little brother. Has anyone ever told you that?"
I roll my eyes. "Yeah. You, Alden. Many times."
I return to pacing back and forth. "I just... need to know if it's me getting married or if it's Rowan."
Alden smiles sympathetically. "Yeah you guys are really young. You're 17 and Rowan's 18. Just be gratefful for the time father's not home. Oh, and there was a letter for you."
I hold out my hand expectantly. "From whom?"
He doesn't answer as he places it on my palm. Rowan.
Dear Cassius,
I believe this letter will reach you before I do. We're returning home tomorrow. I have news, whether it's good or bad is up to you. We are bothe getting married. Sir Daelyn offered only one of his daughters for marriage, Ellyn was her names, as a peace proposal. As usual father insisted that wasn't enough and demanded both of his daughters. They're twins and they look exactly the same. Gorgeous. Father says it matters not which one we wed so long as it is not the same one. Heads up, I'm taking Ellyn. I enjoyed her confident manner. Ellanor seemed more timid but quite knowledgeable. I think you'll grow to like her. Maybe not love but comraderie seems aquireable, Rowan.
My fists tremble with rage. Father is brining not one but wto ladies from their family and giving them a life of torture.
"That bastard!"
Alden turns toward me, confused by my outburst. I throw him the letter and his eyes grow dangerously dark as he reads it. I gesture at the letter and mime tearing it. He does and I completely understand the manner of ferocity in which he rips it.
"Cass. Look at me."
"I know you hate this. I do too, but I need you to promise me something."
I nod. "What?"
"Please litsen Cass."
Oh no, what does he want that required this much concern? I nod again. I'll back out if I have to.
"Okay, promise me you'll give her a chance. Ellanor I mean. please Cassius, don't divorce her. At least not immediately. Give it at least six months. Even less if she hates it, but if she ends up wanting to stay... you should allow it."
Ellanor Daelyn's life is particularly normal. Noble, rich, a kind father, a best friend for life, that is, until she and her twin sister get engaged to men they don't even know! Enter Rowan and Cassius Alistair, both good people, both with a dark past. Ellanor is set to be married to Cassius, but Ellyn has different plans.
