Raven Raptor

‘WHAT!’ I exclaimed. 

The piece of paper crumpled in my hand like well, a piece of paper would. I ran to grab my rapier and armour. 

‘Raven wait!’ William yelled after me but I was already out of the tent and sprinting away.

My face was red and my breath eluded me. A bloody mess stained the field. Skulls littered the area. There was no sign of life. The air was eerily still like the calm before a storm. I held my hand up. No breeze. There’s something wrong. I clenched my fist. Crushing the air I could feel the mana. It was mixed with an odd element too. Qi! It’s qi. What happened? Lucian wouldn’t use his magic unless it went horribly wrong. Scanning the area I saw a silhouette kneeled on the hill. I dashed over quickly. 

There Lucian was kneeled over two bodies. He had taken off his coat and covered one with it. The other body lay to the side, its face bloody and unrecognisable. I placed my hand on Lucian's shoulder.

‘Hey,’ I said softly.

He looked up at me. His face was pale and his eyes wet. No tears fell but his eyes told me everything I needed to know. I knelt down next to him and brushed the hair off Drew’s face. His silly grin was still apparent on his face. Drew’s face had never changed. We had always teased him for being baby faced. We had always teased him. We made fun of him for being not as smart, not as good at swordsmanship and being smaller. Seeing him limp and lifeless made me wish we could take it all back. I put my arm around Lucian.

‘Let’s go back now,’

‘How amusing,’ I chuckled.

How had two of them managed to die?  The idiots were hopeless without me. I tossed the crystal orb back to Arnold and pouted. 

‘What is it, master?’ he asked.

I slumped further down into my chair.

‘They’re so boring,’ I sighed, ‘I thought they’d be closer now,’

Arnold raised an eyebrow. 

‘Was this project not to overthrow the corrupt lords?’

I rolled my eyes and kicked my legs over the handrest of my chair.

‘Yes yes,’ I said, ‘But I want it to be fun,’

And I want revenge. I jumped out of my chair. The hands of my watch read 24:67. It was time.

Rows of grim faces stacked on large muscular bodies. Yes, the perfect army. Giants were amazing tools. Strong, obedient and thoughtful. The only people who had cared for me as the others tossed me aside. I grit my teeth. As soon as we had taken over and disposed of the corrupt and cruel humans we would rule an era of peace.

‘We can’t go for the next general in this state,’ Raven said as he paced the room, ‘But then again it only took two of us to subdue the first one,’

I nodded silently. Ever since that incident Lucian had been in no state to make plans so Raven had taken over as the rational older brother. He sighed. The past few days had not been easy. Lucian had gone mad and was constantly behind his desk writing down disjointed words and lines. Raven had sat down and talked to him but he didn't respond. We weren’t going to get anywhere with our small ragtag group. No matter how accomplished we were, we couldn't beat the next general. Let alone him.. I grit my teeth. It was my fault this was all happening. If only I’d stopped him back then.
