Jake had a habit of waking up early. Why? He had to do so many things. Exercise, eat healthy, and then practice.
To be a top singer, he had to keep working hard. In his opinion, there were so many talented singers. And he was just one of them. But to be the singer his fans loved, he had to keep improving himself. He had to be the best he could be.
He couldn't just stagnate. To do anything, first and foremost, you have to be at peace with yourself. How can you wage war on others if your people are committing mutiny?
Right?
So first he took care of himself. He exercised and then meditated. A good mind is the capital of revolution.
So, this particular day, he woke up and sat on the bed. He then felt weird. He chalked it up to his illusion.
But the illusion wasn't going away when he opened his eyes. What is that place?
Was he sleeping in his closet? He moved his eyes away and found that it was a room. A small bedroom. But it wasn't his. So why was he sleeping here? He tried to recall. He didn't get drunk and crash in someone else's place.
The events of the previous night flooded his mind.
He went straight home.
So, what was this then? Before going out and facing the unknown, he should see if he could contact Elsa. She would know what to do. He couldn't get photographed here. The media would have a field day.
And the company would have to do damage control.
He saw that there was a phone lying on the table beside the bed. He sighed.
This was not his room. He would never keep a phone just a few feet away from him while sleeping. At least ten feet.
He just touched it and it unlocked.
He didn't notice that in his hazy thoughts.
Miraculously the phone was not his. But he could maybe call someone.
Just as he was about to touch the phone app, a WhatsApp popup appeared and he clicked it in a slow response.
The wish fairy group
There was only one message at the top.
As you wished, your lives have been exchanged. Enjoy ;)
Jake was furious at this stupid prank. That person would be shown hell by Elsa!
He wanted to switch the app but it got stuck. Only the group chat worked.
Jake became calm. He prodded and found that there were only three people in the group.
There was someone named May and then the Wish Fairy. The Wish fairy had no private chat. So, one group chat, that's it.
Then a ppt was sent by the Wish Fairy.
Jake clicked on it.
His phone opened it slowly. What was the internet speed here?
First slide- Wish fairy presents the life swap opportunity
Second slide- live another's life and see what you are missing
Third life- Choose the life you want by yourself
Fourth slide- Give a five-star review
It was just that. But this whole bizarre thing somehow started making sense. Jake didn't believe any of it though. It felt like an elaborate prank to him. Who had the time to do this? Or maybe there was a reality show that wanted to see how celebrities live the normal life?
Jake stood up and opened the door of the apartment.
There was a person outside smoking a cigarette.
He glared at Jake.
"If you complain once more about me, I'll smoke every day before your apartment."
It's official, Jake felt that this was some alternate lunatic world.
The man huffed and went away.
Jake decided to see more and check if anyone was filming him. There was no camera crew but the new technology could be used here. Like CCTV and drones.
To his surprise, no drones were following him.
He found that the apartment was on the third floor. And the ground floor was filled with shops. Grocery, pharmacy, and even a clothes one.
"Jake, you are late on your shift. Are you sick?"
An elderly woman asked him.
"How do you know my name?"
Did she recognize him? Was he popular among the elderly too?
"Haha, you make me smile. You work for me. I have your resume. And I call you daily by your name. Haha."
Jake decided to go with the flow to see how far they would take this.
He then proceeded to work the whole early morning.
"Aw, dear, go eat your breakfast. It's now so slow. Go wash up. It's eight."
Seeing her concerned eyes, Jake felt that something was wrong. Really wrong.
He took his phone and called Elsa. He knew she would never answer an unknown phone number on the first try.
She answered on the third call.
"Hey Elsa, have you signed me on some show?"
"Who are you?" Her sharp voice answered him.
"Elsa, are you kidding me? You are on this prank too? This is not funny."
"What's not funny is that you gentleman questioning me as if you know me! If you do not stop this, I'll call the police."
She cut the call.
Jake stood still.
He needed to check.
He went back to the apartment. It was unlocked and thankfully no one robbed it.
He rummaged. He knew it was wrong but he needed information.
He found the photo album.
There he was, standing with a man and a woman he didn't know, smiling.
He found a high school diploma.
Ryan Winters
No, he is Ryan Risen. His real name.
He found college certificates, identity cards, and all the documents. They looked real.
Jake couldn't believe it.
He opened the phone and paused before opening Instagram.
There he was, on a trek with a girl he didn't know. That picture felt really weird because he was smiling. Not his singer smile but a real one.
The whole life he saw there made him believe.
He had really switched with someone.
He was not this particular person who loved designing, drawing comics, and cooking.
He realized he had taken over someone's life. He realized that the other person in the group, May was now Jake.
Jake, he became May.
At least, they didn't switch bodies. He didn't want to become a girl suddenly. Life switching seemed better than body or soul switching.
The Wish Fairy had indeed helped him by not doing that, right? He is now a normal guy without any stress. He completely did not think how May would consider this switch.
