Oscar enters the coffee shop overcome by a feeling of peace. He feels like a slight weight has been lifted from his shoulders. The intoxicating smell of cookies and books immediately soothes him. An old lady at the counter sees him and a smile appears on her lips. She has long white hair tied in a bun making her light brown eyes stand out. She is wearing a large sweater and a long skirt. Her neck and hands are filled with rocknroll style metal jewelry.
"Oh it's you, how are you? Did you like the book?"
"Hmm hm, about that. I have to admit that I didn't really read it. And I had a little problem." he shyly takes the book out of his bag. He holds it out as well as the torn page, lowering his head.
"I am deeply sorry, I promise to pay you back everything"
"My, my...don't worry about it. He was very old anyway. Besides, this page was already like that." she takes the book from his hands and puts it in a drawer under the counter.
"Are you sure? But..."
"Oh don't mind that, it happens often. Maybe it's a good thing you didn't read it, you probably wouldn't have liked it."
"May i ask why?"
"This one is so optimistic that it's almost ridiculous. Not that I have a problem with that, but managing to smile despite everything shitty that happens to you in life is simply impossible."
"I understand what you mean, I wouldn't want to have to deal with someone like that all day long"
"No, you don't get it. It's would be awesome to have someone like that. I'm just saying it's impossible. There is no one who is happy all the time. Everyone has their share of problems." she says it while carrying a box to the back of the store.
"...maybe" he whispers.
"You should choose another book but don't hang around like last time. I have to close early today. I'm going to a festival so we'll be closed all weekend." she shouts from the other room.
Oscar doesn't respond and heads towards the back of the large library where no one can see him. He picks up a random book and sits down then puts on his headphones. Just after that someone enters the store. Which makes the bell ring. He goes in the same direction as Oscar and disappears at the back of the library. The old woman comes back confused.
"Did he just leave?" she scratch the back of her head.
"Kids these days!"
Oscar raises his head completely disoriented. He must have been there for more than two hours because his playlist has gone from pop to classic. His vision is blurred, if he fell asleep outside his home it is because the last few days have taken their toll on him. He looks around trying to analyze the situation. A figure lies on the table in front of him. The person has his head down and seems to be sleeping peacefully. Something is wrong. He approaches the young man as if he was drawn by a magnet. And then, he realizes.
"ARE YOU FUCKING STALKING ME???" he puts his hand in Logan's hair and pulls on it fiercely. The poor guy wakes up in all his states, screaming in pain. Oscar looks like a demon ready to devour his prey.
"I'm sick of you. FUCK! I will definitely call the police this time."
He turns back to his bag and several things go through his head. He first thinks of his father, tells himself that he still hasn't seen the rosebush, then remembers that he has to visit him this evening. Besides, it's already very dark here. Time. What time is it? He looks at Logan then at the window through which he sees the moon. His eyes grow bigger and his heart rate accelerates. He picks up his phone and reads 8:40 p.m.
"No, no, no, no, no, no..."
Oscar rushes to the front door. He tries to open it but it is locked from the outside. He places a hand on his ear which moves frantically. He looks at his phone again and several missed calls appear on the screen and to make matters worse, it turns off before his eyes. Oscar, horrified, runs back to Logan and grabs him by the collar.
"Give me your phone, hurry!!"
"Wow, don't attack me. Firstly, I don't have it on me and secondly, do you really think I would lend it to you after what you just did to me?"
Oscar's face falls as he releases him. He grabs his own head with both hands and collapses to the ground.
"What am i going to do now? It's over for me."
Logan, caught off guard and not understanding the situation, looks at him with a concerned expression.
"What's with you? What are you talking about?"
"You really are a dumbass, huh? Can't you see we are locked here?"
He blinks stupidly, beginning to realize what Oscar means, but pulls himself together.
"Yeah it's okay don't worry. The owner will come back tomorrow. At worst, we'll spend the night here...just the two of us" he approaches him like a snake and raises his eyebrows. Oscar leers at him with disgust and pushes him away. He seems to have returned to his usual state.
"Ugh!..Stop getting on my nerves, you bastard. She won't come back until Monday."
"Are you kidding me ?"
"You think i'm like you? Tsk!"
Logan looks at the door in panic. He sits on the floor next to Oscar, his mouth wide open.
"I hate jerks" thouhgt Oscar after running away. "He is the definition himself of a jerk. I'm glad it was just a stranger and not someone from my new school. I need to make a low profile. If something happen like last time, mother will sent me to the military. I even prefer the idea of getting married early. Anyway, they will eventually know that i am no longer..."
Logan stares into space with a satisfied face. "This guy was definitly an omega. I didn't know they could be like that but i don't mind because he is totally my type. I need to find him.
In the imaginary country of Crownvale, alphas and omegas are considered like the choosen species, the legitimates rulers of the nation. Among the numerous associations of families, Oscar Walter and Logan Lane seems to be slowly brought together by fate. Will Oscar's past allow him to accept Logan's love?
