As they proceeded, Lucas unexpectedly merged with her shadow once more. “Hey, what are you doing? Why are you disappearing into my shadow again?” Elise asked, her confusion evident.

“We’re in town now. Don’t you think people will find it odd if they see me in my assassin attire?” Lucas clarified. “And even if I change into regular clothes and accompany you to your home, what will others think when they see you with an unfamiliar boy?”

I didn’t ask her about it, but I’m pretty sure before I teleported here, I heard a voice, and that voice sounded similar to hers. Is there any connection between her and the person who teleported me to this world? First, I have to win her trust.

“Here, this is my home,” she said as she opened the door. Suddenly, Lucas emerged from her shadow, causing her to jump in fear. “Why do you always come out of my shadow like that? You scared me! If you’re going to go in my shadow again, you have to ask me first if you want to come out! You have to ask me! Are you even listening to me?” she demanded, her voice trembling with a mix of fear and frustration.

“Where are your parents? I was pretty sure that I’d have to hide from them,” Lucas said to her, sounding puzzled.

“My parents passed away when I was seven years old. Since then, I’ve been living alone,” Elise replied, her face clearly displaying the sadness she felt. 

“I’m sorry. So, you’re also like me,” Lucas said softly, his tone filled with empathy. Suddenly, he removed his mask, pulled her into a tight embrace, and kissed her on the lips.

After kissing her, Lucas gently asked, “Feeling better now?” Elise looked at him, her eyes brimming with tears. She embraced him even tighter and began to cry louder, as if releasing years of pent-up sadness. It was evident that she had endured her sorrows alone for far too long, with no one to comfort her.

Lucas held her close and said softly, “Hey, cry as much as you want. Let out all the sadness that has accumulated over the years.” He couldn’t believe that she had endured so much hardship on her own. She truly displayed immense strength of mind. “But I’m here now. I’ll help you overcome your struggles and fill your life with happiness,” he reassured her, determined to be there for her in every way possible.

After some time, she finally managed to calm down and mustered the courage to thank him for comforting her. Avoiding his gaze out of shyness, she withdrew her hands and hurried into the kitchen to prepare something to eat. As she opened the fridge, her heart sank at the sight of the solitary packet of noodles. ‘Looks like I’ll have to go hungry tonight. Perhaps this will be enough for him,’ she thought, resigning herself to her empty stomach.

With a heavy heart, she cooked the noodles and handed them to him. “What about you?” Lucas inquired, concern evident in his voice.

“No, I’m not hungry,” she replied softly, sensing her discomfort. But Lucas insisted, holding a spoonful of noodles towards her. “No, I’m really not hungry,” she protested weakly.

“Don’t lie. I know you’re hungry. Please, eat now. I won’t be able to eat if my wife isn’t eating,” Lucas urged firmly, coaxing her to take a bite. Reluctantly, she relented and began to eat, the warmth of his concern easing the ache in her heart.

After finishing her meal, she retreated to her room, intending to finally get some rest. However, her plans were disrupted when she found Lucas already there. “What are you doing here? It’s bedtime now. Please, go sleep on the sofa in the hall,” she implored him, a hint of frustration creeping into her voice.

“This is why I’m here, to sleep,” he replied, refusing to budge. Frustrated, she pushed him out of the room and closed the door, determined to have some peace and quiet.

But Lucas was undeterred. “So you really think you can stop me?” he mused, utilizing his powers to merge into the shadow of the door and slip into the room unnoticed. Reverting to his human form, he wrapped his arms around her and playfully nibbled her ear. “Wifey, how could you push me out of your room? Today is our wedding night; it’s my right to sleep beside you,” he teased, only to realize she was already fast asleep. Chuckling softly to himself, he vowed to make tomorrow unforgettable before drifting off into a peaceful slumber.

As she watched him sleep, a tender smile tugged at the corners of her lips. “In the midst of today’s chaos, I didn’t realize just how handsome he is. His black hair and red eyes suit him perfectly. Thank you for being my husband,” she thought, her heart overflowing with gratitude and contentment.
