Obsidian Rebirth: Lucas and Elise's Odyssey Chapter 1 :- “Bound by Destiny: Awakening in a New World

Shadows of Doubt

Shadows of Doubt

Mar 30, 2024

As Lily left her seat and moved to her place, she couldn't help but feel a mix of frustration and resentment towards Hero. Despite her best efforts to catch his attention, he seemed oblivious to her charms and affections.

"Thank you for helping me again," Elise expressed her gratitude to Hero, her voice tinged with genuine appreciation.

"No, you don't have to thank me. It's my duty as a monitor and leader to stop the bullies," Hero responded, his tone reflecting a sense of responsibility and integrity.

Hero, the epitome of academic excellence and a role model for many, stood out with his impressive background and achievements. Despite numerous advances from girls, including Lily, he remained aloof, leaving them puzzled and longing for his attention.

Lily couldn't understand why Hero consistently rejected her. She possessed beauty, confidence, and a sexy allure, qualities that would typically attract any boy's admiration. Yet, despite her best efforts, Hero's heart seemed set on someone else.

As Lily observed Hero's interactions, she couldn't ignore the undeniable connection between him and Elise, a girl whom she considered inferior in every aspect. Though Elise excelled in academics, she paled in comparison to Lily's allure and strength. This realization fueled Lily's resentment towards Elise, leading her to resort to bullying as a means of coping with her jealousy and insecurity.

"Take your places, students," a voice commanded, echoing through the classroom. It was the teacher, his authoritative tone demanding attention. As the students scrambled to their seats, Elise quietly took her place among them, her demeanor composed yet nervous.

Once all the students were settled, the teacher, a middle-aged man with a commanding presence and a physique hinting at extensive fighting experience, surveyed the class intently. His gaze swept over each student, his body instinctively assuming a fighting stance.

"Come out. I know there's someone hiding in this class," the teacher declared, his voice firm yet tinged with concern. "Students, be alert. There's someone here who is the strongest in the whole college."

As the tension in the room thickened, Lucas suddenly realized his mistake. Panic washed over him as he remembered the intense anger he had directed towards Lily, inadvertently revealing his murderous intent. "Oh, shit! Because of my anger, I forgot to conceal my murderous intentions towards Lily," Lucas lamented to himself, his heart racing with fear of being discovered.

Lucas quickly suppressed his murderous intent towards Lily, feeling a surge of relief wash over him as the unsettling impulse dissipated. "Huh! I can't feel his presence now. It seems he's gone. Let's begin our class," the teacher said to his students, attempting to conceal any trace of his inner turmoil.

"As you all know, there are two races that exist on this planet: the human race and the beast race," he continued, his voice steady but carrying a subtle undercurrent of concern. "Among these, the human kind is considered weak, often preyed upon by beasts. But God did not abandon us. He has given us the most powerful weapon. Do any of you know what weapon I'm referring to?"

"Yes, I know," the hero replied confidently.

"Good. Then tell me, what weapon am I talking about?" the teacher asked, his gaze fixed on the eager student.

"It's the human brain," the hero answered, a sense of pride evident in his voice.

"As expected of you. You're right," the teacher acknowledged, a flicker of admiration in his eyes. "God gave us the brain, distinguishing us from beasts. While beasts do possess brains, they lack the advancements of ours. With our brains, we have created weapons and tools to protect ourselves and enhance our lives."
He paused, allowing his words to sink in before continuing. "Of course, I'm not suggesting that all beasts are dangerous and pose a threat to humans. Some beasts are intelligent creatures that simply desire to live peaceful lives. Humans have the capacity to understand them, to befriend them, and to coexist harmoniously, bridging the gap between our species.”

"You all also know that after hunting beasts, their body parts, blood, and heart cores are highly valuable and can be sold at a high price. They can be used to create powerful medicines that increase the strength of the human body. With each injection of this medicine, the strength of the human body can increase by 10%," the teacher informed them, his voice tinged with a mix of seriousness and caution. As the sound of the college bell rang, signaling the end of lectures, he concluded, "We will continue our discussion tomorrow."
With that, the teacher left the class, and the students began to pack their bags, preparing to head home. Among them, Elise and Harry hurriedly made their way home, eager to check if Lucas was there. However, Lucas had different plans. Slipping out of Elise's shadow, he swiftly changed into his assassin suit and dashed back towards the college.

Searching for Lily, he finally found her and, using his telekinesis power he teleported her to the terrace. There, he seized her by the neck, his emotions boiling over. "How dare you bully my wife," he seethed, his voice laced with fury.
"What? Your wife?" Lily stammered, her eyes widening in shock as she reached for her dagger to defend herself. Before she could strike, Lucas hurled her away, her body crashing against the wall. "You bastard!" she spat, launching herself at him with all her might.

With his incredible speed, Lucas countered her attacks, delivering a barrage of punches to her stomach. Each blow was fueled by a mix of anger and protectiveness, his heart pounding with adrenaline as he defended his loved one. As Lily collided with the wall from the force of his strikes, Lucas stood there, his chest heaving, a mix of satisfaction and turmoil churning within him.
Lily lay on the ground, writhing in pain, her thoughts a whirlwind of confusion and disbelief. "How can he have that much speed and strength?" she wondered, struggling to make sense of the situation. She knew there were individuals with remarkable abilities, but seeing Lucas before her, she couldn't help but feel a sense of astonishment.
As Lucas approached her, his presence looming over her like a dark cloud, Lily felt a surge of fear coursing through her battered body. "How does it feel to get punches from an unknown person?" Lucas taunted, his voice dripping with malice.

"Who are... you and why are you calling that weakling your wife?" Lily managed to choke out, her voice trembling with both pain and curiosity.
Without warning, Lucas bent down and delivered a stinging slap across Lily's face, causing her to gasp in agony. "Hey, if you dare say something bad about her, I swear I will kill you. I simply beat you for bullying my wife," Lucas spat out, his voice filled with rage.

Struggling to catch her breath, Lily summoned whatever strength she had left to retort. "So you're her husband, how interesting. Then let me tell you something: your wife is cheating on you. Don't you know she likes Hero, our class monitor?" she revealed, her voice laced with a mix of defiance and spite.

Lucas's expression darkened at her words, his fists clenched in anger. "Shut up! Stop lying! I know she's not like that!" he barked, his voice trembling with disbelief.

"Hahaha, then why don't you ask her yourself? Ask her if she likes someone other than you!" Lily taunted, her words echoing through the empty terrace, as Lucas stood there, his world crumbling around him.

After hearing Lily's hurtful accusations, Lucas felt a mix of rage and disbelief surge through him. Without a word, he vanished from the terrace, using his ghost step to leave Lily in her injured state. As he raced home, his mind was a whirlwind of conflicting emotions. The sting of betrayal lingered, but beneath it all was a gnawing worry for Elise's well-being.

Arriving home, Lucas rushed to his room, his heart pounding with each step. He couldn't bear the thought of Elise hearing such lies. With trembling hands, he commanded his assassin suit to change into his usual tailcoat jacket, desperate to shed the weight of his anger and resume some semblance of normalcy.
As he lay on his bed, exhaustion weighed heavily on him, yet sleep eluded him. Thoughts of Elise and the accusations against her plagued his mind, filling him with a sense of helplessness. He longed to hold her, to reassure her of his love and trust, but the events of the evening had left him drained and unsure.

Amidst the turmoil, a nagging doubt crept into Lucas's thoughts: Did Elise have any feelings for Hero? The mere notion twisted his stomach into knots, but he pushed it aside, unwilling to entertain the possibility. Yet, the seed of doubt remained, casting a shadow over his already troubled mind.
As Lucas heard the familiar sound of the front door opening, signaling Elise's return, he tensed, unsure of how to face her after the tumultuous events of the evening. When Elise finally entered the room, Lucas feigned sleep, his heart racing with anticipation. He felt her presence beside him, but he dared not open his eyes.

Gently, he felt her touch on his face, followed by the tender brush of her lips on his cheek. His heart swelled with conflicting emotions – gratitude for her concern and fear of the uncertainty that lay between them. As Elise moved away to change her clothes, Lucas couldn't help but marvel at her kindness and compassion.

After she finished changing, Lucas heard her soft footsteps as she moved about the room. Then, to his surprise, he heard her whisper softly, "Thanks, God you did not go anywhere. I was worried. I thought you would go to the mountains again."

Despite his pretense of sleep, Lucas's heart skipped a beat at her words. He wanted to open his eyes, to reassure her with a smile, but he remained still, consumed by his inner turmoil.

As Elise finished changing and moved about the room, Lucas watched her silently, his heart heavy with uncertainty. He couldn't bear the thought of losing her, but he also couldn't ignore the possibility that she might be happier with someone else.

With a heavy sigh, Lucas made a silent vow to himself: he would stay by Elise's side, protecting her and caring for her, until he could uncover the truth about her feelings. And if it turned out that she did have feelings for Hero, he would step aside and give her the freedom to pursue her own happiness, even if it meant breaking his own heart in the process.
