Chapter Three: School Begins
T
he warm morning sun shone through the windows of Cal’s dorm room as a bellding chimed away, quickly getting agitated, as Cal wouldn’t get up. He stood up and stretched his body recalling the tiring night he had experienced last night. He smiled at this and went to the large bathroom, tied a black towel around his waist and brushed his teeth. He left the walk-in bathroom just to meet a fully dressed Jayke that had been absent when he had woken up, was nowcombing his hair.
“How are you already ready,” asked Cal.
“Pfft, I have super endurance I don’t need that much sleep and besides I don’t spend years in the shower getting ready” retorted Jayke gesturing to Cal.
“No comment,” muttered Calister as he dropped the towel tied around his waist not caring that he would now be completely naked.
“Sheesh have some dignity Calister,” said Jayke as he turned away.
“Meh, I don’t care so why should you, don’t worry you’ll get used to it,” said Cal as he walked back into the shower and turned it on the cool water droplets untensed his nerves causing his body to relax in a way that made him feel at peace.
He turned off the shower, walked back into the room, and saw that Jayke had left. He shrugged and then dried his wet self with his towel. He grabbed his comb and ran the bristles through his thick platinum hair. He snapped his fingers, some clothes unfolded themselves from his wardrobe and formed a series of outfits some to float at his front in a straight horizontal line as if waiting to be called upon. Each outfit came one by one as he waved his hand to signal them to where they had come from until he finally decided on a plain school outfit that consisted of; a white watch that had like a tornado of light in its background, a black and white hoodie (half white half black vertically with black and white lace on its black and white hood) that had a DJ Marshmallow face printed on its centre, he wore some black joggers, white sneakers and a pair of white non-recommended Louis Vuitton glasses.
He checked himself out through his mirror and ran a hand through his hair. He smiled and then muttered “Tersus,” Immediately, the room began arranging itself and cleaning up every mess that had been created, when it was done, Calister walked out of the dorm, checked his watch and realised that it was already 8:40 am, he then tapped the watch causing him to warp to the cafeteria. There he met Camila sitting next to Jayke. He sat next to Jay just as someone sat next to him the boy had deep aquamarine hair, blue-green eyes, heart-shaped lips and a swimmer build he wore a white t-shirt and a pair of cargo shorts with white, green Nike logo sneakers.
He was cute and handsome. He smiled at the people at the table and then spoke.
“Hi, I’m Blake,”
“I’m Calister,” said Calister who was still wondering where the boy had come from.
“Jayke but you can call me Jay,” said Jayke who seemed to be checking him out.
“Ooh, nice name,” said Blake who was wondering why he was being looked at like that.
“Camila,” said Cam who was staring at photos of Kai that only she knew where she had gotten those from, while at the same time, she was reading a large book that seemed to be about history as she ran her fingers along the wordings.
“The Brainiac species really can do a lot of things at once,” thought Blake.
Calister glanced at Camila and shook his head completely nonplussed at Cam’s behaviour he opened his palm and all the photos of Kai flew into his hand like a magnet attracting light-weight metals. Camila turned towards Calister “What the fuck Calister, give the pics back.”
“Cam, you know I won’t and besides you’ve not eaten and he’ll just end up breaking your heart,” retorted Calister at the now-angered Camila.
“Oh please, keep that to yourself your crap is boring and you can keep the photos, and besides weren’t you happy for me like yesterday,” said Camila feigning dejection.
“Oh I was but I, uh…. changed my mind,” said Cal as fire from his hand engulfed the photos and burnt them to ashes.
Camila paused, stared in shock at Calister, smiled, and then brought out another set of photos.
“Unbelievable Camila” exclaimed Jayke in utter disbelief.
“Oh, forget it, she’s a lost cause,” said Calister.
He then turned towards Blake.
“So what are your powers exactly cause by your aura I can tell that you’re a Water Elementalist and a…,”
“Merman, anyhow you’d like to call it,” said Blake a bit shyly.
“Ooh, nice I’ve always wanted to…” said Jakye making air quotes as he said “’ Do’ a mermaid,” also making inviting looks at Blake.
“For fuck’s sake Jayke, it’s not everything on to legs that are up for having sex with you like chill,” said Camila.
“Meh,” said Jayke with a mouthful as he shrugged.
“Sorry man but I’m straight, No homo,” said Blake as he shook his hands.
“Oh ok, we will have a good time together,” said Jayke a bit disappointed.
“Anyways, Blake what class are you in,” asked Calister.
“Oh uh, I think I would be in your class mostly for the shape-shifting part,” said Blake.
“You know about… my powers, how?” asked Calister slightly shocked at this knowledge Blake had of him.
“Everyone does,” said Blake.
“Oh buh…,” Calister was interrupted by a bellding that had appeared from nowhere and was chiming loudly signifying that it was 9:00 am and that it was time for classes.
All the students got up and scurried to their classes.
Calister and Blake who were in the same class entered their noisy classroom. The desks were multicoloured in a somewhat mystical way the top of the desk was the texture and colour of grass, and the sides were beautifully designed with the creatures that surrounded the school as red, blue, green, yellow, and violet sprayed the desks. A sunshine glow at the top of the class lit up the class gaily with a mystical rainbow that hovered above the class.
“Wow,” exclaimed Calister.
“Yeah, this is the class for practising all kinds of magic,” said Blake with a smile as he gazed around the class.
Suddenly a woman with up to two feet of straight hair with a black and green ombre and blue-green tips style to it.
The woman began.
“Good morning students, if you don’t already know I am Mrs Gren Tray and I have the power to copy whatever kind of magic you have,’ she said as she walked towards the now-seated Blake and asked “May I?” she asked.
“You may ma’am.” Answered Blake.
She smiled and touched his hand. His hand glowed blue. She left his hand and opened her balm as a blue light glowed and a bubble of water floated above it.
“As you can see, I copied his water magic but don’t worry it’s temporary I can’t contain so much magic.” She said.
“You can rely on me to teach you any magic you please,’ she said as she glanced around at the surprisingly attentive students until her gaze landed on Calister “So Calister Madrigal “ would you like to tell the class about you.”
“Ok, I guess,” said Calister almost grudgingly as he stood up and addressed the class.
“I am a werewolf and a light mage, weremage some people call it,” said Calister as he summoned a light orb in his palm that vanished as he sat down.
“Thank you Calister,” said Mrs Gren as she nodded lightly towards him,” OK now, so today’s class
Is a practical class so I would like all of you to hold on tightly to your desks.”
Mrs. Gren snapped her middle and thumb fingers against each other causing green sparks to fly from them. Immediately, the room looked like they were travelling through millions of places as the wall blurred with the scenes of different places, with immense speed until they finally stopped at a big clearing amid beautiful green trees, neatly-trimmed carpet grass, ornamental flowers and amazingly huge training mannequins.
“Welcome to our school’s training grounds for magic,” she gazed around at the amazed children and grinned happily.” Here, I am going to teach you mostly about combat, defence and helpful magic. OK so now let’s start with a spell for teleporting to different places, is that fine by everyone,” the woman asked, as she looked around at the now-murmuring students.
The class nodded in agreement as they got up from their seats just before they vanished.
“Ok now students, I want you all to spread out… yeah spread out just like that,” said the woman as the obedient students did as they were told, their excitement soaring through the same.
“Good, now everyone close your eyes and stretch forth your hands, now think of the place you want to go…good,’ said the woman as she admired her well-behaved students,’ you will begin to feel the magic in your blood pulsate through you to your fingers and the colour of your aura begins to glow around it”
As everyone did this different colours of auras began to glow all around the field. Glows of green, yellow, blue, red and so many more shone throughout.
“Now say, while maintaining the place in your head, ‘Teleportix’”
“Teleportix,” said Calister his fingers. Immediately a swirling gas-like portal opened showing where he had wanted to go which was beside Cam. He saw her through the portal showing her having a math lesson with total concentration, her eyes glowing a dim white. She paid so much attention that she didn’t notice Cal gazing at her through the circular cloud-like portal that floated some metres from her desk. He shook his head in total disbelief at Cam’s unwavering concentration. He clenched his fist making the portal vanish into thin air, disappearing as quickly as it had come. He took a glance at the crowd of students and saw them smiling at the portals they had created until his eyes came in sight of a student who was having trouble creating a portal, the student kept chanting the spell, and blue sparks flew from his palm hopelessly.
Calister went to the student. It was Blake, he had a nervous and perplexed look pestering on his handsome face. When Calister got to him he was still chanting the spell repeatedly.
“Aaargh” groaned Blake in displeasure.
“What’s up?” asked Calister pretending as if he didn’t know what was going on with Blake.
“I don’t know man, honestly dude, I’m freaking the fuck out… aargh” exclaimed Blake his hand now ruffling his hair causing a magic shockwave around him that passed through Caluel like floating water.
“He doesn’t seem to be able to control the magic within him,” thought Calister to himself.
“Hmm, okay let’s try this, Hold out your and steady your breath, feel the magic that runs through you settle at your fingertips,” said Calister almost fatherly-like.
“Okkk,” said Blake as he did what he was told his fingertips now glowing an aqua-blue.
“Good, now say the spell,” said Calister with faith in his heart.
“Teleportix,” said Blake.
Immediately a blue swirling portal appeared showing the crashing waves of the vast Atlantic Ocean.
“Thanks, Cal, I owe you one and bye,” said Blake. He dived into the portal.
“Ogiri,” chanted Calister.
Just before Blake could enter the portal a white wall made out of what seemed like flexible plastic blocked him from the portal, his head bashing into the wall causing the portal to vanish.
“Don’t, “said Caluel a hand up.
Blake got up, an angry look on his face as he rubbed his head in agony.
“What the fuck man,” said Blake.
“What the fuck do you think you were going to do, huh?, jump into the ocean and swim away forever while making the teachers worried, oh fuck no!.” said Calister.
“I want to leave this school don’t you get it,” said Blake a little bit calmer now.
“But why, the school’s great, ain’t it,” said Calister reassuringly.
“The sea is the only place I can feel my birth parents’ presence I was sent here by my foster parents, they’re trying but it isn’t the same with my birth parents,… It’s hard, you know,” said Blake.
“Oh,” said Calister.
“It’s ok that was very stupid of me,” said Blake.
Mrs. Gren’s voice boomed over, ”Come on students, you have done most brilliantly well, now go to your seats and hold on.”
