Listening to my words, the director was stunned. He was looking at me with his eyes wide open and his mouth slightly open. I expected him to yell at me, or say my request was crazy, but instead, after a few moments he began to laugh. This reaction left me confused, but I didn’t say anything, I just stared at him, waiting for him to stop and say something.
I pass on what felt like an hour until the principal stopped laughing. After Julian gave him a glass of water he breathes deeply and put on a serious face before looking at me. "I was ready for you to ask for a career change or even a change of university, but I never imagined that you would ask me for this," the director said directly and with a glimmer of joy in his voice. "I will immediately warn all your teachers to send you the necessary study material to study online, I just want you to keep in mind that I will not require them to do extra work so you have to work twice as hard to keep you current" I keep my eyes peeled. "I understand and accept the consequences of this change," I said with complete certainty.
I was at the principal’s office all day, watching the director and Julian making calls and presenting a parade of documents on the desk. Before I knew it, I ended up on the couch in the office eating cookies and drinking tea without knowing what else to do and unable to leave because every time I moved both men stopped and stared at me until they made sure I was not going to leave.
I ended up asleep on the couch for what I thought was a few seconds, yet when I opened my eyes, I saw the darkness through the window. I rose suddenly when I realized that the place was completely silent. "Calm young Raul, you did not stay locked in the office" commented the director as he laughed. I took a deep breath as I saw him sitting still holding some papers. I shook the dream off and headed to the desk.
I sat quietly in front of Mr Cortez and waited for him to finish with the documents in front of him. After a few seconds the director put down the papers and directed his face towards me. "It cost us more time than expected, but we got all your teachers to accept this unexpected change. Starting tomorrow you do not have to come, you will have a unique user to access the classroom cameras of the class that you have according to your schedule so that you can be aware of everything and your teachers should not work outside their schedule, you will be able to send emails with your doubts and these will be answered as long as you sent them in the schedule stipulated by each teacher" said while Julian handed me a document with the times provided, When I read the document I frowned and before I could say anything Mr Cortez spoke. "As you can see, Professor Montenegro is not on the list, taking into consideration your previous request to have nothing to do with him, Mr Julián offered to answer any questions you had on this matter," he said, reassuring me instantly, for a moment I felt sad thinking about that redhead, but I quickly shook the feeling and turned my attention back to the director.
After clarifying a few details, I thanked the director for what he did for me and apologized for the problems this preferential treatment would bring. He didn’t care and asked Julian to take me home again. I said goodbye to Mr Cortez and left the office accompanied by Julian.
Once in the car, I feel a weight leave my body and my stomach makes a deafening noise. Julián simply laughed at the situation and told me that we would stop by for dinner before leaving me at home, with my face painted red I thanked the gesture and put on my belt.
After a few minutes we stopped and entered a thematic restaurant that seemed to cost too much. "We don’t need to eat here; we could have burgers and eat in some park like last time" I said with concern when thinking how expensive the food would be in a place with that appearance. Julián smiled and led me behind the waiter to our table. When we sat down and saw the menu, I felt my soul go away, the prices of that place were too high; I looked forward and I noticed that Julián saw me as if I were a little boy. "Order what you want or I’ll be forced to order you the most expensive on the menu," he said with a diabolical smile. I immediately turned my gaze to the menu and selected the first thing that caught my attention.
The discomfort I felt upon entering vanished the instant I gave the first bite to the food I had ordered. I didn’t take my attention off my plate for a second until I took the last bite. Once they took the plate from us, Mr Julián started talking. "I’m glad you enjoyed the meal," he said with a smile on his lips and his eyes full of kindness. "I don’t know you very well, but it’s pretty obvious to me that your life hasn’t been easy," He comment softly. Before I could say anything, the bill came and we left the place; the trip to my apartment was silent.
After saying goodbye to Julian, I walked slowly to the entrance of my apartment repeating in my mind the last words that Julián said in the restaurant. Enter the place trying to think of what detail might have made Mr Julian say that. The sound of my cell phone makes me come back to reality; then I realized that I had not turned on the light and I no longer had my backpack with me. In the dark I looked for my cell phone that kept ringing desperately. After a few minutes, I could find it and answered the call without seeing who was. "Mr Sosa, I communicate of Villa Amanecer regarding your mother" said a female voice on the other side of the line, removing the color of my face in an instant.
