Sunlight streamed through a gap in the roof, warming Rey's face. He stirred, the clang of the school bell echoing faintly. Slowly, Rey opened his eyes, staring at the blue sky and whispered.
He closed his eyes, trying to shake off the unsettling feeling.
I am Rey, a 19-year-old average student at Weston University.
"Hey, Rey! You gonna sleep all break?"
"Nah, just catching some rays."
Kai is my one and only friend.
"You okay? You look like you saw a ghost."
Rey laughed, "Just a weird dream, that's all."
Kai didn't seem convinced, but he dropped it with a shrug.
"Cool if I borrow your lucky charm for the big game on weekend?"
"Nah, can't do that, kai. Besides, luck isn't on my side today."
"What's wrong? You seem bummed."
As long as I can remember, I've never taken the pendant off.
Kai chuckled, wrapping an arm around Rey's neck in a playful headlock.
"Come on, don't be a spoilsport. Maybe that lucky charm will finally get you to score a goal."
Rey swatted at his friend's arm, a flicker of a smile tugging at his lips.
"Alright, alright. But if we lose, it's on you."
"Deal! Now come on, slowpoke. If we don't hurry, those new burgers in the cafeteria will be gone before we even get there!"
His fingers tightened around the pendant, the smooth surface offering little comfort against the rising tide of worry within him.
The star shaped pendant glinted with a faint light in the sunlight.
