Something Happened To Henry Walker

Prologue : The Introduction to War, 1941 (2)

UPDATE 10/06/2026

In the wake of Tapas' shutdown announcement, I have decided to remove my works from this website before it goes dark. I go into a more detailed explanation on my blog post, linked below.

To sum it up, I’m not interested in moving my work from one platform to another and hoping that the next one will remain intact because the platform, for me, is no longer contingent on getting my stories out into the world. Also, I’d rather keep my novels somewhere where the hosting site's disappearance is not out of my control.

Does this mean these stories will disappear into the ether? No, but the shutdown has become an opportunity to make my stories available to you in a way that I haven't been able to before (also linked below).

Thank you to everyone who has read and supported my work here over the years, and I appreciate you being part of the journey. If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to let me know.

Kind regards,
Lucas

Something Happened To Henry Walker

Something's eaten his best friend. And now it wants to eat him.

~

It’s September, 1942. The last time nine-year-old Charlie Stewart heard from his father was at the beginning of the year.

But for now, Charlie is concerned. Two days after his best friend, Henry, disappeared, his sleepy mining town starts searching, but they won’t let Charlie help. Henry said he was going to ask his parents about fundraising ideas to support the war effort and bring Charlie’s dad back from the Philippines.

When Henry does come back - six days later - he’s sick. When he returns to school, he’s . . . D I F F E R E N T . Something happened in those days when he was gone, and as everyone welcomes Henry back, Charlie grows increasingly frightened of what could’ve happened to him.

But one thing is for certain - something strange, something awful, something definitely happened to Henry Walker.
