Tangled Vengeance

Chapter 8

Chapter 8

Apr 03, 2024

RECAP

Luke and Ethan walk into the hospital.

Ethan walks up to the front desk.

Ethan: "Hey, would it be alright if I could check "James Smith's office?""

Ethan shows the front desk clerk his badge.

Clerk: "Please go ahead, we've been worried about James."

Clerk: "You'll find his office on the 3rd floor. Once you get out of the elevator, take a right, then one more right. His office will be the second door on the left."

Luke and Ethan take the elevator and walk towards the office.

Luke: "Why is his light off?"

Ethan: "Well, he's not in the office, so it makes sense."

Luke: "But EVERYONE else's light is on."

Ethan: "Well, let's just go in there and see."

Ethan walks inside James's office.

???: "So predictable."

Ethan and Luke walk into a room with 3 people, one sitting in James's office chair, and the other two pointing guns at Luke and Ethan.

Chapter 8

???: "Hands up, both of you."

Ethan and Luke put their hands up.

Operator: "What's going on?"

Luke: "IT'S A TRA-"

???: "Shut it."

???: "Pat them down, boys."

Luke looks over to Ethan.

They both subtly nod their heads.

The two men go to Luke and Ethan to pat them down.

Ethan knocks the gun that one of the men had out of their hands and pulls out his pistol, grabbing one of the men, putting them in a one-armed chokehold with the gun to his head.

???: "You sure you wanna do that? We still got your friend."

Luke: "I mean, not really."

The unknown man and the 2 armed men show a confused expression.

Luke, with his fast hands, palms the gun out of the man's hand that was aiming his weapon at him and punches him in the jaw, knocking him out.

Ethan: "Sir, you're under arrest for threatening an officer's life and being a possible accomplice to the murder of James Smith."

???: "Can you really do anything to me? I never technically threatened you myself, nor is there any proof of me murdering this James... Smith?"

???: "Also, take that gun away from my subordinate's head. You can't kill him anyways, isn't that your law?"

Operator: "Damn it, he's right. It's just an accusation with no solid evidence, and he also never drew any weapons against you."

Ethan: "Curses."

Ethan knocks out the man with the bottom of his pistol.

The man with the unknown identity laughs.

???: "Well, that was fun. I always enjoy messing with you guys."

The unknown man walks to the window ledge and freefalls off.

Luke looks over the window and doesn't see him.

Luke: "Man, who was that guy?"

Ethan: "I don't know, but it seems like he did this all for fun. He never had any intention of hurting us. It was like he just wanted to tease us."

Luke: "I wonder about one thing, though."

Ethan: "What is that?"

Luke: "How did he get in here to do that?"

Ethan: "You're right."

Luke: "In order for us to get to this room, we had to show our badges to the front desk, no normal civilian should be able to enter this floor, let alone enter this room and stay here armed."

Ethan: "There are 2 possibilities then. First one, he's also a doctor that works here, that's not very likely though. Second one, this hospital has some sort of ties to whoever that man was and this "red fury" drug."

Ethan: "Hey, operator?"

Operator: "Yes?"

Ethan: "You sent other officers to investigate James's house, right?"

Operator: "Yes, why?"

Ethan: "Luke and I are going to continue the search in his office, send men here too because we have 2 criminals laid out on the floor here. Also, I asked because I want you to notify us if you can find his phone."

Andy makes another phone call

Back in the simulation

Luke and Ethan are shuffling through drawers, failing to find anything.

Ethan finds an empty capsule labeled "RF" with a rolled-up paper inside.

Ethan takes the paper out and reads it.

The paper reads: "294-109-6643."

Ethan: "Luke, look at this."

Luke: "It looks like some type of code, probably related to the Red Fury drug."

Ethan: "Maybe we should go back to his house and see if it opens anything."

Luke: "Right."

Ethan and Luke leave as the backup officers come to retrieve the 2 laid-out bodies.

inside the car

Luke: "So what made you want to become a cop?"

Ethan: "I was always inspired by anime, the way they protect their ideals and things of the sort. But this one anime about the "shen•shun•go•mee" really reminded me of the police force and how they protect everyone and everything, no matter what."

Luke: "That's cool and all, but don't you mean 'Shinsengumi'?"

Ethan: "YOU'RE RIGHT! How could I? What a failure on my part. For that, I must commit shippuku!"

Luke: "Don't you mean 'seppuku'?"

After a couple of minutes of Ethan being difficult

Ethan: "So why did you want to become a cop?"

Luke: "I want to protect everyone from having to go through what I went through."

Ethan: "My father always told me that too. In order to make the next generation better, you must protect them from repeating the same mistakes you made."

Luke: "Sounds like a wonderful father."

Ethan: "What about yours?"

Luke: "I don't wanna talk about it. Tell me more about your father, though. He sounds cool."

Ethan: "My father is a truck driver, so I didn't see him too much as a kid, but I cherished every moment I had with him. Even until this day, I rarely see him, but he's a really busy man, so I understand. Truck driving is no joke."

Ethan and Luke bond all the way on the car ride back to James's house

Ethan and Luke arrive back at James's house

Nothing but caution tape everywhere

Operator: "We've found a phone in James's possession. We're holding it at base. Just come back whenever you're ready."

Ethan: "Right. Thank you, but we need to check something at James's house once again."

Operator: "Alright then."

Ethan and Luke look around the house again.

Luke goes back inside James's room and sees a screen inside one of the desk drawers.

Luke: "ETHAN! Come look at this."

Ethan walks over.

Ethan: "A screen? And it has a digital keypad."

Luke: "Let's put in the code."

Ethan puts in the code from the paper.

A screen pops out of the wall, and the keypad for the password turns into a keyboard.

The screen contains a diagram about the Red Fury drug.

Luke: "Woah."

Ethan: "All of our questions can be answered right here."

To be continued...
