Zhao Yingyue looked at herself in her full-length mirror after having to wake up early and spend two hours getting ready just to go outside. Her parents, of course, would be furious if she didn't go out looking anything but her best.
Unfortunately, that was her life. To be the perfect Zhao princess in the eyes of everyone, never a mistake in sight. Anything else would be met with anger.
She stared in the mirror for a few seconds longer. Her hair was pulled back into an intentional messy bun look. Her makeup had been expertly applied to cover any trace of imperfection—including her bags that had begun getting darker again.
Zhao Yingyue then peered into her own eyes. She had a rarity in her genetics that made her have blue eyes. Because of both that and the fact that her birthday fell on the Lunar New Year, she was named after the reflection of the moon.
It was also the primary feature that many were attracted to when they saw her. It was different so of course it increased her popularity. One of her blind dates had even been bold enough to mention how beautiful their children would be when she passed down the gene. Beyond the presumptuous nature of such a statement, he obviously wasn't smart enough to know how dominant and recessive genes worked.
It was presumptuous of him to assume she would be willing to do anything with him just because she'd attended the blind date. She then ensured that she would scare him away soon after so that he would never come to her again.
That had actually been the most amusing part of the date. The scared look on his face when she had left saying that she "looked forward to when they'd meet next" immediately brought her mood up. It always amused her at all the ways that she would come up with to make sure none of the failed dates would even dare to think her name again.
Zhao Yingyue's eyes then trailed down to her outfit for the day. She sported brown dress pants with a white blouse and tan blazer on top. Of course, it remained unbuttoned as it was only for show. Then, she put on brown pumps to tie the outfit together.
While at the end of the day, the outfit wasn't fit for the cold winter weather outside, she knew it didn't matter. Her family only cared about how she looked. From a young age, color theory had been pumped into her brain and every new season led to her having a boring lecture by some industry specialist on how to best remain an "untouchable fashionista". They'd just give her soup later in hopes that it would help her avoid getting sick anyway. Anything to protect their precious image.
Her supporters always found it so cool that she managed to keep up her style all year long without a clue that she would rather not. She was also human and felt the cold, too. She envied those who could wear whatever they wanted. Hoodies and sweats, undone hair and a natural face. Those were her dream.
Alas, her fans only loved what she presented on the daily. They especially loved how whatever she wore always accented her natural features such as her long legs and soft facial features.
Zhao Yingyue sighed before grabbing her designer bag and walking out of her room. If she was honest, everything she wore was from some major label but she never cared enough to remember which ones.
She'd much rather be wearing some unknown brand's clothes as long as they were comfortable and warm. It was rather sad to her that she never even owned a hoodie at any point in her life.
Everyday was the same old, same old. Designer clothes and superficial activities meant to enhance her family's image in the eyes of the public.
It was dreadfully boring.
As soon as Zhao Yingyue exited the room, her manager Gu Yan looked her up and down a few times before smirking and nodding in approval. The woman would never surpass the smirk phase in front of her.
"We have a busy day ahead of us. Let's get going right now."
Zhao Yingyue said nothing and calmly followed behind Gu Yan. While Gu Yan's official title was as her manager, Zhao Yingyue saw her more as a nanny her parents kept around to keep a close eye on her. Though the difference wasn't huge, it was quite annoying, it ensured that she could never sneak away when they went out and therefore, never had the chance to do anything that would tarnish the family name. The only thing her parents cared about.
As they strode through the mansion, the countless staff scattered around the house doing whatever it was that they were assigned to do and would stop to bow as Zhao Yingyue and Gu Yan passed.
As usual, Zhao Yingyue just kept a calm exterior as she acknowledged them with the slight nod of her head. Her parents had always been upset that she even acknowledged them but she was a believer that everyone, no matter who they were, deserved the same amount of respect.
When they reached the front doors, the pair walked outside and were met with the usual black Rolls Royce parked up front. The chauffeur, Yang Zimo, was already standing outside the car.
He immediately bowed to Zhao Yingyue and Gu Yan before opening the door to the backseat.
"Good morning Yang Zimo," Zhao Yingyue said with a soft smile as she slid in.
He didn't verbally reply, likely not wanting to risk offending her or Gu Yan, but bowed once again and closed the door. She always tried being nice to the man as he had always been thoughtful toward her. His worrying looks had never gone unnoticed by her—even if she chose to say nothing to them.
Already feeling tired though the day had yet to start, Zhao Yingyue pulled her phone from her pocket to scroll through the latest news in e-sports. She'd much rather do that and leave Gu Yan to leading the way as usual.
Worrying was pointless. It's not like she had much of a say anyway. She would just quietly follow along through their tiring routines until night time came when she'd finally have a bit of peace and delve right back in to "Honor".
