I sat at the table in Biscotti, waiting for Maverick himself to show up. The door bell jingled and there he was, dressed in a similar outfit to mine with more masculine touches. I had a wig on, so I was now a brunette with brown eyes. I waved and he smiled and walked over, taking the seat opposite me.
“Hi! I’m Ne-Nylah!” I stuttered before making the mistake of stating my actual name. “And you are?”
“C’mon girl, we both know I’m yours,” He winked and I internally gagged before he said, “I’m Maverick. Nice to meet you Nylah.”
“Right back atcha.” I finger gunned and instantly regretted it. Why could I not remember Ezekiel tips? The amount of socialisation skills I had were close to zero, the most recent people I’d talked to were my brother himself, Nova, Maeve and now Maverick. “So, what do you like doing in your free time?” I asked, feeling the heat rise in my cheeks.
“Uhm, does brawling with my housemates count? Other than that, I like playing guitar.” He responded, a confident smile on his face. “How about you?”
“I enjoy videography.” True.
“Oh, cool. I did that in high-school.”
“Nice.” I flagged down a waiter. “Hi, could I get a caramel iced coffee?”
“And could I get a margarita?” Maverick asked, looking up at the waiter. Was he kidding?
“Of course? Is that all I can get you two for today?” The poor girl responded, looking at my ‘date’ like he’d grown two heads.
“A panini please.” I responded and handed her fifty bucks. “Keep the change.”
She smiled and nodded before hurrying off to the kitchen, probably grateful she didn’t have to deal with Maverick much longer.
“Margarita this early? Ambitious.” I snorted and he just shrugged slightly.
“I’m just feeling flat.” He muttered, smirking. I rolled my eyes slightly.
Our drinks arrived within five minutes or so. He sipped his margarita and got back to breaking the ice. “Would you rather live in extreme heat or cold the rest of your life?”
“Probably the cold. I could just keep putting clothes on.”
“I hate the cold, I honestly would be fine in just my jocks.”
“Women can’t do that though, sadly.”
“Good point.” He smiled softly and took another sip of his drink. Then I noticed it, the baby blue eyes he had today.
“You have nice eyes.” He looked caught off guard by that question, cheeks pink before saying,
“Thanks.”
“You’re welcome.” I sipped my coffee and looked at him. “Do you like reading?”
“Yeah, it’s nice.” Maverick responded, eyeing the panini a waitress had just handed me.
“What’s your favourite book?” I asked back, tilting my head slightly.
“Boobies.”
“What?”
“Boobies! Like the bird? Wait, let me show you a picture.” He grabbed his phone from his back pocket and showed a picture of a bird, followed by the book he was talking about. I snorted.
“It’s better than the smut I usually read though.” He added on, looking like he was scrolling on his phone for something else.
“Oh, I-I don’t think I need to know what book that is-”
“Credence, the latest one I read.”
“Oh, good to know.” I grumbled and sipped my drink again before taking a bite of my sandwich.
“How about you, what is your favourite book?”
“Bride.” I giggled, hanging my head so my blush wouldn’t be seen.
“It’s not like you’re any better then now, is it?” Maverick sighed and finished off his margarita.
We sat in a comfortable silence for the rest of the time, occasionally Maverick would make a joke and I would laugh my head off. Funny, he was.

“How’d it go?” Ezekiel asked me when I dropped my keys on the end table next to the door.
“Fine. He’s gullible, didn’t suspect a thing.” I smirked and took off my wig, eyeing it. “I think some of my red strands were poking out. I hope he didn’t notice-”
“Why would he know? I’m pretty sure it needs contacts to see.”
“His eyes were blue today, Ez!” I remarked, remembering the baby blue eyes.
“Oh. Contacts then.” I nodded at his realisation, before going upstairs into my office, phone in hand to organise another ‘date.’
