The next morning William had arrived at the teacher’s breakroom earlier than last time. Hoping to find Daniel so he can address the letter from last night.
However, it was only when he got there that he learned that Daniel's office is located on the top floor.
So, William decided to find his assigned desk space and go through what he had planned today. He sat muttering to himself about what Daniel could have meant with his letter until he felt a light tap on his shoulder.
Being dragged out of his thoughts by Jenny and one other.
"Good morning, William, have you met Miss Anna Petterson? She is the one in charge of finding sages with singularities as well as sages using the yade art ink." Jenny asked.
William looked at the tall red haired woman and stretched out his hand.
"I have not."
"I am William." he introduced himself, waiting for her to accept his handshake.
The tall red haired woman shook his hand whilst looking deep into his eyes.
"I have to ask. Why is it that you claim to have no last name? I’m aware of your upbringing but would you not use your adoptive family’s name?" Anna asked.
"That’s just the thing. Never got adopted. But I do have one. It's just a bit embarrassing." William said with an awkward laugh.
"Anyway, you said you were the one in charge of sages with the yade art of ink?" William asked.
"Well, I'm the newly appointed head teacher of class 45 and for sages with the singularity of conversion," William said with a smile.
"That’s what I wanted to talk to you about." Anna said.
"Yesterday, the students of class 45 came to my office and underwent the Södersund test." Anna explained.
"They were also the last class to take the test. So, I wanted to give you the name of the students that we found out to have the singularity of conversion." Anna said handing William a pamphlet.
The Södersund test is a test named after the sage, Markus Södersund, that is used to be able to discover if a sage has one of the two known singularities.
The Södersund test involves a sage putting a drop of their blood on a piece of materialized pure Yade and waiting to see the blood’s reaction. The test itself is based on the amplitude test. Where blood is put on crystalized Yade, and the energy is measured.
Usually, the blood of a sage or human would just start to transform into crystalized Yade when in prolonged contact. However, there is a difference between those sages who possess a singularity.
If the blood is of a sage with a singularity, then it would start to move into a perfect circle before it would start to evaporate into smoke. Now the difference between singularities goes as follows.
A sage with the singularity of conversion, their blood starts to take a bright orange tint before evaporating into smoke.
A sage with the singularity of attraction, sages who can manipulate gravity at varying different levels, their blood starts to vibrate before gaining spots of deep purple until they evaporate.
William held up the pamphlet to read the name of the students.
"Students with confirmed singularities.
Category: convertor.
Class 01:
Abigale Smith, 19.
Joakim Åberg, 18.
Class 45:
Hector Ramos, 20.
Nadia Odeh, 18
Class 209:
Charlotte Allard, 19."
"Wow, five students?" William said amazed.
"Don’t get too excited. The record still sits at seven students in one class." Anna jumped in.
"But that’s all the time I have for now, Daniel wanted to inform me that conversion classes were to begin on Friday." she continued.
Two days to plan a lecture, how kind of him. William cursed Daniel subconsciously.
Anna gave William a look of understanding before she turned to leave.
Welcome to the nightmare planner that is Daniel Foster. Anna thought.
Later on, William took himself to room 4009, and surprisingly he was the last one there. The corridor was flooded with students wanting to get in.
It's 30 minutes left why are all of you here!? William thought.
He tried to squeeze his way through the crowd, but it was impossible. So, he resorted to another way.
William thought of the space within the classroom. He took a deep breath and imagined him standing on his desk inside the classroom.
"לְהַבהֵב (flicker)" William chanted.
In the blink of an eye William disappeared from the hall and onto his desk in room 4009.
Whilst William disappeared from the halls some conspiracies were brewing.
"There sure are a lot of people here today." Hector said.
"I don’t really remember there being this many people here yesterday though." Hector continued.
"Well, if the new teacher has such a high amplitude there would be some commotion." Jimmy said scrolling on his phone.
"Besides William doesn’t seem to be the only reason." Jimmy said pointing nudging his phone in the direction of Nicholas being surrounded by a group of students.
"He looks almost like a celebrity" Hector mumbled.
"Well, that’s what a high amplitude gets ya." Jimmy continued to stare at his phone.
"But I don’t understand, if he has a known criminal history why are people still coming here, why is he even allowed to teach?" Hector asked.
Jimmy sighed before answering.
"Look I don’t know. But it's mostly as he said yesterday. Almost everyone here has some sort of dirty past. It's the one school who doesn't care about that sort of stuff." Jimmy told Hector.
"Just because, Wolfgang claimed this as their island doesn't mean every criminal ran away. There are still a lot of people with skeletons in their closets."
Hector looked towards the tattoo covered punk next to him.
Almost everybody huh? Hector thought gripping hard onto his notebook.
Hector gets dragged out of his worried thoughts by the appearance of Amelia, Ophilia and another girl he had just recently met, Nadia Odeh.
"What are you talking about?" Amelia asked.
"About our new oh so mysterious teacher." Jimmy said.
"Oh, that. His reputation seems to have spread to almost every floor of the school now." Amelia said.
"Reputation?" Hector asked.
"A mysterious homeless man with an amplitude of 8,5 with an equally mysterious title also seems to have a plethora of criminal deeds on his name." Nadia spoke up, her voice cheerful and full of delight.
"Yeah, and about that title. Sage of the firstborn? That just sounds made up?" Ophelia said.
"But he said it was genuine, besides I don’t think principal Foster would appoint someone who would take a title." Nadia said.
"I know. I guess everything about him feels off. There has even started popping up group chats around campus about what his title could mean. because someone seems to have spread the information in class out to everyone." Ophilia said.
"Some groups have even started putting up competitions on trying to figure out his title’s meaning or about who he is. He has become sort of a sensation overnight." Ophilia explained.
"Have they come up with anything?" Hector asked.
"No, they have nothing to go with." Ophilia said.
"Well, does anyone have any theories on what it could mean?" Hector asked.
The group shook their head.
"All I've heard is that he might be on the run from something or someone." Jimmy said, now looking up from his phone.
"His track record seems to go back years." Jimmy said.
"What if we ask him?" Amelia asked.
"Are you dumb?" Jimmy ask.
"D-did you lose all your smarts on your way to class cause that’s the most idiotic question I have heard. The man clearly said he is equally as lost in this as anyone else." Jimmy continued.
"No, of course I know that. I meant what if we ask him what his title abilities are." Amelai said.
She then looked towards Hector.
"Spells unique to titles."
"Thank you" Hector whispered.
"If we ask him his title abilities then maybe we could get some info. And maybe we can get a leg up in these side competitions." Amelia said.
"Sure, it wouldn’t hurt to try. Right?" Nadia said.
The rest of the small group nodded in agreement.
An excited smile crept up on Amelia’s face.
"Oh, this will be fun!" Amelia exclaimed.
"Oh God, now you have made her competitive. She is a nightmare when she is like this." Jimmy sighed.
Back in the classroom, William put his prepared papers on the desk and decided to take his time before his lecture started. He took some board pens and started to write on the big board. He wrote up what they would be talking about and categorized them into practical lectures and theoretical.
he did this for exactly 29 minutes and 30 seconds before walking up to the door and unlocking it letting the swarm of students rush in.
As the students took their seats William began to walk back to the front of the classroom.
"Today we will-" he starts but gets interrupted by one of the students.
"Sir? Can you tell us your spells related to your title?" a calm yet intrigued voice asked.
William turned around to see who it was that asked.
It was Amelia Swanson.
"I-I’m sorry?"
"Well, you said yesterday you weren’t sure why you were given your title right?" she asked.
William gave a nod.
"Well, some of us here thought that we could maybe help with that." Amelia said.
"Why would I ask any of you for help, with something I’ve been trying to figure out since I was ten years old." William laughed.
"If I haven’t found a reason in all these years then how would any of you? No offense." William asked.
"Because it could be fun." She said with a determined look.
William looked her in her eyes. He almost felt a chill run down his spine.
Those eyes of hers were scary.
I wonder how many you have tricked with those eyes of yours? William thought.
"Why not, I’m game." William said.
A small "yes" echoed from the students.
"With my title, I have three unique spells." William said whilst picking up the board pen.
He moved over to a part of the board he had not written on.
"First, Room. This spell allows me to completely erase any magic in an area that I can calculate in my head. Meaning that me and anything else in this area can’t use magic. Nor can magic enter." William explained.
"The second is לְהַבהֵב (flicker). This spell is basically teleportation. If I can see where my destination is I can teleport to it. If it’s behind a wall I have to know what the room looks like and I have to visualize myself on a specific place in the walled of location." William continued.
"The third spell is Jäger. With an object or person in mind, I can use this spell to find it in a 10km diameter around me. It works similar to a sonar in my head. And the diameter moves with me. And this locating ability will be active for as long as I'm able to keep it going or until I find the object or person I'm looking for." William explained.
"Those three are my title abilities" Wiliam told the class.
"So, did this help? Have you any thoughts already?" he asked.
