Dead Man's card

Huntress for a Hunter

Huntress for a Hunter

Apr 07, 2024

The man who approached was tall and fair, his hair neatly gelled to the side, now a striking shade of white. His face, adorned with well-earned wrinkles, bore a distinguished charm, complemented by a neatly trimmed beard. Leaning on a wooden cane, he exuded an air of seasoned grace.

Dressed in a crisp three-piece suit, with hues of white and grey, and a subtle ash-colored necktie, he cut a striking figure. His smile, warm and inviting, drew delighted squeals from the ladies around him, who reacted as if they were high school girls encountering their crush for the first time.

Alex who had been enjoying all the women's attention till now frowned seeing his spotlight stolen by someone. He saw how the man continued to showcase his harmless smile. The ladies gushed among themselves about how handsome the man was despite being old. Alex scoffed at the sight, put his leg one over other and leaned on the sofa holding the empty tea cup in his hand.

Of course, Alex knew him; there was scarcely a soul in the city unfamiliar with his name. He was Conan Grey, a titan of industry, once the esteemed CEO of Altron Groups.

After decades of building and reigning over a colossal empire, he had gracefully passed the torch to his grandson, Raven Grey. It seemed almost routine for a member of the Grey family to grace the cover of a business magazine on a regular basis.

Indeed, the pages of such publications were now adorned with Raven Grey's feats and the formidable grip he held over the nation's economy.

Alex saw how he turned his head towards his direction and gave the same smile to him. But he was not a fool to believe it, he could see the mischievousness dancing in those eyes.

Another man approached Conan, whispering something in his ear before stepping back a few paces. With a simple nod in response, Conan proceeded to the lounge area and settled into a seat opposite Alex. He gracefully reached for the tea pot, pouring himself a cup before taking a sip and remarking, "Wonderful. Mrs. Rosalie, isn't it?"

Mrs. Rosalie, momentarily lost in Conan's charisma, snapped back to reality upon hearing her name. "Pardon?" she responded, flustered.

"You brewed the tea exceptionally well, Mrs. Rosalie," Conan reiterated, his words causing her to blush with delight.

"Now, ladies, if you would be so kind as to excuse us," Conan continued, addressing the group, "I have a personal matter to discuss with Mr. Dexter."

Despite their disappointment, the ladies obediently dispersed, fully aware of Conan's influence and the power wielded by the Altron group. They melted away as if nothing else in the world could match the allure of conversing with such wealthy and attractive men.

"Seems like Mr. Dexter has developed quite a taste for 'Rosa's' tea. Should I request Mr. Benjamin to send you a dozen tea bags?" Conan teased, his tone light.

"Mr. Conan Grey, we both know that the tea tasted like shit. By the way, what is the wolf doing in a circus?" Alex retorted, his skepticism evident.

Conan's eyes sharpened as he regarded Alex, before responding, " The lion seems to be out of tricks to perform in circus, so the wolf decided to teach him personally"

"Hmm… never heard of a wolf performing in a circus. Seems like you're the odd one out," Alex countered.

"If there's an abundance of prey under one roof, why not?" Conan raised an eyebrow provocatively.

"Spare me your theatrics, Mr. Grey. Just tell me what you want to discuss," Alex demanded, cutting through the banter.

Alex couldn't fathom why Conan Grey would demand his personal presence for a matter of such importance. After all, their interactions had been fleeting and distant, hardly enough to warrant such familiarity. He found himself questioning how Conan even knew his name.

"Your daughter… I want her to be my granddaughter-in-law," Conan stated bluntly, his words piercing the air like a dagger.

The tea glass that Alex held shattered into pieces due to his tight grip and blood started to drip from the cuts. His eyes hardened hearing this yet Conan was unfazed as he merely glanced over the wound before meeting his eyes.

"I am not foolish enough to hand over my cub to a hunter, Mr. Grey," Alex retorted, his voice laced with venom as he rose from his seat to leave.

"A cub or… a HUNTRESS," Conan's voice trailed off, but Alex didn't respond to comment as he made his way to the exit.

In my mind I've just seen Leonardo DiCaprio playing the part of Alex here. :)

In the dim, desolate confines of an abandoned subway, a man stumbled, his grasp unsteady on a half-empty bottle of alcohol. His once-groomed appearance now betrayed by overgrown stubble and disheveled hair, his bloodshot eyes bore the weight of endless tears.

As he faltered, a jagged stone sliced across his forehead, drawing a trickle of blood. Yet, the physical pain paled in comparison to the anguish gripping his heart.

Slumping against the cold, graffiti-stained walls, he gazed vacantly at the oppressive sky, tears silently tracing down his cheeks. With a heavy heart, he shut his eyes, only for fresh waves of despair to wrench anguished sobs from his chest. In a fit of anguish, he hurled the bottle, shattering it against the unforgiving concrete, mirroring the shattered pieces of his soul.

A piercing scream shattered the silence, jolting him from his desolation. Instinctively, he stumbled toward the source, his vision blurred by the enveloping darkness. Guided by the cries, he pressed forward, his steps faltering but resolute.

Each scream pierced the air like a dagger, leading him to a decrepit shed at the end of the subway. With a door already splintered, he entered, his gaze sweeping over the rusty remnants of forgotten machinery and discarded debris.

A sickening squelch beneath his shoe drew his attention downward, revealing a pool of crimson staining the ground. His breath hitched, dread coursing through his veins as he followed the macabre trail, his heart pounding in his ears.

And then, he beheld the horror before him, a scene so grotesque it froze him in terror.

He retreated back with eyes full of fear before asking, "Wh... wh... what are you doing?".

"Please… help me."
