Dead Man's card

A complete nutjob

A complete nutjob

Apr 09, 2024

Hardin, summoned by his best friend, whistled along to the tune of "Unholy" as he cruised in his flashy Ford Mustang. With one hand on the wheel and the other ruffling his hair, he basked in the sensation of the fresh air against his face, taking in a deep breath.

Curious about what had riled up his grumpy friend so early in the morning, he couldn't help but grin.

"On my way to ruin someone's life," he mused, his grin widening as he accelerated towards the Altron Group.

Pulling up in front of the towering building, Hardin stepped out of his car and took a moment to adjust his hair in the side mirror before striding purposefully towards the elevator designated for the CEO.

He drew the attention of every female staff member once he entered the lobby. People knew he was the only friend of his CEO and a contrast version of him. Their CEO was someone who bore a serious face from morning to evening and didn't even spare a glance at any women.

On the other hand, Mr. Spencer wouldn't even spare the flying female mosquito. His smiles flirty and words dipped in honey, not to mention his godly looks. If their CEO is as cold as ice then his friend is as hot as fire.

Hardin winked playfully at the receptionist, his charm evident as he sauntered through the lobby. His attention was soon caught by a familiar face emerging from an elevator, and his eyes lit up with delight.

"Oh, my dear Jasy!" He called out, his voice carrying through the bustling lobby. However, Ian intercepted him before he could approach further.

"Mr. Spencer please behave, there are people around us," Ian said to him while adjusting his glass.

"What does it have to do with me? Can't I give my loved one a simple hug? I am missing you day and night, especially at night when it feels cold without you. You are as big as…" before he could utter anymore bullshit, Ian stopped him,

"Our CEO is waiting for you" he took five steps away from him before giving him a polite bow and scurried away from the place.

He didn't miss that few female staff giving him tight lipped smiles. He wondered how did Mr. Grey even be friends with him. If he could describe him in one word, he could say he is a nutjob, a complete one in that.

Hardin chuckled seeing him running away. He took an elevator to the top floor. He entered the office and closed the door.

Whoosh…

Hardin caught the file before it hit his handsome face.

"Find all the information about the person in that file"

"Wow wow… Can you be less rude? Who would marry me if my precious face got damaged"

"Get lost if you don't have anything useful to say"

Hardin chuckled and took a seat across from Raven. "Why the rush?" he inquired, flipping through the file with the expectation of another prey to be toyed with.

To his surprise, he found a woman's photo attached to the file. Hardin blinked, momentarily disbelieving his eyes. He rubbed them as if to confirm what he was seeing, but the photo remained unchanged.

"Raven, are you looking for a nanny for Aiden? But she's too stunning to be a nanny. Why not appoint her as my secretary? I'm tired of my current one," Hardin suggested with a hopeful gleam in his eyes, turning to Raven.

Raven's attention shifted from his own file to his eccentric friend. "She calls me Hunter," he replied cryptically.

Hardin's smiley eyes narrowed, "Consider it done"

Hardin blew the smoke into the air as he watched the passing cars on the endless road. It has been 9 hours he and his people racked their brain and the computer to find any suspicious details on the women that his friend asked him to, but nothing points to her relation with the underground.

As CEO of Red Queen, Hardin took immense pride in the company he had built, a testament to his determination and entrepreneurial spirit. Despite hailing from the wealthy Spencer family, he had forged his own path, refusing to rely on his parents' wealth and connections.

His company was renowned for its integrity in handling legal data, a facade that concealed its covert involvement with "Viper," the notorious gang of Worcester city. Behind closed doors, Red Queen served as the clandestine hub for managing the gang's data and operations, a fact known only to a select few within its inner circle.

Hardin's frustration simmered beneath the surface as he absorbed the findings of his team's investigation. The woman's background appeared pristine, devoid of any hint of impropriety or wrongdoing. Such immaculate records only served to heighten his suspicions, casting a shadow of doubt over her seemingly flawless facade.

With a heavy sigh, Hardin flicked his cigarette to the ground, grinding it beneath his shoe before turning to retreat to his car. However, his departure was abruptly interrupted by a collision with a fleeing figure.

"Thief! Thief! Catch him!" a girl was chasing the man who had just bumped into him.

"Ah.. what is this world going to do without me?" sighing again, Hardin rolled up his sleeves and chased the man.

Amazing how all Raven had to say is one line and Hardin knew exactly what to do.

In the dim, desolate confines of an abandoned subway, a man stumbled, his grasp unsteady on a half-empty bottle of alcohol. His once-groomed appearance now betrayed by overgrown stubble and disheveled hair, his bloodshot eyes bore the weight of endless tears.

As he faltered, a jagged stone sliced across his forehead, drawing a trickle of blood. Yet, the physical pain paled in comparison to the anguish gripping his heart.

Slumping against the cold, graffiti-stained walls, he gazed vacantly at the oppressive sky, tears silently tracing down his cheeks. With a heavy heart, he shut his eyes, only for fresh waves of despair to wrench anguished sobs from his chest. In a fit of anguish, he hurled the bottle, shattering it against the unforgiving concrete, mirroring the shattered pieces of his soul.

A piercing scream shattered the silence, jolting him from his desolation. Instinctively, he stumbled toward the source, his vision blurred by the enveloping darkness. Guided by the cries, he pressed forward, his steps faltering but resolute.

Each scream pierced the air like a dagger, leading him to a decrepit shed at the end of the subway. With a door already splintered, he entered, his gaze sweeping over the rusty remnants of forgotten machinery and discarded debris.

A sickening squelch beneath his shoe drew his attention downward, revealing a pool of crimson staining the ground. His breath hitched, dread coursing through his veins as he followed the macabre trail, his heart pounding in his ears.

And then, he beheld the horror before him, a scene so grotesque it froze him in terror.

He retreated back with eyes full of fear before asking, "Wh... wh... what are you doing?".

"Please… help me."
