Elizabeth suddenly found herself surrounded by the staff. Every time she tried on clothes, the staff asked her if she liked what she was wearing, and if she said she did, they wrote it down. She was surprised to be asked what she liked and what she didn't like, because usually when she came to these places she only tried on the clothes and her mother made the selection. She usually found out what she had bought when she got home.
After a while, exhausted from putting on and taking off clothes, she tried on the last dress given to her by the staff. This time, it was a special dress. The staff had strongly recommended this elegant dress to her. They had told her several times that it would look beautiful on her. She didn't need such dress, the everyday clothes she had just tried on were more than enough for her. It was already bothering her that Katherine was paying, she didn't want to burden her anymore.
Elizabeth looked at herself in the cabin mirror after putting on the dress. The black dress fitted her body perfectly. The slit in the dress left the upper part of her leg exposed along with her neck and shoulders. No matter how uncomfortable she was, she felt a weird tingling inside her chest. Her parents would be furious if they saw this dress even on a hanger. The great pleasure of breaking a rule made her smile involuntarily.
"You look dazzling, miss."
Elizabeth was embarrassed when she realised she had been watching herself in the mirror for a long time, "Ah- t- thanks!"
Pull yourself together, Beth! There's no way you're going out in that dress! I'll just say I don't like it. As soon as she came out of the cabin, the woman waiting for her, who she thought was the manager, smiled with glint in her eyes, "I was sure this dress would suit you very well, but even I am surprised how good it is!"
"Uh... T- thanks. But I don’t-"
"Miss Williams is inside, why don’t you show your dress to her? Please come in."
“B- b- but I-“
She found herself in the waiting room again. She was uneasy since she had taken off her disguise. She quickly scanned the area, fortunately there was no one except Katherine. The girl was on the phone with her back facing to them.
"Miss Williams, what do you think of this dress?"
As soon as Katherine heard the manager’s voice, she turned to them. She froze as she saw Elizabeth. She slowly moved the phone away from her ear. It was hard to read her expression, she looked surprised, but it was as if there was something else underneath her expression that Elizabeth couldn't make sense of. She eyed her from head to foot in silence. This went on for so long that even the staff noticed and started giggling. Elizabeth felt every part of her body burn as Katherine's gaze moved on her. What was going on? Of course, she didn't like the dress, right? She thought that Elizabeth was like 'that', right?
"I-I don't think I need this. I'll ta- take it off quickly." Elizabeth quickly turned and walked to the cabin. She entered the cabin and shut the door. When the staff came up behind her and asked if she needed any help, she said she could do it herself. Why did she wear that dress? Now, Katherine will misunderstand her...
She tried to reach for the zip to take the dress off, but she couldn't. Why had she told the staff she could do it herself?! There was no way she could do it herself! She couldn't reach the stupid zip!
"...everyone is talking about it!" Elizabeth jumped when she heard a familiar female voice.
"Are you sure it's real?"
"Of course I'm sure! In fact, they're trying to keep it a secret, they haven't even gone to the police. But one of their maids told my maid. They've been looking for their daughter everywhere like crazy… They haven't found her since yesterday."
"Since yesterday?!"
"Yeah! You know how much they bore their daughter, Margeret's got her in chains. Everyone says their daughter ran off with a man because of the family pressure. Who knows, maybe she got pregnant!"
“Hahaha… Like mother like daughter...”
"Oh, how I wish I could see Margaret's face... How furious she must have been when her daughter, whom she kept in a jewelled box, ran away from her hands."
"Maybe that big ego of her can go down a bit, don't you think?"
"I don't think so!"
