After moments of explaining, telling Sandy and Daisy about her acceptance letter, as well as showing them the talking paper bird letters. About her enchanted whistle, and that she can call upon oasels, owls and weasels and how she has obtained magic powers of her own, as well as showing them proof that she has magic abilities — she took out a piece of parchment paper, from inside her dresser. She tried concentrating on the piece of parchment, by staring at it as well as waving her other hand; while holding onto the parchment.
After a few moments with no result, she refused to give up. She focused and concentrated on the parchment a little harder — finally the parchment turned it into a living lily flower. With this, Lila gave proof for the girls to see and handed them the magic flower to them to feel and inspect. She also thought that this would be a much safer way to show the twins than to show them how she can open the drawer’s dresser, as she didn’t want the drawers to start flying through the room and beheading them.
Their eyes gleamed, and wowed at the flower magic trick. Both applauded her for her magic trick and asked her to do more tricks. Lila chuckled tiredly and told them that she wishes that she could do more. She tells them that she can do some other tricks, but is still trying to get the hang of controlling her magic abilities — all she can do for now is turn things like the parchment into living flowers. (That and a few other tricks, like turning furniture into frogs and throwing them across the room, as well as other things.) Both of them looked disappointed as they wanted to see more magic tricks, but saw how tired Lila looked after turning the parchment into a lily flower, so they understood her situation and decided to keep quiet and let her rest a bit and gather her strength.
“So… what do you think of all this???”
“What do we think?” Both questioned in unison. “We think it’s brilliant and fantastic that you're going to a magical school, Lilac! And couldn’t be any happier to see you achieve your dreams of becoming a real and true witch!”
Lila was fighting back the lump in her throat as she hadn’t expected both of her sisters to be this supportive and accepting. She guessed that maybe she relied mostly on Olga’s negativity, and making it cloud her mind and thought that everybody, including her sisters wouldn’t be supportive of her life and choices and was afraid that they would discard her being different and being everything that Olga had said about her.
Lila wanted to be sure, if her sisters were really okay about her decision, and if they were okay for her to go to school, and so she asked them, “R-really??? Are you two sure that you're okay with me going to Oasel???” Lila asked them sheepishly, both twins looked at her seriously, both chuckling by her obvious question, “Of course we’re sure! It’s honestly not our business to keep you from doing and achieving something that will make you happy — because Lilac, we want you to be happy. And you deserve to be happy!” Both Sandy and Daisy expressed happily in unison. Lila teared up with their honesty, and with their love and support. She wondered how did she ever get this lucky, to have two wonderful sisters like them.
Once Lila finally got both of her twin sisters support and acceptance. She thought it best to continue with their little talk. “There’s also one last thing that I must tell you girls about. And it is something really, really important.” Lila said, with a nervous look yet with dead seriousness in voice. Sandy and Daisy gulped, in nervousness as they were a bit anxious of what they were about to hear.
As Lila told them about a plan to finally leave this place, to leave the house and the neighborhood of Sorrels of Isham — whenever things get worse — or when they have the chance and opportunity to escape. She tells them that she already packed for them, from whatever clothes they had in their dresser, but only left a few clothes out for them to change into. She also tells them to pack whatever that they need and to leave someplace far or anywhere better than here.
Sandy and Daisy both looked a bit thrilled about the plan, they also felt a bit concerned about the plan as well, as they looked at each other. “B-but Lilac… Where would we live if we did run away?” Asked Sandy, as she and Daisy sounded scared and unsure about the plan. “Y-yeah, we’ll have nowhere to live…” Daisy then added while fidgeting her fingers and caressing on her doll Juju’s red yarn hair.
Lila saw them worrying about the matter, and she understood the situation. They are children, afterall — and something like this was too extreme, let alone insane even. But Lila knew that she didn’t want without her sisters — or worse — she didn’t want to leave her two sisters in the hands of that vile cruel woman. Sandy and Daisy were her sisters, blood related or not — they were her family, she had raised them herself and had watched them grow from babies to the happy and brave little girls that they are now. And she sure as hell didn’t want somebody like Olga, to tarnish and torture them, just like she had done to her for so many years.
Lila lightly patted their heads, and smiled back at them, telling them in a reassuring voice. “We’ll live anywhere as long as it is better than here… Don’t worry girls, I’ll make sure that we’ll find a place… a place we’ll call home, to be a real family. A place far away from Olga.” Lila uttered softly, smiling brightly at her sisters — the twins smiled at what she said — and without taking a moment to decide, the two happily hastily nodded. Lila hugged her two sisters tightly, as she was happy that they were on board with her plan, and to live somewhere faraway together.
“What do you mean, a place far away from Olga?”
Lila and the three were startled, as they released from their hug embrace, only to see Olga standing outside the doorway to their room. Lila and the three forgot to lock and close the door as it laid open.
“I asked my boss if I could leave work early, because my two little angels were terribly ill… But here I am, seeing the both of them, looking springier than ever.” Olga hissed, while eyeing both Sandy and Daisy — both couldn’t look her in the eye, as her gaze felt like poison. Olga then quickly glared at Lila, and started, “Did you put them up to this? To lie to me? To keep them home so that you can fill their ears and minds with your nonsense and lies? You fucking witch-” Olga snarled at Lila, but was completely cut off from the sound a fluttering and flapping.
Olga, Lila and the twins jerked their heads to the direction of the flapping sound, coming from the window — where the four were surprised by the sight of Ozzie, the Oasel — who landed on the bedroom’s window sill. “Fuck!!!” Was what Lila thought. Forgetting everything about using her whistle to call upon an oasel, which arrived in the worsts of time imaginable. Olga saw everything, the obvious being Ozzie — as for the rest, well… there wasn’t anywhere for Lila to hide anything now, now that Olga saw everything that was before her — one being a comic book, that she had torn up and thought she had disposed of ages ago. Followed by a few particular letters with the same wax stamp insignia embedded on the envelopes which she knew looked familiar since she had destroyed one of them before.
Seeing the oasel, comic book, and the acceptance letter together; it was perfectly clear for Olga. And seeing Lila with the twins together, speculating or theorizing what was displayed before her. She immediately thought and said, “My God… no… not the twins. You damned their minds in witchcraft!” She spat, and without saying anything after — Olga quickly stepped out of the room and then locked the door with Lila and the twins still inside. Telling the three of them inside the room, who were now in a panic. “Now… this is what is going to happen. I’m going to my room real quick, to get something… Once I come back, I’ll teach you three, a valuable lesson — I need to discipline the little ones more first, just to drive out the evil that the devil has inflicted on them. What that monster….. that vile fucking witch has inflicted on you two innocent girls.”
Sandy and Daisy trembled, shaking uncontrollably with fear, as they were so terrified and were confused about what Olga was going to retrieve from her bedroom. The twins kept crying uncontrollably; heavy tears fell from their cheeks and then hugged each other tightly, afraid of what Olga might do to them, since Olga never punished them before in their life. Only threaten them to have them fear her.
And since Olga saw both Sandy and Daisy with Lila, with Ozzie, as well as both envelopes and comic book. She was convinced that the three were conspiring with each other and were plotting something in private — something witchcraft related and immediately lost it.
Lila acted quickly as she ran towards her dresser, pushing the rusty wooden furniture towards the locked door, and barricading it. Then quickly ran to her bed, pulling out the old briefcase that she hid from underneath and immediately opened it. Once it was open, Lila tells the twins hastily to grab and pack their leftover clothes in her briefcase so that they could immediately make their escape, before Olga comes back.
Without hesitating, and wasting time. The twins immediately ran towards their dresser and took out the remaining clothes they had in their dresser, immediately stuffing it in the old briefcase. Lila then ran towards the dresser to retrieve a pen and a piece of parchment, quickly writing to Deborah:
“Deborah!!! Please come quickly, me and my sisters are in grave danger!!! I don’t know how much time we have, so please come and send help!!!”
“WHERE THE BLOODY HELL ARE MY BULLETS!” Olga shrieked loudly, yelling from the other room. It was a good thing Lila took out the bullets from the rifle, replacing them with carrots and threw the real ones away. With one of her used envelopes from Deborah, she stuffs her written letter inside, and writes down on the back of the envelope as Urgent and Immediate Help as well as Emergency. And quickly stuffed the letter inside Ozzie’s pouch — Lila anxiously telling the oasel, “Quickly give the letter to Deborah… Quickly, my winged friend!!! Before we run out of time!!!” With Lila’s urgent command, the oasel immediately flew out the window, and flew as fast as it could throughout the rain — until finally vanishing from view.
After hearing a glass breaking and a few thuds from the outside of their bedroom. They immediately heard her running downstairs, then hearing her saying something about getting something — and will put it to good use and use. After that, they heard a loud door slam. And everything grew quiet.
By then, Lila knew that they only have so little time left. So she tells the girls to hurry and stay close to her.
Lila rushes to the window, lifting and pushing the briefcase out the window. Sandy and Daisy asked Lila what she planned to do now to escape, now that they’re locked up. Lila quickly looks at the two, looking nervous, but tries to mask away her worried emotions to not make the girls more scared of the situation. She places her hands on their shoulder, telling them that everything will be alright, and that they have to trust her, and that they will get out of here and will be finally free.
Lila then pulled out a long rope that was inside the bottom drawer of her old dresser that was barricading the locked bedroom door. A rope she found in the attic amongst the seasonal decorations. She tied the rope on the steam radiator that was under the window sill of their bedroom, and tied the other end on the bed frame.
As she made sure the rope was tightly secured, Lila turned towards the girls; telling them that she will tie the rope around their waist, but have to hold on to it very tightly, so that they don’t fall. Once they reach the bottom, they untie the rope off their waist, so that Lila can do the same with the other. Then once she sees that the two were safely down, then she’ll go last.
Both girls were feeling skeptical about the plan, as they were afraid they might fall if they somehow lost their grip. But were mostly afraid of what’s to come, as they felt they were nearing the ultimate punishment awaiting for them from Olga. And so they both didn’t want to waste any more valuable time. They both agreed to Lila’s risky plan on escaping the house from out the upstairs bedroom window.
Sandy decided to go first, although was rather hesitant on the idea and was both terrified. But as soon as Lila tied the rope around her waist, she knew that there wasn’t anything else to think about, than to escape. And worried about everything else afterwards. But before Either one of them attempted to escape out the window — they suddenly heard the bedroom door unlock. Which made both Lila, Sandy and Daisy’s heart drop as well as making their faces grow pale.
The rusty wooden dresser seemed to be heavy enough, as Olga slammed the door wide open — making the dresser fall a few inches away from the door. Leaving the girls alarmed and appalled as well as shocked on how she managed to kick open the door with such a powerful kick?
Olga didn’t return with a rifle, which Lila was relieved at the thought that nobody was going to be shot. But she did bring something with her that she found at the last minute — something that she gripped tightly in her hand, which seemed and looked like a curved long thick branch — It might have been cut from a tree or a bush from outside the front or backyard.
