It happened so fast that all we saw was the light and then I looked at him and I saw his jaw hanging from a little strip of flesh on his face. He tried to yell but he couldn't form words so we just heard shrieks of pain like never before and then I looked at the rest of his body his chest was gone revealing a singular lung trying its best to breath and behind that his still barely beating heart. He was bleeding from everywhere his intestines were falling out of his stomach and collecting dirt with his liver still flying in the air from the explosion. We all stood silent as the light drained from his eyes and the shrieks somehow continued for a few more seconds until he finally laid lifeless in the dirt. We were under such heavy fire that there was no opening for the medics to remove his body so the smell filled the air. After a few more attacks it slowed leaving everyone to fall back. Finally we drove back to the scene of the horrific death of a fellow soldier. The death replayed 3,001 times in my head. I couldn't escape the the last few moments of pain he must've of gone through. Finally the truck stopped and all the soldiers stepped out. Blood stained all over us. I could feel the pain and horror that radiated off of them, soon the next truck arrived with Energy and the others who were covered in dirt it was crazy how different things went just by getting on a different truck.
Moments later people begin heading to the showers. Hours later it was my turn to get in the shower I scrubbed the blood and dirt off of me with my blank expression never leaving me. 20 minutes later I finally built up the courage to get out the shower and dress myself. I decided to skip dinner. After awhile I fell asleep trying to keep the horrific scene away. I fought off the thought of that dying soldier with good thoughts of Energy like the time we went to Wisney planet or when we went stargazing right before the all of this. Going stargazing with them was the best moment of my life.
I woke up back on top of Energy's car as they punched me in my arm for drifting off. I was overcome with joy thinking that the war was all a dream and then right as my mom was supposed to text we actually "kissed'' it was perfect it wasn't awkward or too short we both loved it. We made it official and drove to my place to lighten the blow of going to war. My moms started picking out baby names already which was very embarrassing so we drove to Energy's house to tell their parents. When I knocked on the door the soldier opened it and jumped at me I fell to the ground and watched as Energy slowly turned into the soldier I had watched die and then I jolted out of bed. Some people looked at me since I had just jumped out of bed. I sunk back into my bed trying not to let the fatigue overcome me.
I finally woke up energized more then these past couple of days. So when it was time to run the course I finished quickly in first place and then decided to go workout before heading to the showers. I headed back to my bed at the camp that was empty because everyone else decided to go eat. I watched movies on my phone until I noticed someone walking over to me "Hey I heard about what happened yesterday I'm sorry that you had to see that." I sat up to get a better look. Energy was talking to me. All of a sudden all of my excitement came back from earlier today "It's fine I'm ok thanks for checking on me though." "Well I know that was a lie you haven't eaten since the morning before the fight, you don't have to lie to me" "Well good thing I'm not lying but I'm going to head to bed now" I said d trying to end this conversation, they realized what was happening and walked away.
I woke up at 4:00 in the morning and I got out of bed everyone was asleep so I put on some clothes and snuck out I started walking toward a cliff that was close by to camp, it had a beautiful waterfall on the other side. I was able to watch the sunrise over the waterfall It was breathtaking. After 2 hours I walked back to camp and snuck back in to see Energy getting out of bed. I walked to my locker to change back into my pajamas to see if I could get some more rest before the roll call but I couldn't. I could only think about Energy so I decided to finally tell them that I love them. I waited for them to get out of the shower and just said it. "Hey" I said walking over to them, but they pushed past me with a blank expression. "Hey.." "Are you alright." I asked stopping in front of them They just looked at me teared eyed "I'm your bestfriend Geia! and you shut me out, you gave me the silent treatment and pushed ne away when you were the one to say it first. Just leave me alone" "But" I said as I was starting to tear up "But nothing! Geia every time something scary happens you run away...from me you leave me." at that moment I felt defeated they were right I hurt them and there was no taking it back so I walked away.
Suddenly I was blinded by tears as I ran to the waterfall when I got there it didn't help so I screamed the water was loud enough to cover my screams. I fell to the ground as I continued to cry. I couldn't stop in this moment id felt worse than I've ever felt before I couldn't stop crying my heart was breaking and it was all my fault. I sat against a rock I slowly controlled my breathing. 45 minutes past, then an hour, 2 hours and I was still stuck in one spot tired and hurt a few more minutes later I was blinded by a flashlight "I found her" Arachne yelled as she started pulling me up off the ground helping me catch my balance. "Gods you scared us what the heck happened we were worried about you." Six said franticly as I got out of my daze I said "I just came here to think I needed fresh air." everyone looked at each other then at Energy who was behind the rest of our friends "Lets head back to camp and get you cleaned up" said Arachne everyone walked back to the camp in silence once we got there I grabbed some clothes and headed into the showers.
