I woke up with Energy snuggled into my chest, my heart warmed at the scene, I finally felt at peace. I started playing in their hair and the moment they woke up They looked at me then gave me a kiss and went back to sleep I drifted back off with her. Eventually we woke up to yelling it was time for us to get back into our routine me and Energy rushed out of the room and got in line the drills began. Everyone finished soon after, Energy and I came in first. After the drills some people headed in shower others went to the gym or meditated. Once everyone was cleaned we went to the food area where the Commander and the Sargent gave a speech "Everyone listen up Commander Solar wants to say a few words." Everyone quickly turned their attention to him. He cleared his throat. "Thank you everyone I know we've been working your asses off and literally sending yourselves into warzones and I'm thankful for you all, the brave soldiers that sit here today and the ones who died with honor may they rest in paradise, the point is I'm proud that we've made it this far and that I had you guys standing with me you'll be very great heroes...legends even, so again thank you now without further a due, feast!" Everyone cheered with their drinks in hand. An hour later everyone headed to their beds. I laid down then Energy followed soon after, as soon as my head hit the pillow I was out for the night.
I woke up to silence even with everything happening recently I've never been happier. Then the siren sounded forcing everyone out their slumber. After dressing we hit the trucks. 20 plus people made their way to the parked trucks including Energy and I as well as the commander. We drove to the battlefield. When we got there we realized the Earthlings have gotten better at strategizing. Some were parachuting some already had their guns aimed at us. Others had only grenades. We barely made it to the trenches without getting shot or exploded, even once we got in the trenches we weren't safe there were Earthlings with hacksaws except there weren't as many as last time so we dealt with most of them pretty quickly, then the rest of the troops arrived. We started to get into a nice pace until the third volley of grenades were thrown. Luckily all of them landed at the soldier's feet so we all reacted quickly and threw or kicked them back. We hadn't noticed the humans running up from behind. They had slashed the commander and three others right before they threw a grenade at their feet. With the last of their strength they threw themselves on top of them to lessen the blow for others. Sergeant Axel, Energy, and I ran towards the commander but we were too late all four of their bodies exploded flying into the air causing blood to rain across our side of the battlefield everyone was covered from head to toe in brain matter, organs and blood from our soldiers. It had gotten into my mouth as I stood frozen at the sight. I tried to scrub the taste out of my mouth but my hands had their blood all over them. What was left of their bodies fell down like a hail.
You could hear it but you could never imagine the sight of each body hitting the ground with a blood-curdling 'CRUNCH' the impact was so violent that skull fragments flew and hit a few people. Energy and I stopped but the Sargent kept running. Once the commander's body hit the ground, Sargent Axel yelled "COMMANDER." The grenades that were successfully returned exploded, The earthlings were much smaller their bodies were still in the air and landed around the trenches. The combination of raw intestines, bodily fluids, missing eyes, broken bones, and missing parts made my stomach churn. I began looking around to see if anyone was alive, the commander was in pieces, and a few other soldiers on our side. Some had broken arms, legs, or both. I quickly realized the Earthlings were barley hanging on themselves some ran out of rounds others started to make a run for it. I squinted my eyes as I continued to look, from afar I could see a man holding a large flag. They'd left, ran to their ships leaving us there in this living nightmare. Everyone stood there not sure of what to do, still in such a terrifying mess I heard footsteps approach, I quickly drew my weapon. "At ease soldier." said Sargent Axel lowering my weapon. "It's ok let's head back everyone, they've surrendered...this fight is done." A few soldiers collected stuff from the falling to give to their families. Everyone got themselves cleaned up. For the rest of the day no one uttered a word. There was no joy...just content, is this what winning really looks like?
