"Kai, give me the crystal," she ordered, her tone changing to a warning tone.

Kai hesitated.

"Why?"

"You don't need to know why to hand me it," she said, holding out a pink hand.

"Why don't I need to know? What are you hiding from me?" he shot back.

"Just give me the crystal, please!" she pleaded.

"Why do you even want it so badly?" he protested.

"Well why are you even asking?" she returned, both of their voices raised now.

"Why are YOU so desperate to keep it a secret?" 

"If I tell you, you'll never forgive me!" she admitted.

A moment of silence fell.

Wammawink clasped her hands to her mouth.

Kai stared at her, shaken that he was likely right.

"I-" Wammawink began.

Nothing followed.

"What will I never forgive you for?" Kai said, his voice quieter and calmer now.

She was too scared to speak.

"I-"

"She said she would help me find my herd," she finally spat out.

"Who?" Kai said. He didn't know what a herd was either, but the other question seemed more important.

She gulped.

"Masc."

"She told me," she continued, "that if I did what she said, she would reunite me with my herd. I'm sorry."

"What did she want you to do?" Kai said. His tone would make you think he was going to kill her there and then.

"She... wanted me to make sure you didn't do anything she didn't want," she said reluctantly.

Kai had no idea what to do about this.

About everything.

He clenched his fists.

There was something up with that llama all along. 

But he never expected her to be working for Masc.

He'd never met Masc, but KNEW she wasn't good news.

It didn't matter what her motives were, Wammawink was working for Masc.

"Kai, your feet!" Wammawink shouted, advancing slightly.

"Yeah, like I'd fall for that one," he replied.

"Kai no, I'm being serious here!" she said, her eyes and voice full of fear.

He glanced down, on full guard.

The grass around his feet was scorched black, fire holding the tips of the blades.

And spreading.
