Merial POV
“You said you would teach me but we have just been walking along this dirt path for hours.” I said pouting after about 2 hours of walking.
While looking away from him I noticed by clothes and shoes, they felt more like plastic fibres than clothes. Definitely not what I had on before, but then again. I should have just had my pyjamas on, but it was easy to assume that they just put clothes on me while I was asleep. At least they had some decency after kidnapping me from my own world just as a component to get this guy in front of me into existence.
“I can start the lessons now if you wish, but it will only be the basics.” Khaos said, his expressions and speech seemed to be softening over time. Though I couldn’t tell if that was because he was being more friendly to me or that he was just getting used to the language.
“No point waiting, its a whole new world. I can’t exactly take my time, i’ll probably die before learning it all.” I said.
“No here you won’t die of old age or any virus, but I do see your point.” Khaos interjected. “You remember when you were touching that catalyst before that you saw all the mana and aether around you right?”
“I saw a bunch of red, blue, green, brown and purple particles around me, sure.” I confirmed.
“Ah you could see the individual types? That's good, those red, blue, green, and brown represent the different elemental attributes of mana.”
“So what? Red is fire, blue is water, green is wind, brown is earth.” I already knew, those markings I saw in my dreams made it pretty clear what they were. “But what about the purple ones?”
“Those are aether particles, but yes the other elements are correct. Mana is a bit more straightforward to explain so i’ll explain that before aether but first of all, what do you know about the mechanics of the world?” Khaos answered then explained.
“Well I don't know much about this world, and it's clearly far different then my own.” i replied.
“Not true, the only actual difference between our worlds is that mana and aether do not exist in yours.” Khaos rebuked.
“How do you know my world didn’t have those?” i asked.
“Void worlds never do, that's their defining characteristic. Otherwise they wouldn’t be void worlds and we could travel to them and from them, also calling them worlds is a bit inaccurate. It's universe by universe basis.” Khaos answered.
“Wait, that means you can travel to other universes here?” i questioned
“Yes, even ones with strange rules. But all of them have to have aether, and by extension mana.” He answered. “Anyway we are getting side tracked. What do you know about the rules of your world?” Khaos asked
Physics and maths were my best subjects, but this kind of question is like trying to describe every star in the sky. Even if you have the knowledge of them all, where do you even start?
“Well everything is made of atoms, which form and make bonds together and create the physical world under the 4 fundamental forces, but boyond that there are the fundamental forces which…” I proceeded to go on this rant for what felt like far too long, even explaining about things like thermodynamics, which Khaos asked the occasional question, seeming not for lack of knowledge but to see what my knowledge was.
Khaos seemed pleased with this. “That's good, very good even. The laws of your world are basically all the same here, which means you can build off your knowledge of that to learn the new rules here. With that we can start from the beginning.”
Khaos paused for a second then continued. “First as I have told you, the 2 main forces are mana and aether. Mana is the substance of the world. The particles themselves are just energy, similar to light though it has mass so it doesn’t move at those intense speeds and when i say everything is made of mana, i mean everything. It then sometimes collapses into ‘matter’ or something just like the matter you know. There are a few differences, first of which are that you are not made of mana. So while using too much mana can destabilise the very mana that makes my body, you cannot suffer from this.”
He said a lot of words but in reality didn’t say more than just mana is a new kind of energy, though he said it in a way that won’t create mistakes later. It's a confusing way to speak but I understood it, and it was kinda nice. Like speaking to someone who was actually smart for once. Sorry Leon.
“So what, I can use as much mana as I want without consequence. Doesn’t that mean I am super powerful?” I asked.
“You have the potential to be powerful.” he corrected. “Many people from void worlds fail to live up to that potential. This has plenty of other benefits and downsides. You won’t get any illness or die from old age. The pathogens that would make you sick rely on mana to be able to infect, same with things like ‘leeches’ which will only suck mana. Then when it comes to old age, your body only ages because things go wrong. Your body mutates slowly and accumulates damage from other things eventually making you weaker and killing you.”
This man suddenly really likes to rant huh, well it's not like i’m going to stop him. I love learning, though school makes me feel like I don't sometimes. But that's fine
