AYAMI
“You will always be my belov__- sis___,” the girl's unfamiliar voice echoed, the last part muffled
“I can't hear you” i screamed desperate to hear her words, a piercing pain in my ear
“Ayami”, she mouthed the words but it wasn’t her voice. This time the voice felt familiar
“Ayami” it was my brother, Reo’s voice
No not yet I want to hear what she is saying.
“AYAMI WAKE UP” my brother shook me vigorously as I woke up, gasping for air
“That dream again?” he asked me with a look of concern in his face as he passed me a glass of water.
I took a sip of the water and gave him a nod after i settled down to reality.
“Are you that stressed for Uni, before you even get to attend your first class which... you will be late for the first day itself.” he said
I looked at him confused before he shoved the alarm into my face.
“Oh fuck”
“No cursing under my roof" said my dad who randomly spawned into the doorway
My brother chuckled as he took a seat on my bed with a book on his hand
“Why didn’t you wake me up?”
“And when did dad come back” I complained as I stormed off to the bathroom to get ready for the first day of class.
Our world consists of people with magical powers and people that don’t have magical powers but that difference didn’t divide us as there were also creatures of the dark Malachite shaders, commonly called as malachites, that feeds on the human souls and the only way to protect everything is by sticking together.
Some like me were born with certain powers but the ones that doesn’t have powers can learn magic to an extent at certain Universities or Uni’s as we call them, that are governed by the magical council
Our Uni, Ebony university of magical studies, is one of the them that is directly under the management of magic council,
The magic council have an irreplaceable importance in every tiny moment happening in our world, in a way that even before the government passes a law it needs to be approved magic council. One wrong move from the council could put everyone in danger
I turned on the shower. C.O.L.D
“At least be grateful that I woke you up” my brother grumbled
“You need to go to work anyway so it’s your responsibility to wake your younger sister.” I countered
He works for Alaric cooperation, one of the largest conglomerates in Celestia
“Yeah, right you ungrateful brat” He scoffed
I could hear laughter outside
I froze not because of the cold shower but due to the sound of laughter that almost became foreign to me.
I quickly turned off the shower threw myself into the bathrobe and opened the door.
I rubbed my eyes in disbelief as I saw a woman in her late 40’s dressed in elegance. Her green eyes looking into mine. I got my green eyes from her.
“It’s not a dream” she chuckled
My mom was addicted to alcohol for the past few years. She used to come in at late night and in the mornings, she was hungover and didn’t leave bed, when we came back home, she would be out again to get drunk.
It was hard to see her like that, she wasn’t abusive, but the way she changed from a happy person who loved her children and husband, to not even care if we were dead or alive was definitely not the best memory.
One day she just left and when we asked dad, he said not to ask about her for now. We never bothered to ask him again but held the heavy heart within ourselves.
Now that I saw her sober and smiling right in front of me after so long it felt like a dream from the past.
“Oh my god” I ran into her arms tears blinding me as I almost tripped over the chair on my way.
“Aww, my baby did you miss me?” Her voice tried its best to hide the trembles...
“I did. A lot” I whimpered
“I am sorry, Ayami…I am sorry to the both of you for being such a bad mother” she said as she gently stroked my hair
I looked up from her shoulder “No, no, it’s alright. You are here now and that’s the best we could have right now”
“She is right. You are here that’s all that matters” my brother reassured
She wiped my eyes and snot of my nose as she chuckled
“You won't get drunk and leave us again, will you?” i asked as fear began to grip me.
“Of course, no” she smiled
“You promise?”
“I promise”
I felt as if it was easier for me to breathe now than how it felt ten minutes ago.
My dad cleared his throat behind us “Hate to break the moment but you are running late darlin”
“Breakfast is ready. Eat it before you go” mom called out before leaving my room
***
“Calm down. I will drop you there, We are visiting marin's family today" My brother said as he watched me gobble down the breakfast
Marin was Reo’s
long-time girlfriend. He popped the question last Sunday.
“OH” I smirked “bet you are nervous aren’t you Reo?” He rolled his eyes
“Yes, you are. I see right through you” I squealed and the whole table burst into laughter
“It feels nice, feels like I am back home” My dad smiled, tears building up in his eyes
“Welcome home” my mother said as she hugged his arm
He kissed her forehead
“Yeh, Yeh. We get it. We get it” I said to remind them we were still there.
They both blushed at my comment and laughed it off
